Yarn diet until the end of January + UFO week from January 24–31 + Show off your January projects

Dear users, dear authors,
it’s January, the Christmas hustle and bustle is over, and we can get going again with the popular forum projects. I’m hoping for lively participation, lots of posts, and many finished projects.

Here we go:

The yarn diet starts today for everyone who wants to join in and ends on January 31.
Anyone who convincingly assures me on January 31, maybe even with before-and-after pictures (not required ), that he/she
- during January
- has not bought any yarn
and instead
- has used up lots of yarn,
will be crowned Yarn Empress or Yarn Emperor by me and will of course receive lots of recognition from all the readers here. I can imagine that partners/family, etc. will also be happy when the yarn stash shrinks.
Mod tip: Do the yarn diet now so you can buy lots of yarn again for Easter decorations afterward. :- )

UFO week:
To go with the yarn diet, there will be a UFO week from January 24–31, during which you should/may/can finish as many unfinished projects as possible.
Please also include before-and-after pictures or a written description of the UFOs.
I’m telling you this now so you can sort through your UFO stash before UFO week; after all, there are UFOs that will remain UFOs forever.
I hope you’ll be able to make time for it at the end of January.
If you don’t have time from January 24–31, you can work on them beforehand if needed.
If so, please write down the details here in the thread.
At the end of UFO week, I’ll crown users and authors with many finished UFOs as UFO Queen/UFO King.

All January projects, even independent of the UFOs and the yarn diet:
This thread is also for all January projects. Here you can show off your projects, progress, and finished results.

Have fun.

Mod tip:
If you put this thread on the forum watchlist, you can conveniently find it anytime without having to search for it.
Here is a screenshot with notes so you can put threads on the watchlist and then find them again. The image gets larger when you click on it.

February preview:
- Best of Leftovers project: Anyone who uses up lots of leftover yarn will receive an award.
--> runs all month
- Fun with bunnies, chicks, egg cozies, and flowers: project thread for Easter decorations + spring decorations
--> If you like, we’ll crown users and authors with the most colorful Easter decoration models as Easter Bunny/Easter Chick/Easter Flower of the Year. :- ) You can then choose whether you’d rather be a bunny, chick, or flower.
- UFO week: Feb. 21–28
- Tunisian crochet: I’ll open a thread about this at the beginning of February. Depending on how it goes, we can then let it run for a week or the whole month.

March preview
- Easter projects + spring decorations and clothing for spring and summer + March projects with a project thread for everyone
- UFO week: 16–26/27, longer because of Easter

April preview
- Yarn Emperor/Empress
- UFO week at the end of the month

Well, actually, my partner and family are to blame for the fact that my yarn stash has grown massively again over the holidays. So they really have no right to complain when I have a lot of yarn. That’s why the diet is very easy for me right now, and I’m happy to join in.

That’s a piece of cake for me. I’ve long since adapted to the trend here and always buy yarn, even though I don’t need any. I also went on a major shopping spree over Christmas and ordered lots of yarn cakes. They’re just being delivered now in January. If that doesn’t count because I already bought them in December, then the yarn diet is super easy for me and you can call me the Yarn Empress. I hope so....

Deliveries ordered and purchased in December do not affect your participation in the “wool diet.”

I’m currently knitting a shawl with a zigzag edge—it’s so much fun!

I’d love to join in. I’m also totally stocked up on yarn. My shipment arrived a week before Christmas, so it should last a month.

I have a couple of UFO projects. Whether I’ll actually finish them is another question. I’ll take some pictures and post them. I’m supposed to make mobiles—fish and squid, to be exact. But I haven’t gotten very far yet.... Though I just noticed that it doesn’t start until January 24 anyway. So I can keep working on the blanket for my little one until then. But that’s a real long-term project.

I’m definitely taking part in the yarn diet.
My New Year’s resolution is to use up the
yarn I already have first, because I don’t have any more room.

I’m curious to see how long I can stick to my resolution.

So—here’s hoping it goes well.

I’ll sign up, too. With my yarn stash, it should actually work out.

Right now, I’m knitting a sweater for my husband. It was supposed to be finished before Christmas, but somehow it didn’t work out.

Before I add another UFO to the list, I’m going to quickly get back to knitting it.

I’ll save my UFOs until January 21!

I’m in, too. I’m currently working through my blue stash and crocheting a baby blanket—and then we’ll see.

Here’s a picture of the blanket and the yarn.

