I use Schachenmayr Bravo Softy to imitate fur. You can crochet with this yarn just like normal, and it brushes up beautifully. I use a wire-bristled pet brush for this; for smaller items, an old toothbrush works too.
I used this yarn to make my squirrel Speedy, for example.
oh, I’m excited to see how your Chewbacca turns out. I made my otter with that yarn too and brushed it lightly. If you maybe also attach some extra strands and brush them, I can imagine you could achieve Chewbacca’s long-haired effect. Maybe you can try it on a test piece first.
Thanks for the positive feedback. I taught myself how to crochet amigurumi about two years ago with the help of lots of YouTube videos. Up until then, I could only crochet chain stitches. So I was an absolute chain-stitch king.
