New Yarn Swap Package 3/2023

Hello, dear all,

I hope you had/are having a lovely summer and enjoyed everything that came your way. But now it’s getting cooler again, so you can bring out the yarn again. But oh no, your stash has shrunk over the summer ... no problem, here you can stock up! And even for free. You can replace unloved yarns from your stash with new treasures from the swap package.

The new yarn swap package is going on its travels again!
Anyone who is expecting it knows the excitement. And anyone who has it at home knows the tingly yarn bath and the treasures you can discover. Real yarn you can touch simply makes your own imagination bubble over. Everyone who has taken part before knows this feeling.

Now for the organization - you already know how it works. In this thread, everyone who wants to take part may sign up. This time I’m again sending a 5 kg package via DHL for 6.99 euros.

The swap ring works like this:

I am the initiator of the swap ring and pack a package with yarn. I ask all participants beforehand by email for their names, addresses, preferences, and dislikes regarding the yarns and compile a participant list from that. Anyone who wants to can then take the preferences and dislikes into account when packing the package. Anyone who doesn’t specify anything here will just be surprised.

I put the list I created into my freshly packed yarn package. I send it at my own expense via DHL to No. 2 on the list.

Participant No. 2 on the list receives the package and picks out what she likes from the package. As a replacement for the yarns taken out, she puts yarns of equal value into the package. The list goes back into the
package. Participant No. 2 then sends the package at her own expense via DHL to participant No. 3 on the list. The list goes back into the package, and so on and so forth. At the end, the package ends up back with me because I am the
last address on the list. I then destroy the list with the data.

Once the swap package has started, I will create a separate thread. Here we will always write where the package currently is. It would be nice if every participant posted a photo of the treasures they scored
. Then everyone can share in the excitement a little.

Summary of the rules:

1. The DHL package is sent at the sender’s expense.
2. Every ball of yarn must have a label. Multiple balls of yarn of the same type need only one label.
4. The yarns taken out are always replaced with qualities of equal value.
5. Only yarn should be swapped.

If you would like to take part, please sign up here in this thread. Please do not write any personal data here! I will contact you.

Then I wish all of us lots of joy and anticipation with the new swap package.

Best regards from Ina

Yes, dear Ina, I’d love to participate again. Thank you so much for your effort and for organizing this!

However, it would be great if I could receive my package no earlier than September 25. We’ll be away for a few days before then.

Is that possible?

Best regards
Monika

Oh, that’s great, but I’m going to sit this one out—I have to work through a few things here first before I know what I can pass on.

Dear Schnuckelina, I’ll also be following the swap package’s journey from afar this time. I still have so much to process from the last package😚. Have fun, everyone.

Dear Ina, it’s great that a new package is starting up again.

I won’t be joining this time. I still have so much yarn to work through, and I haven’t made any impulse buys since last time.

I’m focusing on whittling down my stash for now.

Right now, I have some yarn from the last package on my needles

It’s no problem if some of you don’t want to participate this time. You don’t have to mention it here specifically either. If you want to join, just let me know.

Maria and Monika are already on board, anyway.
@Monika, of course that’s fine. Let’s wait and see when the package gets sent out. We’ll decide where to place you in the rotation based on that.

Best regards, Ina

I’d like to join the swap this time, too.
I’ve been watching you all with curiosity. I have one more question. Can I, for example, swap sock yarn for cotton yarn? Or should that also be cotton yarn?
Or only brand-name yarns for brand-name yarns? Thick for thin?
I’d rather ask before I make a mistake.

@Marita,
Ina already wrote that 😉😉
1. The DHL package is sent at the sender’s expense.
2. Each ball of yarn must have a label. Multiple balls of the same type only need one label.
4. The yarns taken out are always replaced with yarns of equivalent quality.
5. Only yarn should be swapped.