My goodness, Josefa, you’re really hitting the ground running this year and making sure there’s never a dull moment here. :-)

I’d love to join in—I’ve already put myself on a yarn diet anyway. This time, I’ll have no trouble sticking with it until January 31. I’m not sure yet how much of my yarn mountains I’ll be able to work through.

I don’t have any UFOs at the moment, because I’m currently finishing up two projects. Let’s see how things look by the 21st. I’m sure there’ll be something new on the needles by then. I’ve actually got some new ideas for small projects using leftover yarn. So this works out pretty well.

Photos will follow when I’m ready.

Warm regards to everyone from Monika

@mowi19,
well, that was the plan, after the Christmas yarn room we’d continue with UFO Week and the yarn diet. :-)

@everyone,
it’s great that so many of you are joining in.
This is going to be wonderful.

Unfortunately, it’s too late—I’ve already bought yarn (again) this year :-)
But it’s no wonder, with sooo many beautiful things I see here. Just finishing the sweaters and socks I’ve started would mean staying away from Crazypatterns—and that’s just not an option!
Good luck sticking with it!

Hooray, my first project of the new year is finished.

It turned out to be a sweater for my husband. I started it before Christmas, and now it’s finally done.
Yarn used—from my stash—500g.

Let’s see what’s next.

I’ve done a radical purge and given away all the yarn I didn’t like and all my leftover yarn. It filled two big bags! Now I only have one box of cotton yarn and one bag of matching yarns left, which I can still use for a few planned projects. From now on, I’ll only buy yarn for specific projects! But first, I’ll keep reducing my stash...

Hi Ida,
thank you. It’s actually not that hard to knit—the patterns are simple.
Actually, it was supposed to be a scarf, but then I realized the yarn wasn’t quite as soft.
That’s when I got the idea for the sweater.

You really turned that into something great. Yeah, itchy wool around the neck—that’s something people often don’t like very much.

I’ve finally decided what I want to knit next. I found something among my UFOs.
Let’s see how far I get—it’s going to be a sweater with a slip-stitch pattern.
Here’s the picture.

Wow, you really are busy. After that great sweater, now the next piece. The color combination looks fantastic, by the way, and so does what you've already knitted. I also really love working with slipped stitches.

@ Christiana

What you've started there looks great too. Are those going to be gloves?

I'm still working on my two projects, but I don't have much time for them right now. Since I'm writing patterns for them and don't have the right light in the evenings for the detail photos, it's taking longer than usual. But it'll get there... ;-)

Have a lovely weekend, everyone!

Best, Monika

Hello Josefa,
Thank you very much for the challenge. If this challenge didn’t exist, the blanket would probably already be lying in the corner :-)

By now it’s getting boring. But I do want to become Yarn Empress. So I have to hang in there.

Thank you. Luckily, it was the last ball of fluffy yarn! I never know what to do with it because it’s so hard to work with... The little sheep was requested. I gave my mom a similar one, and her friend wanted one too....

Last night, I was looking for yarn colors for my new project with my little one. I didn’t find any (I still need to check the big stash in the attic), but I actually came across a blanket that’s missing only the border.
That’ll be my UFO project for the end of the month.
My daughter was thrilled—it’s one of the blankets I’d almost finished last summer but then put away because of the heat. Crocheting thick winter blankets in the summer isn’t exactly fun.

Yes, it’s true, fluffy yarn is tricky to work with, but the result is always worth it! You don’t notice small mistakes, and you can only make such cuddly little animals with fluffy yarn!
By the way, have you ever tried Estivo II by Lana Grossa? It’s fluffy, but you can still see the stitches just fine.

I’ve been really good so far and haven’t bought any new yarn, even though the temptation was huge. Because my favorite online shop was having a sale... *sniff* and *pat on the back*.

Now I’ve taken photos of my leftover yarn, which I’m going to use up now, at least some of it. I’ve already started. But I won’t reveal what it’ll be until it’s finished.

I’m going to make something beautiful out of these leftover bits of yarn (or at least parts of them):

I’ll use up my stash little by little, since that’ll surely take months. I’ll keep sticking to my “diet” — let’s see how long I can hold out. ;-)

Hello dear all,

I’m also diligently doing the yarn diet, although there have already been one or two
times when I could have been tempted. But then I reminded myself of my resolutions
and didn’t buy anything.

I’m still diligently working down my stash.

But it’s really hard not to buy anything, I have to say.

