Dear users, dear authors,
Do you find it helpful to have an instructional video for crafts, or do you not need one? Do you then perhaps sit in front of the video and craft along with it?
I sewed this Boddycross sling bag following a video, as well as the coin purses I showed here recently. First, I watch the whole video to see if it’s something that interests me at all, and if so, I gather the fabrics and other supplies, then I play the video—keeping my finger on the pause button the whole time—because I’m jotting down the measurements as I go. After cutting out the pieces, I let the video play step by step, pausing it every now and then so I don’t miss anything. From that perspective, I think
videos are always helpful, no matter what kind of craft technique it is. Best regards, Inge
Yes, I also follow along with videos. It usually doesn’t matter whether I understand the language. I just rewind and fast-forward and watch it as many times as it takes until I get it.
I haven’t watched an instructional video for a written pattern yet—everything has always been so clear. But I have worked from a video tutorial before. Since I really liked it, I wrote down the instructions so I’d always have them on hand. I don’t save videos anymore—after losing all my data twice due to a total system crash, I still prefer to stick with paper.
I find most of them very helpful. Since I knit a lot of different patterns, and mostly from English patterns too, they are very helpful. And sometimes you just have a “mental block” when reading, and then an instructional video like that is very helpful.
I don’t take notes or anything like that; I just watch it briefly once (or more often), maybe letting the stitches fly over the needle at the same time....
I also find videos very helpful... it’s really convenient—you watch a section and then follow along. I feel the same way as Petra; sound and/or subtitles tend to distract me—it’s enough just to see how it’s done.