Thanks, Ina, for organizing this. I’ll get back to you once I’ve had time to “sort through” my stash—I need to go through my inventory first to see what I can part with 😉
Is there a deadline—by when do I need to let you know?

Dear Ina,
It’s great that you’re willing to do all the work again—thank you.

I’d also like to take part in the second or final third. By then, I’ll have sorted through everything.

Best regards

Dear Ina,

I’d love to join the swap for the first time.
I’ve been following your recent “Wool Journeys” with interest.

I’d be thrilled if you’d welcome me, a newcomer, to the group.
Best regards, Katharina

Hello everyone,

I’m especially happy that a few newcomers are brave enough to join in too. Just always watching and getting annoyed about all the lovely things the others have “scored” doesn’t make you happy either. This time, you’re there live!

The swap package will now make stops at:

Maria,
Andrea,
Ulrike,
Marita,
Katharina
... and further down the list come Marlies and Monika.

@Susanne - there’s no deadline. Once we have enough participants, we’ll get started. I think you still have a few days to think it over.

@Marita - yes, you can also swap sock yarn for cotton yarn. It just needs to be of equal value - so not expensive cashmere yarn for 1-euro acrylic yarn. That wouldn’t be fair to the others who come further down the list.

Kind regards, Ina

Good morning....
Good thing there’s the newsletter 😄 otherwise I would have missed the swap package...
Last time I “only” watched. This time I’d love to join in again.
Thanks, Ina, for sending it “on its way” again 😘

Hello everyone,
It would be great if there were still a spot for one more newcomer.
I’d love to experience that moment of surprise when opening the yarn package, too :)
Many thanks in advance for your effort, and with joyful anticipation

Hello everyone,

yes, dear Steffi, I agree with you. It’s great that we have the newsletter. That filled up our group pretty quickly after all. The following people are now participating:

Maria (maria-zielassny)
Andrea (Bastelfan)
Ulrike (Bogenraus)
Katharina (Katharinas-Handarbeiten)
Marita (Leoniera)
Martina (matap)
Steffi (Woll-zauberei-Steffi)
Sannii (sanniischm)
Robine (robine-vanderdoes)
Marlies (die-vom-deich)
Monika (mowi19)

Of course, newcomers are welcome to join us, too. We were all newcomers at one time. We’re a friendly group, and the swap package is fun for all of us—not just those who are swapping themselves.

There are now 11 people, 12 including me. That should be enough. If anyone else really wants to join, we’ll include them as well.

Otherwise, I’ll message all of you on Friday or Saturday. The message will include all the details. Until then, think about what kind of yarn you’d like to find in the package and what you really don’t like.

I wish everyone a sunny day.

Best regards—Ina

Wow, I think it’s great that the group filled up so quickly. Awesome—I can’t wait to see what treasures await us.

I hope all the newcomers here have just as much fun unpacking their packages as the “old hands” do.

Hello everyone,
our group is full! This time, the participants are:

Maria (maria-zielassny)
Andrea (Bastelfan)
Ulrike (Bogenraus)
Katharina (Katharinas-Handarbeiten)
Marita (Leoniera)
Martina (matap)
Steffi (Woll-zauberei-Steffi)
Sannii (sanniischm)
Robine (robine-vanderdoes)
Susanne (Grinseline63)
Marlies (dievomdeich)
Monika (mowi19)
Ina (Schnuckelina)

I reserve the right to change the order based on your preferences. After all, it’s in everyone’s best interest to avoid having three women with the same yarn preferences listed one after another—otherwise, two of them would end up empty-handed.

Everyone has just received a PM from me… now I’m waiting for your replies.

Best regards, Ina

I missed this round 🙈
But I’m actually okay with that.

Could someone maybe message me about the next round? 🤔 Just in case I miss it again. Maybe I’ll be a little less scatterbrained and check in on time 😅

Have fun swapping and discovering new yarns!