Best wishes, Heike

And tomorrow is my birthday. What am I going to do? Go to my favorite yarn shop and BUY MYSELF A GIFT!!! No way! I’ll just become the Anti-Empress :-)

You’ve made some beautiful and impressive pieces so far.
My compliments to all of you.

A quick mid-month update:
 - How are your January projects coming along? You can show them here in the thread at any time.
- How’s it going with the yarn? Are you staying strong despite tempting special offers?
- Have you already gathered up your UFOs?

Anyone who doesn’t want to follow through with becoming Yarn Emperor/Empress can still score points during UFO Week starting on the 24th. Next month we’ll be using up all the leftover yarn you have. Then you’ll have the chance to become the Best of Leftovers.
Tell me about it.

I wish you all a wonderful week with lots of sunshine in the sky and in your hearts too.

I’m being so strong and haven’t bought any yarn yet. Josefa: my husband loves your challenges, because I stick to them strictly, don’t buy anything, and am diligently working through my blue yarn :-)
The blanket is finished, and now I just need to make matching accessories. But there won’t be a photo until 31 January. Or when the blue yarn is gone.

My husband is already looking forward to the leftover-yarn challenge too :-) then it’ll be the cotton leftovers’ turn.

I wish you all a lovely day too, the sun is shining beautifully here

I’ve been sticking to it faithfully and keeping up my yarn diet. It’s actually kind of fun to see the yarn (scraps) dwindle. In the meantime, I’ve used up quite a bit and gathered even more yarn that I want to use.

Here’s a new photo of the yarn. However, I’ve already used up quite a bit from the last photo—that should really be in this one too.

I’ll post a photo of the finished items tomorrow. Things are definitely moving forward. And I’ll probably keep up the yarn diet in February as well.

So, I’m out and have to leave world domination to someone else ;0)

I still needed some gray yarn for my sweater, which is currently on the needles.
The very nice lady (privately) had such beautiful Noro yarns, and since my husband was standing right next to me with his wallet open, the sun was shining, and well... I gave in. I also picked up the gray merino wool by Debbie Bliss and got some cotton yarn for free on top of that. So, now it’s out in the open, and I’m not ashamed in the least ^^

I’m still holding strong. Well, I stocked up twice in December, and then I found a bit in the attic that’s just right for the cowl I’m currently making for my cousin.
But I’m already looking. I’m allowed to do that, after all, so that once the “diet” is over, I won’t have to think too long about what I really want.
But I’ve now started a completely different project so I can finally use up all the tiny leftover bits of yarn.
So working through my UFOs isn’t going to happen for me at all. I started three new ones last week....

Well, I guess I can forget about world domination too… I desperately need yarn next month for a baby blanket, since the baby is due in March! Plus, even though I have tons of cotton yarn, I unfortunately only have single skeins—mostly half-used ones—so I can’t make anything decent out of them (that is, a Japanese knot bag for the crochet projects I take with me)… Other than that, though, I really don’t want to buy anything and will dutifully keep working through my stash!

So, if you make the knot bag really colorful, with a new color every few rows....

Ruth, that would be one option, but I’m not sure if I like it—my color palette is pretty broad, and I’m more into tone-on-tone or two-tone combinations, but I’ll definitely think it over. I just need to buy the yarn for the baby blanket, since I don’t have anything suitable in my stash (soft and cozy, in a specific color, and easy to care for, too!). Can anyone maybe recommend something?

I’ve been on a yarn diet since December because I have so much that I could open my own yarn shop. And I have way too many UFOs, too. Right now, I’m working on a star blanket and a jacket. I’ve also donated a lot of yarn to organizations that crochet and knit for charitable causes. So I’m happy to join in to help reduce my stash.

So, here’s what I’ve made so far this month from my leftover yarn. It’s 9 small tissue packet holders, all made from leftovers, and a cowl (shoulder warmer) from one leftover ball of yarn.

I’m already making the tissue covers as gifts for Valentine’s Day and Easter. They’re finished in no time.

More leftovers will be used up too. Today I found these:

They’ll be next in the next few days.

I already have the next yarn for the next project here as well. I’ll post the photo tomorrow. Only now do I know for sure what it’s going to be.

I’ll get through February easily; I’ll be using up quite a bit then. That’s when the cotton sweater and the cotton jacket for summer will be next. I’ve had the yarn stored away for months. I’m using this now for spring cleaning in my cupboards, so there’ll be room for new yarn again.

