A good start to August + a lovely weekend

I wish you a pleasant weekend and a good start to August. Do you currently have an exciting craft project in progress?

I’ve knitted a jacket with thick yarn (6 mm needles).
Now I’m looking for toggle buttons that I like.<\/p>

Next, I might continue working on a scarf that I pick up now and then.<\/p>

Crafting isn’t really on my radar right now: My daughter’s family moved in with me a week ago, which means that until October, I have to practically cram all my belongings into one small room (my office)—total chaos is inevitable! And how on earth did all that stuff end up in my house (including the basement and attic!!!) over the years? And my new home—2.5 rooms in 40 square meters—can’t hold all that much either… The soup kitchen and thrift store are grateful recipients for many items, but just as much has to be thrown away, even if it hurts! Since it’s still summer break (school starts on August 9), my daily routine is pretty flexible, and I have to do without my knitting evenings in front of the TV—especially since my TV has already been set up in the attic, in Andi’s little retreat…

Tomorrow is our National Day, this time without fireworks. It still feels very strange to me that I don’t have to take care of the city’s festival food stand in the evening! We’ll probably spend the day continuing to tidy up…

I’m taking it easy today—yesterday I went to the fair with a friend. Not only did we manage to handle all the junk food we stuffed ourselves with, but we also rode the ghost train—and they actually let us get off again! 🤣 Now that’s what I call a successful day!

Today I started a new amigurumi; I do have bigger projects planned, but I’m not in the mood for them right now, so I’m sticking to small projects for the time being.

With the heat waves piling up and the fact that I’m getting older, I’ve decided to have an air conditioner installed. My landlord agrees—now I just need to find a contractor who’s available, which is definitely the bigger problem right now.

Not a handmade project, but something else.

For years, an acquaintance has been begging me to take part in the Advent calendar 🎄🎁 . It has to be homemade! Since she knows my handmade items... but knitting or crocheting the same thing 24 times... I just don't have the patience for that.

So I thought of something else and tried my hand at pouring candles. And it was supposed to be something special. So I collected lucky jam jars and got started.

With a little story about luck, everything will be packed nicely in a bag, and done 😃

I think they turned out well and I'm curious to see what's inside from the others.

But honestly, I won't do it again.

My crafting has been on hold a bit lately—it’s too hot for that, and unfortunately, the housework doesn’t take care of itself either ;-) :-) Laundry and such still need to be done :-( ;-)

It’s very pleasant here right now—perfect for doing chores, going for a walk, and working on crafts. But it’s supposed to get hotter again next week.

Oh, Maiti, I think the “lucky jars” are a lovely idea, but that also means you must have eaten a lot of “lucky jam.” I know those jars too. They have a nice shape, are a bit heavier, and the word “luck” is already printed on them. So they’re the perfect containers for homemade candles. Combined with the “lucky story,” they make a cute little gift for an Advent calendar. But I also understand that after 10 of them, the novelty wears off. It does get repetitive, after all, and 24 is still 24. Still, the joy will be great — and you’ll get 23 different little gifts.

Summer’s back here too. I just took a walk around the garden and decided what all I need to do. But not today — today is Sunday, a day of rest! And for me, rest always means time for handicrafts. Along with a cool rhubarb spritzer.

I happened to read that you’re thinking about getting an air conditioner for your apartment.

We’ve been living in our wonderful rental apartment for 31 years now, but as great as it is, it faces south. Summers are getting hotter and hotter, and the nights and rooms are getting warmer. That’s why this is also something we’re considering, along with a balcony solar power system.