Hi everyone,

Thank you very much for your replies; we’re still missing one lady. I’m sure her reply will come in today.
I’m going to pack the yarn swap package now. Keep your fingers crossed that the box and the weight of the yarn work out together.

Have a nice rest of your Sunday.

@Lethyna, you probably get the CP newsletter by email. The current forum threads are always listed at the bottom. That’s basically your wake-up call for the next time you want to join in.

I’m already looking forward to the pictures. This is a great initiative. Unfortunately, I’ve only participated once so far because I just don’t have the time to turn all that wonderful yarn into projects.
But there’s definitely time to “share in the joy.”

@polymaus - Yes, the list is already full this time. All you can do is watch from the sidelines.

@everyone
I just packed the package. I spread everything out nicely on my rug and started stuffing it in. When I weighed it, I realized it was way too heavy. So I had to unpack half of it again.

5 kg is already a lot less than the 7.5 kg from last time. But our experience with Hermes has generally been rather negative. That’s why Hermes is out of the question.

The next larger package size, for up to 10 kg, costs 10.49 euros. I have enough yarn to fill the box. Everyone would have twice as many options. So here’s my question:

Would you prefer 5 kg for 6.99 euros or up to 10 kg for 10.49 euros in shipping?

Once I have your feedback, I’ll print out the shipping label and take it to the post office. Then it can be on its way to Maria as early as tomorrow.

Best regards, Ina

Hi Ina

As a newcomer, I’d like to sign up, and I also think the 10 kg package is perfectly fine, as long as the mail carrier can still carry it :)))

Best regards to this lovely group and have a great start to the week.

Oh.... 10 kg.... that’s going to be a “full-on wool bath” 🤣🤣🤣
Since I “skipped” the last swap package, I’ll be getting double the amount....
Well, I’d be fine with the big package, too. I’ll just have to skip a bar or two of chocolate the next time I go shopping 😁

I’m happy to have your approval. I also think, if we’re going to do this, let’s do it right. And for a “wool bath,” you really need a bit more wool to immerse yourself in.

But since there are 13 of us, I’ll wait patiently for a few more responses to my question. We’ll see how it turns out in the end.

Well, that’s quite a hefty price, but definitely worth the fun. :)

Ina, it would be easier for everyone if you didn’t pack exactly 10 kg—better to pack 500 to 1,000 g less. Because if the box needs to be swapped out, weighing it all out is really tricky. With so many participants, we can definitely expect that one box won’t hold up under the weight. And the packing tape adds extra weight, too—we should factor that in.

Love, Monika

It’s a good thing it probably won’t be so hot anymore by the time the package arrives. Then the delivery person won’t have to work so hard 😉

Have you considered that with twice the amount of yarn, the decision is twice as hard? 😊🤗

We sure needed a lot of packing tape for the last package...

Wow, 10 kg is quite a lot. I agree with the others. You can never have enough yarn. It’s worth the price. Although I’d be fine with 5 kg, too—but the majority decides.
As Monika already said, it’s better to pack a little less so the package holds up.
I’m really looking forward to it.

Have a great week, everyone!

Alright, so that’s been decided by a majority vote. If anyone wants to drop out because of the higher shipping cost, that’s no problem either. We can remove them from the list at any time. They just need to send me a PM.

I’ll pack a little less so the yarn still has room to breathe and you have some wiggle room when packing. I just went through my closets again and picked out the last few items. You’re in luck, because a few more nice skeins of yarn have made their way into the package.

I’ll get the package to the post office tomorrow. If you come across a large, sturdy box in the next few days, hold onto it for now. I hope my box holds up for a while.

I wish everyone a lovely evening.

Best regards, Ina

And I’m looking forward to seeing just how big a 10-kg package of yarn actually is….

Hi Schnuckelina, I’m not sure if the vacuum bag made it to you last time. Feel free to use it again—that way, the box won’t need to be quite as big for the same weight🐑.
Have fun, everyone—and you newbies, be ready for a surprise.