I’m not aiming for world domination either. We’ll see what happens. In any case, it feels great to already have the yarn on hand for some pretty projects. :-)

Josefa, I also have to say your activities are great. I don’t know whether I’d otherwise keep going so bravely.

Yes, Marion, I’m enjoying it even more now. And I’d be happy to tell you why.

This morning I went through my yarn stash and took photos of most of it (not all of it). Josefa always needs before-and-after photos, after all. And I’d like to share the “before” photos here. Because I actually plan to stay strong and brave all the way through April. After all, I already have the yarn for all the projects I’m planning in the near future. Of course, that makes me really happy, and I’m going to get started on them right away.

This post will be a bit longer and includes some photos. I have to say, I’m just as excited right now as if I’d received a package of yarn as a gift. I hadn’t even realized just how much it actually is.

Here’s the yarn for my upcoming projects:

This will be one of my projects (I’m not revealing it just yet):

And these will be wrist warmers for my husband—he asked for them:

This will be a sweater for my granddaughter—maybe for her 2nd birthday in March

This will be a summer cardigan for my granddaughter:

I don’t know what this will be yet:

And I actually found another UFO—the only one. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to finish it this month, but I’ll definitely get to it in February.

Here it is… but I’m not revealing what it’s supposed to be just yet:

I’ll post some more photos of my stash in a moment. This is the one I’ll work on first.

To help you better understand why I really want to stick to my yarn diet for months now to make more space, here’s a look at my yarn stash. The yarn from the last post isn’t included here!

That thick, fluffy yarn was also one of those typical impulse buys, but to this day I still don’t know what it should become. In any case, it’s easier to knit with than to crochet. If I can’t think of anything else, it’ll probably become a blanket.

And I have absolutely no idea what to do with this—maybe one of you has an idea?

Do you want to open your own yarn shop? :-)
Progress is simply more impressive with photos.

Yes, Josefa, I asked myself the same thing this morning. I actually feel almost like I’m in a yarn store. And that’s a really nice feeling for a yarn junkie like me.

That’s why it’s now twice as much fun for me to turn some of it into pretty projects. I already had some of those in mind when I bought the yarn.

The projects will take some time, which is why I want to stick with it until April. As soon as the first piece is finished, I’ll post photos of it—I promise. ;-)

so mine doesn’t look like a shop, it looks like a yarn hoarder lives here...
That’s why no photos.
@Mowi: I made this out of sock yarn over the weekend: uhhh... how do you make a photo smaller????

Anja, I’m looking forward to your photo. :-) I’ve stashed away the sock yarn for next winter. I don’t think I’ll get around to it in the next few weeks. The spring projects are already waiting, and I’m really looking forward to them.

Inspired by Mowi’s photos and Anja’s words—she called herself a “yarn hoarder”—I took photos of all my UFOs and my entire yarn stash. And I realized I have an addiction problem. Here are the photos

Caro, don’t worry about it. You definitely share this addiction with everyone here. And it’s the most beautiful and harmless addiction in the world—one that’s also fun, so it’s actually healthy. :-)

I’m looking forward to your photos. Would you mind posting them again?

I’d bet there are quite a few people here who are in a similar situation—or who have even more. It’s great that you posted this here. Now your UFOs have come to light and get to be finished. I hope you have fun doing it.

Haha, UFO-cide-osis sounds good! By the way, my UFO is finished. Now I just have to weave in the ends and block it. Knowing me, that will be the most exhausting part.

So that’s it. If there really is someone out there with that many UFOs and that much yarn, I’ll be relieved.
Hi everyone, I’m Caro, and I’m also a yarn addict with a severe case of UFO-itis.
Wow. Photographing all that just now was pretty intense. But now we have an overview and a strong incentive.

Wow, it’s such a great feeling to have so much stash. You’re definitely not alone in this. You’re so well-equipped for just about any project.

Will you join me in working through some of it by April? Then we can motivate each other and maybe even reach the finish line together. In any case, my motivation has skyrocketed.

Yeah, it’s true—taking the photos really made me realize it, too. I still have two drawers full of leftover yarn, but it’s not worth mentioning. I’m starting on the wrist warmers for my husband tonight. He always gets cold hands at the computer and is already looking forward to benefiting a little from my knitting. ;-)

I’d love to join in. I really need to finish a few things myself. But I also love starting new projects. However, this year I’d like to declutter the apartment a bit, and if I can finish up some projects in the evenings, it puts me in a good mood. Plus, I’ll finally have all my needles back together again. ????
I could really use the motivation.

