That’s right, coffee is a great tip. This happened to me once—I went on vacation, unplugged the fridge, and something was still inside. Don’t ask what it smelled like after three weeks. Putting a cup of coffee in there worked wonders.

Thanks for the get-well wishes! I’m slowly getting better again, but sitting is really awful :-( And knitting while lying down or walking doesn’t work very well.

Well, I like it bright and bold. Yellow, orange, red. Not that I could actually wear those colors, but that’s a whole other topic.
When it comes to materials, I’m not picky—I use whatever I can get my hands on. What’s important to me is that it feels good. And I prefer thinner yarns to thicker ones.

I’m just playing around with a few crochet stitches right now, but I’m not quite sure yet what this is even supposed to be. For some reason, crocheting is easier than knitting when I have lumbago :-)

A decorative pillow looks great on any sofa. And a hand-knitted decorative pillow looks even better.
This pillow cover is knitted using two colors of cotton yarn (140 m per 50 g). The interwoven pattern is created using slipped stitches - no magic! The pattern is written out row by row and also shown on a knitting chart.

A knitting project that you should plan quite a bit of time for, but also a gift that certainly not everyone will receive, is this scarf. It is knitted double-sided, which means the colors on the front and back are exactly reversed. But it also means that you basically have to knit every stitch twice, once for the front and once for the back. That takes time.

I think I’d go about it the same way with kids as with adults and just ask for their measurements. Maybe ask the parents? I’d simply ask for measurements like arm length, chest circumference, or the length from the waist to the shoulders, and then maybe add a few centimeters because kids are still growing.
The neckline is also important for children’s sweaters because kids have larger heads relative to adults. So either make the neckline a little wider or choose a style that can be buttoned or closed in some other way.

The most wonderful thing that’s happened to me so far this month was when my father was discharged from the hospital on Monday. He’s over 90 and had a severe infection. It was treatable in itself, but unfortunately, the fever greatly exacerbated his pre-existing dementia. Sadly, that hasn’t improved even after the infection subsided.
Well, before that, there were many hospital visits with my mother, who’s also turning 90 soon. When she saw my father like that, she was in a state of utter panic, wondering how everything would work out once he came home. She just didn’t see a way out anymore. Now we’ve arranged for in-home care—they come to the house and help with things she can’t manage on her own.
The best part was the look on my father’s face when he came home. Happy :-) And my mother’s relief when it dawned on her that they wouldn’t have to go to a nursing home after all and that they can manage for a while longer. How long, no one knows, but right now they’re both happy. I think that when life is drawing to a close, that’s what matters.

It’s just dawning on me—this is almost like Alcoholics Anonymous.

Oh, right :-) I don’t know the exact number of skeins.
I have a separate room—it’s sort of a study—with a clothes drying rack and a table, though the table is currently unusable because it’s covered in yarn. Then there’s a shelf that’s packed to the brim with yarn. And since the shelf is full, there’s also a large box that’s packed to the brim as well. Quite a dilemma, I’d say, because where am I supposed to put the new yarn? In the meantime, there are also a few bags stacked up in that room. Take a guess at what’s inside :-)
The most important thing for me is that the area around the drying rack stays clear—I need that, after all.
Oh, and there’s also a cabinet in the living room. And there’s a cabinet in the entryway, too.
