My first self-sewn clothes for a baby doll

You’re a jack-of-all-trades, dear Ina. 🌹🌹 These turned out so adorable—and they’re even matching outfits.

How big is the doll, and does sewing go faster than crocheting or knitting?

Have fun, both of you, with your doll siblings.

Wow, Steffi, that picture with flowers and butterflies is awesome!😘
I made something similar many years ago (during my crafty phase), but with scissors and a craft knife...

That’s a piggy gnome, Anja. It has a curly tail on its head because—well, it’s a gnome.😁

I’m thinking about adding more animal gnomes to go with the cow, dog, and pig. But first, I need to work through the patterns I’ve already bought. I’m translating them from English and writing them all down in my book. I wouldn’t have thought at first that I’d be able to handle this so well.

Best wishes
Marlies

The big Sailor is still missing his fishing rod with fish.

Right now I’m working on the strawberry gnomes, and after that there are a few others waiting.😊😉

Have a wonderful Sunday.

Busy Little Elves: What Are You Working on Today?

@ Wollbaerli Thank you so much, Christina. I’m home all day, and a one-person household gets things done relatively quickly. That leaves plenty of time for crafts, and I generally crochet and knit very fast. The move is actually this weekend after all, so time was running short.

@ Petra Thank you very much. A few days ago, Dad told me that Leon always looks at my door wreaths with great enthusiasm—and loves to touch them with his little fingers, too... That’s how I got the idea to make him a wreath as well. I’m really going to miss that little guy.
Enjoy your day off.

What’s your current favorite technique?

Right now, crocheting is all the rage, with a few brief breaks for knitting.

Busy Little Elves: What Are You Working on Today?

Yesterday and today I quickly crocheted a door wreath for my little neighbor Leon’s (16 months) new room. He’s always loved my door wreaths and enjoys taking off the occasional decorative piece. That’s why I left out quite a few decorations on his wreath. But he was still thrilled and immediately tried to pull the car off. 😉😊

Now it’s back to my gnomes.

Hardworking little elves: busy in the garden?

It got stormy yesterday afternoon, and today it’s raining on and off, but there isn’t much gardening to do since the landlord cleared out the garden.

I’m glad the stumps are sprouting again. That way, things are getting a little greener. My neighbors have parked their bikes in the flower bed by the front entrance, so there are no flowers there.

Petra, I’m really caught up in gnome fever...😊😉
The three little ones are orange (10 cm), orchid (11 cm), and green (8 cm), made from Catania yarn with sizes 2.5 and 3. The lantern (also available in a larger size) is also made from Catania yarn and measures 14 cm with size 3. The ladybug is 24 cm, the lighthouse is 20 cm, and the watering can is 16 cm. These three are crocheted with size 3 hooks using hobbii friends 8/4 yarn, 160 m per skein.

Today my package arrived with the missing colors for my Sailor, the Angler, and the Dog Gnome. I’ve already started on the Strawberry Gnomes, too. The cake gnome is going to be exciting. He has a three-tiered hat.
And new deals have already come in again... but I think I’ll stay strong 🤣

Yeah, Steffi, that nifty bottle is really a waste of money. Did all sorts of things end up in your shopping cart again? In some stores, that seems to happen all on its own...😉

Here are the finished gnomes:

Hi everyone,

my internet is back!! 🤩🤩 I was without it for a few days again 😡

You’ve all been making some great things in the meantime.👍

What else do you want to “fine-tune” there, Steffi? It looks great already.

Thanks, Anja. Six more are finished and three are still in progress. I couldn’t resist the 70% off sale, so I “stocked up” accordingly. There are patterns for all seasons.
I’m now waiting for the nautical patterns announced here. I want to combine them with my gnomes and elves to create a nautical scene (on the windowsill). I’ll scatter the smaller ones around the apartment.😉
Well, I have more plans than I have space...

Have a lovely evening, everyone.
Marlies

Hennelore is cool, Anja. A real eye-catcher.🤩

Steffi, have you made any progress with your “decluttering project”?

After all those flower children, I’ve caught a new bug: gnomes and elves.
I ventured into an English pattern for the first time:

Some patterns were marked down by 70%. So I went ahead and bought a few more.😊

I’ve crocheted two more, but they still need to be “put together.” I’ve already ordered some new cotton yarn, too...

Anja, the flower children are quick to make, and Martina was right: they’re addictive! 😊
The saleswoman at Wollhimmel said she’s currently crocheting mini hamsters with really big eyes. It’s the trend on TikTok.

I really like your decoration, Petra. It looks great in that frame.

I’m already feeling overwhelmed just looking at it, Steffi. That looks absolutely amazing. 👍 I just can’t do something like that.