Let’s keep our spirits up. From now on, photos are only for finished projects.

We’re not all playing with a full deck either — we don’t have all our needles together! Hehe

With so many UFOs, all those knitting and crochet needles get expensive too... I bought myself 12 boxes and put little notes in them with the needle size.
But that only works for crochet. Knitting projects stay on the needles, after all.

I think I’d have to take a day off just to photograph all my UFOs.

But I’m really happy about my knitted sock heart. I used to have a pattern for it that I adapted back then because I hate a set of double-pointed needles and knit everything on two circular needles (hats, wrist warmers, etc.), but I couldn’t find it anymore, so I had to improvise — and it turned out even prettier than my original!

Yesterday I received the 2.3 kg of leftover yarn I won on eBay. It’s always so exciting to see what you get! In this case, it was great yarn, but unfortunately it smelled of nicotine. And I’m a non-smoker... I’ve shut it away with some coffee grounds now — that at least removes the smell from old books...

Anja, I also really don’t like knitting on a set of double-pointed needles, only when there’s no other way.
Funny enough, today I had the idea to knit the wrist warmers for my husband on 2 needles. Then they’ll be sewn together with Kitchener stitch. You only notice it if you know it’s there.

Your tip with the coffee grounds comes at just the right time for me. I got some books that also stink of “smoke.” And until now I didn’t know how to air them out. As a non-smoker, that’s really unpleasant.

How do you do it with the coffee? Do tell.

You can get rid of the smell really well with an open bowl filled with laundry detergent. Or with these Le.or Unstoppables beads.
I put them in a paper bread bag and packed it into a travel bag, and the bag smells super fresh :0)

You can put textiles and wool on the radiator overnight. Then the smoke smell will be gone.

Ahhhh, great idea with those scented things, I have them!

Coffee beans or grounds in a plastic container, put a book on top, seal the container airtight; after 2–3 days it smells like coffee, after 1 day in the open air it’s almost neutral. THROW THE COFFEE AWAY AFTERWARDS!

Well, with coffee, I know it absorbs odors. I’m not sure whether laundry detergent just masks it???
Here’s another great tip for laundry detergent: pour it into the toilet overnight—it removes urine deposits.

Funny how we went from wool to urine... lol

It’s really impressive to see everything that’s accumulated! I could easily double the collection, I guess… Tomorrow I’ll try to take pictures of the UFOs; I’d rather keep my yarn and thread stash under wraps for now, otherwise I’d give myself quite a shock… But now I really want to try to reduce it, it’s just that it doesn’t happen that quickly for me. Despite everything, I’m optimistic—I’ve seen soooo many great patterns on CP that absolutely have to go on my needles. And all of you keep motivating me over and over again—thank you, thank you!
And one more question, Josefa: Wasn’t there once talk of a Tunisian crochet class? That would also be a great idea for using up leftover yarn.

I hereby apply for membership in your club.

My yarn stash is about 75 kg - is that enough to be admitted? If I can find all my UFOs again, I’ll try to photograph them.

I really should go on a longer yarn diet - but it has definitely been working since mid-December.

Marion, you’re in. Great, we’re happy about every new addition!
Caro will be especially happy that you can keep up with her yarn-wise.
Of course, you’re also welcome to show us your treasures. ;-)

Yes, it’s been working for me too since December. By April, we’ll have knitted up a lot. I’m already looking forward to it. And maybe others will be happy about gifts, sweaters, and whatever else comes out of it.

This evening I’ve already almost finished knitting a wrist warmer for my husband - with 2 needles. But it almost looks as if it’s for me. It turned out a bit too small for him... grin. Oh well, I’ll just make some for both of us in a matching look and use up even more leftover yarn in the process.

Have a good night, everyone - see you tomorrow!

Best wishes from Monika

Hi there, let me show you my UFOs—there are actually 26 of them.
With some of them, though, I’ve started to wonder why I even started them in the first place. Some of them have been lying around somewhere for 4–5 years.
I’ve improved lately, though, and have hardly produced any new ones.
As I’ve noticed, I have almost exclusively knitting UFOs. Crocheting just goes faster, and the pieces are usually smaller.

I have to admit that I only have one UFO besides my current project. I need to finish these things—I want to be able to use or wear them, after all.
Of course, when I’m working on big projects, I sometimes crochet a little something in between, but I finish those first and then get back to the main project.

Hello Josefa     -     TUNISIAN CROCHET ?????

you asked us about a new handicraft technique that we’d like to try sometime. We decided on Tunisian crochet. We wanted to try it in February.

