Dear users, dear authors,
what’s the best thing that’s happened to you today / this month / this year?
Who’s experienced a small—or even a big—miracle?
Let me know.
The best thing this month so far was my trip to Munich and meeting up with my friends.
Among them was a friend from Utah who flew in just for a fan meetup for my favorite TV series. I got to meet him and another dear friend there, and it was simply wonderful.
The best experience so far this year was getting to see two concerts by the Brandos. That included a brief chat with the singer, who took an incredible amount of time for his fans after the shows.
Since our fourth “miracle” was born back in December, this year’s miracle is definitely our new house :)
It’s soooo wonderful to live in our own home—it’s exactly how I’ve always dreamed and hoped it would be!
Something really wonderful happened to me yesterday, too: a teacher at the preschool approached me with great enthusiasm to talk about my “soul warmer.” She was so enthusiastic and full of praise, and she expressed it in such wonderful and kind words—aww!
And this afternoon, another teacher told me how beautiful my soul warmer was (I was wearing it again this morning—it was too warm in the afternoon) and that she’d love to take a closer look at it next time (so I’ll probably be wearing it again tomorrow morning *laughs*).
Other than that, it’s a miracle to me every single day that I have four healthy children and a healthy, loving husband!
The most wonderful thing that’s happened to me so far this month was when my father was discharged from the hospital on Monday. He’s over 90 and had a severe infection. It was treatable in itself, but unfortunately, the fever greatly exacerbated his pre-existing dementia. Sadly, that hasn’t improved even after the infection subsided.
Well, before that, there were many hospital visits with my mother, who’s also turning 90 soon. When she saw my father like that, she was in a state of utter panic, wondering how everything would work out once he came home. She just didn’t see a way out anymore. Now we’ve arranged for in-home care—they come to the house and help with things she can’t manage on her own.
The best part was the look on my father’s face when he came home. Happy :-) And my mother’s relief when it dawned on her that they wouldn’t have to go to a nursing home after all and that they can manage for a while longer. How long, no one knows, but right now they’re both happy. I think that when life is drawing to a close, that’s what matters.
For me, the greatest miracle is that my mother’s condition has improved significantly: After everything that happened last year, I didn’t think that was even possible anymore.
The most wonderful thing, of course, was and still is my second grandson :-).
The best thing today was that our new, gorgeous kitchen was installed in our new house, and it’s finally almost finished! The house is an absolute dream, the location is great, and the sunsets we see every evening are breathtaking! I’m sooo happy :)
Other than that, I’m happy every day when I’m surrounded by people who are close to my heart. Having a great family and awesome friends is truly the best thing in life! :)
After more than 17 years (I hadn’t expected this to happen in a long time), we finally got married—and it was completely spontaneous. We submitted all the paperwork on Monday and got married on Wednesday. Our son (now 10) was also over the moon that we’re finally (for him) a real family. None of us cared at all that there wasn’t a celebration on such short notice. His eyes were just shining, and that’s the most beautiful thing in life—“children’s eyes shining”—because they are our future!
For me, that was “my little miracle” for this year.
Dear Doreen, first of all, congratulations on your wedding and all the best for the future
My most wonderful experience this month was that my mother-in-law woke up from her coma.
Every day, I’m happy about my little family and that everyone is healthy so far.
I recently didn’t send my son, who has severe allergies, on the class trip.
After the last 3 class trips, I had already sworn to myself: nope! Not doing that again.
And as if by chance, on exactly this class trip (on an island), someone had an anaphylactic shock. The special hospital on this island (for allergies and atopic dermatitis) supposedly could NOT help, the boy was taken by speedboat to the mainland to the nearest hospital and then passed straight on to the Ruhr area to the final hospital. The mother was THEN finally called too and rushed to the island in a panic, because nobody had told her that the child was already back home in the hospital by then.
The boy survived, the mother probably had 8 moderate heart attacks, the teachers don’t think they did anything wrong, and I know that my decision was the right one :-)
Nothing really big has happened to me this year. But a friend told me that it’s the little things that count.
For me, the best moment this month was when it turned out that my son is taking school seriously and giving it his all. That wasn’t so clear at the beginning when he moved to secondary school.
And the best moment of the year was when we found out that my daughter has dyslexia, and I thought we’d have to make some big changes with school and everything. But no, none of that was necessary. My little one is a fighter who takes each day as it comes. And she has a teacher who accepts that and meets her right where she is on any given day, working with her exactly there.
I’m just so proud of my two little rascals at home.
Dear all, I’m deeply moved by everything you’ve shared. How wonderful!
Dear Doreen, congratulations on your “real” family, and how lovely that everyone is so happy for you!
Every day, several times a day, I’m grateful for everything I have and, above all, that I’m healthy and fit. I don’t take this for granted, because I’ve experienced things very differently before.
A special highlight this summer was our silver wedding anniversary, which we were able to celebrate at home in the garden. Everyone who is dear and important to us was there; some of them traveled 1,000 km.
I will always keep this experience in my heart with joy. It is so precious to have really good friends, and to have had them for almost a lifetime.
Today, 7 days before departure, we finally secured our flight to New York. From there, we’ll be going on a cruise to the Caribbean. The trip had been planned and booked for a long time. But a few weeks ago, Air Berlin went bankrupt and our flight was canceled.
Now we can at least look forward to it a little bit after all.
Congratulations on your wedding, dear Doreen, and all the best for the future with your “proper” family. I really hope my daughter can bring herself to take that step too!
I was so happy when our son announced that a new baby is on the way! Even if our third grandchild will be living very far away… Now, of course, we’re hoping everything goes well and that we’ll be able to welcome a new family member this spring!
The best thing is always when I get to spend time with my grandchildren in person. This week we visited “Blühender Barock” in Ludwigsburg (with the fairy-tale garden). Seeing the two older ones (ages 2 and 4) beaming is the best thing for me.
Our youngest has a significant speech delay and is finally making great progress. He’s a pretty stubborn kid and, until now, always thought, “Oh, you’re not really listening to me,” or “I’ll just say it this way.”^^
Suddenly, the following happened:
As always, we’re playing “Animals” - everyone picks one, and these animals play and talk to each other. So he says: “Mama, let’s play ‘Anim...’” and I say: “Sweetie - ‘Animals’...” He tries it, and everything’s fine up to the perfectly rolled “R” - but unfortunately, as always, that “E” at the end is missing.
After a few tries, I said: “Oh dear, where on earth did that silly ‘E’ go?”
His answer: “Mama, there’s a ghost, and it’s eating my letters away!”
I would have loved to laugh, but being as well-behaved as I am, I had him draw that ghost for me. If I ever see it, I’ll have to take Jonathan`s letters back from it.....
So the drawing shows a ghost, and there are a few letters in its belly.... Now we know the ghost is to blame, and every day we look for it to find the missing letters^^ and the fun in the exercises is back again.
