Happy birthday from me, too!

The shawl is already pretty far along, but the fringes are taking forever.

I finally took a picture, too. This is going to be a fringed shawl made from Christmas yarn. Some of you might notice that I’m using those awful bent needles, too :-) I just didn’t have any others available at the moment...

What will certainly be the case in the year 3000 is that people won’t have to work as much anymore. Technological progress and artificial intelligence will make many activities unnecessary. Whether that is a blessing or a curse, we’ll leave that open for now; the future will tell.
That opens up room for different thought experiments. In one model, people will fight over the work that still exists and possibly even wage wars. You could certainly imagine them doing that.
My other model looks like this: people will learn and become wiser, and therefore stop bashing each other’s heads in and use their wealth of time more sensibly. I’m optimistic and expect this model to happen.
When you have a lot of time, you can devote yourself to the beautiful things in life. For example, you can celebrate parties and dress up for them. For that, I suggest a knitted bracelet :-)

The year 3000 is so far away; by then, life will probably have changed even more than it has in the last 1,000 years. Technological progress is galloping ahead, and in the year 3000 people won’t know what to make of sayings like "Beam me up, Scotty," because they’ll have found other means of transportation. Maybe other planets will even be settled by then?
Whatever the case, you never really know what it looks like on such a distant planet. It certainly can’t hurt to take along an infinity scarf just in case—one you might even be able to pull up over your mouth and nose there. Who knows what the atmospheric conditions are like! You’ll just have to knit it beforehand, but you’ll surely be done by then. And if you change your mind after all and want nothing to do with that distant planet, you can still wear it at home on Earth.

I’d also like to add that I agree with what Creatowl says about the individual steps—I think that’s a very important point. Everything should be presented step by step, exactly in the order in which it’s actually done.

I think that once you’ve been knitting (or crocheting) for a while, you tend to forget a bit what those first stitches were like.
Fundamentally, I don’t believe it’s the authors’ job to teach people how to knit. You should already have some basic knowledge. That’s what textbooks and YouTube are for. I assume that people who get a pattern—from wherever—to knit a specific piece already know how to knit and purl. I don’t need to photograph those stitches every single time and include them in the pattern, not even in a beginner’s pattern.
Beginner’s patterns should, however, take into account that some stitches that go beyond the basics need to be explained in more detail. I also believe that beginners who’ve mastered the basic stitches can tackle anything beyond that. My first project back then was a sweater. What I do remember is that what really helped me was a diagram—just to get an idea of what the individual pieces were supposed to look like, because what does a novice know, right?
So, I expect more information in patterns for beginners than in a pattern that isn’t intended for beginners. And if a pattern isn’t suitable for beginners, that should be clearly stated—right in the product description, not just in the pattern itself.
Here’s a little tip for beginners: If you want to knit or crochet something that needs to fit exactly—where a few centimeters more or less really matters—and if a gauge is specified, it’s not just there for fun; it actually serves a purpose.

Somehow, they’re piling up again. And I was so diligent about using them up during the last leftover yarn campaign. But with almost every knitting project, there’s always a little bit left over that’s just too good to throw away.

I’m seeing a lot of wide stripes right now. They’re really easy to incorporate into your crafts.

Well, actually, my partner and family are to blame for the fact that my yarn stash has grown massively again over the holidays. So they really have no right to complain when I have a lot of yarn. That’s why the diet is very easy for me right now, and I’m happy to join in.

Go ahead and make fun :-) I wouldn’t want to know who all has a headache today. I do :-)