Quote - How about making that a project? So in one week we all try out a technique that we’ve had our eye on for ages, but
never get around to.- End quote

Wow, now I can see your pictures!
Christina, you’ve got quite an impressive collection of yarn and UFOs. Good prospects for becoming the UFO Queen.

Marion, your UFO collection is absolutely massive. Surely you can finish knitting one or two of them. You’ll see—once you’ve finished one, it’ll motivate you to keep going with the others. And then you and Christina can share the queen’s throne.

Thanks to Josefa, I’ve finished all my UFOs. Only one was still slumbering in a corner, but I’ll get to it by February at the latest.

I’m really enjoying tidying up now, thanks to you all.

I’m really not sure whether I’ll make it onto the queen’s throne.
Almost all of my UFOs take a little longer than a week. But that doesn’t matter—I’m already happy if the pile gets smaller.

Over the last few days, I’ve bought a few patterns here. So it’s hard for me to focus on the UFOs right now.

Marion, new patterns don’t go bad. ;-)
And besides, there are new UFO Queens every month.
All it takes is finishing just one UFO.
Then you can reward yourself right away with a new project that won’t turn into a UFO. :-)
By the way... finishing small UFOs gives you a quicker sense of accomplishment...

My tip: If a UFO that’s too big isn’t fun anymore, just rip it out and make something else out of it.

One more question: the yarn I’m knitting with is plied. You don’t always catch all the strands. Can I cut off what’s sticking out, or is it better not to? What do you all think?

13182 Posts Recent Started

Anja, I’d be careful about cutting the thread and would rather not do it. The thread gets thinner that way and could snap at some point.

When is an unfinished project a UFO? I have to put my knitted shawl on hold because the shawl that was requested so late as a gift for my best friend is now priority number one. But my knitting isn’t just sitting in the corner, and I do a few rounds on it now and then ;-)

A real UFO, on the other hand, is my crocheted basket. It’s still missing about 5 rounds or so, and nobody’s doing them. A great project for UFO Week. *cackle*

Anja, I prefer to knit these in back-and-forth rows and then sew them together with Kitchener stitch. It’s really quick and easy and very convenient. I tried using two circular needles once, but it’s too fiddly for me. This way is easier for me. ;-) By the way, they turned out great—I just need to weave in the ends.

By the way, I finished some tiny UFOs today. I finally wove in the ends inside the little tissue pouches and sewed the hearts on properly.

And I finished another bag today, too. Another new color combo and I used up some leftover yarn...

Here it is:

A pretty sweater finished, 680 m knitted for the shawl—an amazing achievement, I have to say.

“Diet yarn” ... that sounds really cool! Another new made-up word.
I’ll have to remember that one.

I’m taking my time with the big projects. Right now, I’m more in the mood for the smaller ones.

Here’s another little progress report with a picture. The fingerless gloves / wrist warmers for my husband and me are finished. And the next little project is already on the needles.

I’m working on the star blanket and a Maxi-Cosi sleeping bag at the same time. Progress is slow but steady. The blanket is just big enough to cover the baby. But I want to be able to wrap the baby up in it. At least I’m slowly getting through the second skein. This year, I also want to track my yarn usage and keep a record of how many skeins and meters each project requires.

Sounds great, Caro. Projects like these are perfect for TV nights or knitting get-togethers. Otherwise, they can drag on quite a bit.

The best motivation is always looking forward to using or wearing the finished piece.

I think it’s really great that things are moving forward here and that lots of yarn is being turned into wonderful projects. Doing it alone probably wouldn’t be any fun. This way, we cheer each other on, and we’re finally making room (for new yarn… grin) in our closets.

I’ve also thought about writing things down quite a few times. Now I’ve finally gotten started on it.
January wrap-up: 1 sweater for my husband—500g of yarn—1,500 m
; 1 sweater for me—480g of yarn—1,300 m.
Of course, made from yarn from the wool diet.

I wore mine today while it’s still cold.

Maybe instead of “dievomdeich,” I should call myself “the broken one”...
After my arm/shoulder got a little better, I’m now back to square one. One wrong move and all my progress so far is gone.

As things stand now, I’m banned from crafting until Easter.[Image removed][Image removed][Image removed]

I got some great yarn in December, and there are also a few PiA's lying around that I ordered. Not to mention all the great new patterns on offer.
Oh well, at least this way I’m sticking to a yarn diet... and maybe I’ll be able to join in again by Christmas.