Thank you, Petra 😊  I just gave one to my parcel delivery lady.
Reaction: “Oh, how cute,” two steps further down “That’s adorable,” downstairs at the front door “Aw, that is sooo sweet.”
That’s the nicest thank-you you can get.

They were actually meant for the Easter tree, but they’re also cute when they’re placed all around the apartment. I’m sure a few more will be added.

Sewing on buttons

My grandma taught me to sew buttons onto a thread loop. This is especially helpful for jackets and the like.
Dental floss also works well for sewing on buttons.

Repairing and Sewing on Elastic

As long as it hasn’t come off completely, you can repair it. It works pretty well up to about a third of the way, maybe even halfway, but if it’s more than that, it won’t fit as well if sewn by hand.

Drawstrings are easy. Pull out the old elastic, thread the new one back in using a safety pin, sew it together, and you’re done.

That turned out to be a really beautiful pillow, Petra, and those cute little pom-poms on the back...😘

Thank you, Anja. So now they’re colorful Gandalf figures 😉
Your top is chic. With a loose shirt underneath (because of the belly😊), the length works well. But I’d make it longer for myself, too.
Yeah, that’s how it goes with ordering yarn. I ended up adding more than I needed to my order list again.
Jackdaws have taken up residence near me. They’re really annoying and loud. There are crows nesting nearby—their “concert” is truly nerve-wracking. Here, the singing starts at 2:30 a.m. I just don’t know who’s up that early.

Oh, Steffi, what wonderful news! I’m so happy for you both. Wishing your mom all the best and a speedy recovery.🌹
Your scarf is sure to become your lucky scarf now.

Wishing you
all a lovely Sunday evening, Marlies

How is your garden doing right now?

The boundary with the neighbor. There used to be a beautiful beech hedge here, almost two meters high. Trimming it is a lot of work, so it’s gone (just at the end of February), even though the birds were already flying around with nesting material. My landlord isn’t too concerned about that...

Looks like summer on the patio is off the table 😥
This is what was left after the clearing operation. It’s supposed to stay like this until fall, and then the rest will be removed. With such a clear-cut job, they might as well have taken everything away at once.
Supposedly, it’s better for the house… Sure, now the sun, rain, and storms hit it directly—not to mention the loss of noise and privacy protection.

The mirabelle plum blossoms are starting to bloom.

My corkscrew hazel is still standing—we’ll see when they pull that one out.

A few actually survived the caretaker’s operation from last year.

A very lovely gift, Petra. 😊 Your friend is sure to be very happy about it.

Dear Steffi, I wish you all lots of strength and togetherness to get through this. I really hope they make it as easy as possible for your mom.
Your heart for her turned out beautifully.

I wish everyone who is ill a speedy recovery! 🌷

I finished a few things that had been waiting to be "assembled" for quite a while.

a washcloth and a dishcloth

  my spring gnomes

Some of the Easter decorations are finished, and I'm still working on a few things. A sweater for Niklas is still unfinished, and I've started a snuggly blanket.

If only you could do everything you wanted to.....🙄

Warmest regards

How can you tell if a craft pattern is good?

A good pattern must be well-organized and free of spelling errors. Photos are nice and sometimes helpful, but please don’t include one for every single stitch.
Information on yarn, needle/hook size, yarn usage, yardage, sizing, required stitches, and other materials should be clear.
A crochet chart and written-out instructions would be desirable, as would a printer-friendly version. I bought a 34-page pattern that was crammed with unnecessary photos and ads. So I typed out the actual pattern text myself, and lo and behold: one A4 page would have been enough.
Free patterns are wonderful for testing an author’s style. If every author did that, I would have saved a lot of money by now.
Over time, you find your favorite authors here and look forward to their new releases.

Hardworking Little Elves: The Oldest UFO

There are surely still a few UFOs lying around in old wool bags.
The oldest one, if it still exists, is 46 years old. No, that’s not a typo. Back then, I wanted to knit a Smurf and a Pumuckl for my daughter. I got stuck on the heel of the Smurf.
I’ll have to go look for it sometime.

Oversized clothing

At home, I wear my old sweaters that are three sizes too big. That’s fine here.
As long as they don’t hang like a wet sack, I’m okay with it. But if they’re too baggy… oh dear, the Michelin Man says hi. That just ends up emphasizing what you were actually trying to hide.

Changes to the design/layout of the patterns?

For me, the customer photos were a guide in deciding whether or not to buy a pattern.

Above all, customer photos are also a way of showing appreciation for the designers!

Are we now supposed to message the designer and point out the gallery?

The three free patterns on the homepage were also always a great help in making a decision. Thanks to those patterns, I’ve discovered designers I hadn’t necessarily had on my radar, and I’ve realized that I can’t get the hang of some designers’ patterns without spending money first.

Maybe instead of this failed test, CP should have kept working on folders in the wishlist and for downloads. Listen to customer requests instead of upsetting customers.