The things you’ve shown are great. Keep it up.

Keep your chin up, things will surely get better again.

@anja
Seven shawls at the same time - you certainly won’t get bored. Will you show them to us when they’re finished?

By the way, I’m glad you like my sweater too.

Best, Marion

@Marlies,
Get well soon.
You’re now the Honorary Wool Empress and Honorary UFO Queen. I hope that’s a little consolation.

I’ve created a thread for you for tracking yarn and material usage.
It might be easier in the group / together.
Give it a try.
Yarn usage / material usage 2018 (No advertising)

The UFO Queen event starts on Wednesday. The event runs until the 31st.
So start gathering your UFOs so you can get going right away.

Dear Marlies, I hope you’ll be able to work with your beautiful yarn soon.
Just treat yourself to a little rest and enjoy your status as Honorary Yarn Empress and Honorary UFO Queen. I think that’s pretty special too. ;-)

Dear Josefa, isn’t this thread continuing here? Should we all continue in the new thread when it comes to using up yarn or going on a “yarn diet”???

Have a wonderful day, everyone!

Of course, we’ll continue here in this thread.
This thread is for all January projects, for the current “Wool Empress,” etc.
The yarn consumption thread for 2018 is now complete.

A heartfelt thank you to all of you, and a special thank you to Josefa.
Honorary Wool Empress and Honorary UFO Queen —that really is something special. It suits my own special “condition”... haha.

The whole thing was treated the wrong way for a long time (there are so many tablets and powders, injections, ointments...). After the third realignment , nothing worked anymore. The “specialist” probably didn’t know what to do either and sent me to physical therapy. That was the only good thing about the whole story.
The therapist said right away that it would be a long and painful road, but we’d get it sorted out again.

I’m really pulling myself together now and sticking to the ban, even though it’s very hard and I already spotted such great yarn again today... wink.

Until I can make something again, I’m enjoying your photos.

Best wishes, Marlies.

Oh Marlies,
it always makes me sad that there are still so many doctors who first push their entire arsenal of out-of-pocket services before letting the physical therapists step in. Then it’s usually already too late. Take care of yourself, do your exercises, and cut back on the crocheting.

I’m also sending Marlies my best wishes for a speedy recovery ♡
Hang in there—I know how hard it is to muster patience when you’re in pain!

Phew. Do you know that feeling when the skein just won’t run out? I still have two more skeins that also need to be worked into the blanket. But at least I’ve made some progress. Just checked—I’m already 7 rounds further along.

Yes, I had exactly the same experience with the star blanket, and without this challenge, the blanket would definitely have ended up in the corner. In the end, it’s pretty annoying. But the result speaks for itself. And I’m proud and happy that mine is finished

Caro, that looks great. It’s definitely motivating to see the progress and final results shared here. Without this challenge, my leftover yarn would probably still be sitting in the closet. I’ve already used up quite a bit, and the pile is getting smaller and smaller.

That said, I still find bits of yarn here and there that match, and I work those into my projects right away. Right now I’m working on colorful spring egg cups in all sorts of bright colors. And there are some funny ones in the mix, too. It’s already looking great. When they’re finished, I’ll show them to you.

Keep having fun!

Mowi, I’m really looking forward to that. I still have chicks, colorful eggs, and bunnies that I bring out every year for Easter. I’ll take a photo soon.
But yeah, that’s a huge motivator. I want to finish that blanket, too—I don’t want it to turn into a UFO halfway through. There’s another one I started while watching TV that’s still lying around.
But that’s going to change, step by step. I love it when something gets finished.

Tomorrow we start with the UFOs.
- Are you fit enough for the UFOs?
- Have you already gathered all your UFOs together?
- Do you have enough materials to finish them? That shouldn't be what holds you back.
- Do you have enough comfort snacks?
- Enough free time?
- Support from your loved ones?
-->-->--> Give it your all until the 31st if you want to earn the title then.

I wish the Honorary UFO Queen a week with as little pain as possible.

Oh wow. I’ll have to see right away what I’ll take with me. It needs to be as train-friendly as possible. I’ll be at Fobi from tomorrow through Sunday. But I’m sure I’ll find plenty. :)

I’m going to drag my crochet basket out into the light tomorrow to finish what’s in it. I know which drawer it’s hiding in...

The pictures aren’t loading for me anymore. I always check this on my phone, and I can’t see the latest pictures anymore.

Are there too many pictures here?

It always takes me quite a while for all the pictures to load, too. But they’ll show up eventually.

Yes, I haven’t been able to see any pictures in the last few posts either.
Maybe someone from the CP team has a tip for us or can check what’s causing it?

Please provide more details about the image error.

Have you already tried clearing your cache or using a different browser?

Maybe there are just too many pictures in here?

I don’t think it’s because of all the pictures. I’m actually just using my cell phone here and haven’t had any problems.

Everything loads fine for me, but it just takes a while. I clear my cache regularly—it gets deleted automatically when I close the browser. But I can live with it; it’s not like I’m turning away in horror because of it :-)
Personally, I notice it in threads with lots of pictures, like advertising threads, for example, and I think it has something to do with file sizes. Some users or even authors upload larger images than others, and for those, it takes longer for the images to appear. That’s just my guess....

okay, I tried it on my phone. At first, I also got the error message described in Arni’s screenshot above. Then I freed up a little internal storage space—my phone is chronically low on it, yet it still always saves everything to the device storage first instead of putting it straight onto the memory card.
And I gave the thread more time to load, and then _all_ the pictures were there. :- ) I could even click and drag them to enlarge them.

Maybe you could try that, too?

I’m on my computer here with a fast connection. Still, there haven’t been any pictures for a few posts now. I don’t think that’s necessarily the reason.

Maybe it would help if we started a new thread—Part 2—in February. After all, the yarn diet is supposed to continue, if I’m not mistaken, right?

Could you perhaps test it with a different browser?
For me, the pictures are slow to load at times, but they all load, both on my PC and on my phone as well.

There will be a new thread from February onward, yes.
The Yarn Diet will continue _only_ for those who, after the Yarn King/Yarn Queen title, still want to make it to the final round for world domination.
For everyone else, the Yarn Diet will end on the 31st with the Yarn King/Yarn Queen title for the time being, and then start up again for 4 weeks after Easter.

Josefa, I have an older PC and it only works with Chrome. But everything always runs perfectly on it. Unfortunately, in this thread I can only see the pictures now and then. They only all become visible again when I post a photo myself. Maybe that helps you figure it out?

I’m going to post my little UFOs now, which I’ll finish by the 31st. They haven’t been lying around for long—I only started them at the beginning of the month. But to be honest, I’d probably just leave them like this for now if it weren’t for the UFO motivation. ;-) Weaving in the ends is really a tedious job, and I don’t like it at all. And it still needs some embellishments too...

Here they are:

.... let’s see whether I can see all the pictures again now....

Josefa, I’ve been waiting a while now for everything to load.
I can see all the pictures up through January 16 and my latest one from today.
Everything else isn’t visible.
Also, I can see the pictures from the shop at the bottom of everyone’s posts.

Do you have someone nearby who can check your computer?
In my opinion, it sounds like the problem isn’t with CP, but with your computer.

@Everyone reading on a computer:
Are you also having trouble with the images?

If so, please specify which browser and operating system you’re using, when the error first occurred, and what is or isn’t being displayed. Screenshots are always a good idea.

I mostly use my iPhone, but I was just on my Asus laptop (also a bit older) running Windows 10, where I use Mozilla Firefox as my browser.
No problem with either! All images are displayed.

Thanks for the feedback, Nadeleule.

@Mowi
do you usually have a lot of tabs open at the same time?
An older PC’s RAM might be overwhelmed by that.
Could you try opening just the tab with this thread?

Josefa, it works wonderfully in all the other threads; I’m only having problems with this one. My computer is almost 7 years old, so it’s not thaaat old yet. ;-)
It might be the many tabs—I’ll keep an eye on that. Right now I only have this one open, and it still only goes up to January 16. However, I can see my new picture, which surprises me.

Of course, this thread is already quite long, so loading more posts is getting a little difficult. I won’t post again until I can show my finished projects, and I’ll do that in the new thread.

Josefa, I wish you and everyone else here a lovely weekend! :-)

The last picture is now the one from January 23—the star ... and after that, Arni’s screenshot of the forum. My last picture too, of course. If there aren’t any more pictures in between, then I guess that’s fine.

Yay! First UFO finished. Because of my training course, things are a bit more difficult for me until Sunday. I’m in class until 6 p.m. and have an hour-long commute. I can usually only use half of that time. But enough complaining. Since the second wing on my angel looks different, I have to redo it. But here’s my sleeping bag for the Aktion Schmetterlingskinder campaign, plus a keepsake for the parents.
