Back from vacation

Good morning, thank you all. It’s nice to be back here on the forum, too.

@Libelle11 : Yes, I live in Norway (moved here in 2012). Living where others go on vacation :-)

Have a great work week, everyone—hope you had a wonderful Pentecost holiday.

Have a wonderful Pentecost weekend

I hope you all have lovely Pentecost holidays with plenty of sunshine. Have lots of fun and relax.

I still have some time off, too.

@Ina: Get well soon. I had a cold like that during the first week of my vacation, too—you can’t really enjoy anything properly (outings), but crocheting and knitting do help.

Best wishes, Andrea

Back from vacation

Hi there, dear forum members,

Just wanted to check in. I’m back. The vacation went by way too fast, but it was nice and warm. Now we’re back in Norway, and it’s raining, but the temperature is pleasant.
It’s funny—on Friday we were still lying on the beach, and today we’re back here in a light drizzle.
I’ll post some pictures later.

Best regards,
Andrea

Thank you so much. It’s pure relaxation here—feasting, eating ice cream, and I’ve even brought my crochet supplies. And this “nature noise” just feels so good.

I'm looking for a picture (crocheted tunic)

Hi, fellow crocheters!
Can anyone help me? I’m looking for this photo of the crocheted tunic for the Schlagermove that was shown here, but I can’t find the page anymore.
I really liked it, and I wanted to take another look at it or try crocheting it myself.

Thanks in advance.

Final Stretch and Awards Ceremony / April Edition.

Dear Josefa,
I just read it. Thank you so much for the “UFO Queen” title and the bunny. Yippee! I was so happy to read your kind words—it really motivates me for the next project. This is my first title here—thank you.

And once again, you’ve all finished such amazing things. It’s incredible what our hands can conjure up with yarn, imagination, and ideas.

Buttons on Handmade Projects: Which Buttons Do You Like to Use Most?

Wow, Hanny1, you have so many buttons. I don’t have nearly that many.

I have a manageable collection of old buttons in a small box. I save them or take them off old clothes.

I really love those old glass buttons with ornate designs—unfortunately, I don’t have any of those left. I mostly use sturdy plastic and metal buttons, and for my crochet figures, I ordered these mini buttons with a 6 mm diameter.
I even still have those old white buttons for duvet covers. I never throw anything away.

How are you today?

mowi19, I live in eastern Norway. You definitely wouldn’t want to live here—we have long, cold winters and short summers.
It also took a long time for it to finally warm up here. Today it was even 21 degrees. It was almost unbearable in the sun. But soooo nice and warm.
Super gorgeous, idyllic scenery. It’s only a 10-minute bike ride to the little fjord—the forest is right on my doorstep, so to speak.

How are you today?

I’m doing great today. I enjoyed my “day off”—out on the patio in glorious sunshine today, with my crochet project and a cup of cappuccino, feet up. That’s a great way to unwind and take a break from the daily grind.

When my husband came home from work, we had coffee outside and ate some ice cream.
Now he’s out for a ride on his road bike—a “quick” one, of course. So he’s wearing a short-sleeved shirt and shorts. That wasn’t really an option weather-wise the last few days here—it was still a bit chilly.

So all in all, a lovely day.

April Projects: Part 2.

You’ve all finished such great things again.

Arni, your Schlagermove top turned out so great. I think the mesh sleeves with that granny edging are a perfect match. I like it, and I’d even wear it myself.

Fun-Design, your decorated paintbrush looks really cool. Is that painted on? It looks so three-dimensional—great. A real eye-catcher. The photo, too.

April Projects: Part 2.

I’m so happy—and proud at the same time—that I finally managed to finish my bunny UFO after all. Actually, I really didn’t feel like it, especially since I wanted to start something new again. Thanks to you all, I thought to myself, “No, you have to finish this first.” On top of that, I managed to overcome my own inner slacker.

Now Hasi is finished. Unfortunately, he had to hop through Easter without legs. But the outlook is good for next year. He’s finally “alive.”

Here are the pictures

Question about a pattern

Hi Kerstin,

this is how I understand it: Round 4: you crochet 2 sc in one stitch, then 1 sc in the next stitch (repeat this 3 times), which gives you 9 stitches; then you crochet 3 sc (1 sc in each stitch) = 3 stitches

now you have 9 + 3 stitches = 12 stitches; repeat that twice to reach 24 stitches

I hope that helps. Good luck!

How are you all doing?

Well, I’ve been doing really well today. I had the day off, enjoyed a leisurely and hearty breakfast, and did a little housework. It’s very sunny today and finally really warm. When the sun came out, I sat out on the patio—it was wonderful. I really soaked up the sun’s warmth; spring is finally in the air here, too. With a cup of cappuccino and my crochet supplies, I was able to really relax.
After this “winter depression,” you just need that.

Another crocheted doll (a commission for a coworker) still needs crocheted hair, which I’ll finish tomorrow and then have to sew on, so I can take the dolls with me on Wednesday (it’s supposed to be an Easter gift for her daughters).

Oh, and I’ve dyed the first Easter eggs, too.

Then I still need to finish a little beadwork project as a small Easter gift for our landlady. Willow catkins made of beads.
Over the next few days, I’ll finish a fruit tart for Easter, and tomorrow I’ll run out to buy a few little things. Then Easter can come with peace of mind—a completely relaxed time alone with my husband, no visitors. Maybe a little bike ride to the Drammenfjord, if the weather cooperates.

I wish everyone here a wonderful Easter

Finally, the weekend: Off to the sun :-)

We went on a bike ride, but it was windy and really cold on our ears. So we sat out in the sun by the Drammenfjord. We even spotted a starfish in the clear water. Seriously. We had to look twice, but it was definitely one. Maybe I’ll upload the picture sometime.
We had to move our coffee break indoors. All in all, it was a lovely Sunday.

I wish everyone a great start to the new week and hope you keep coming up with great ideas.

Best regards, Andrea

Finally, the weekend: Off to the sun :-)

I hope everyone here has a lovely Sunday too. One we'll still enjoy before the workweek starts again on Monday.

The sun is shining today, but it's quite windy, more than yesterday. Still, we'll go on a little bike ride. Later maybe sit outside on the terrace and crochet, drink cappuccino, and have homemade cheesecake with whipped cream.

@Sofis-Welt, my parents are just like yours in that respect. Mine are already 73 and 75, but still fit for their age, dress in a modern way, and look younger too. They gave up their garden, but they're still always on the go (walking, bowling, hiking, swimming, short trips...). That's great. It also motivates you to move a bit more, not just your fingers (crocheting). My grandma was even almost 91 when she died last year. She was still walking without a cane.

Otherwise, we'll let Sunday wind down nice and quietly, with a movie and pizza in the evening.

How do you celebrate Easter?

For us, Maundy Thursday is already a holiday—I have to work then—and Easter Monday means more money (holiday pay). My husband has time off until Easter Monday. But in exchange, we have Friday through Sunday off together. Of course, that means sleeping in, followed by a hearty, delicious breakfast (with fresh rolls, eggs, salmon, cappuccino...)

Colorfully dyed Easter eggs are a must, of course (my mom sent me special Easter egg dye from Germany—you can’t get it here).
In the afternoon, we’ll have homemade cake with whipped cream.

Depending on the weather here (there’s still some snow in places), we’ll either go for a walk or sit out on the patio—I can crochet there wonderfully, and my husband can pursue his hobby (riding his bike or motorcycle, or tinkering with them).
No stress—just taking it easy. We don’t have any visitors planned.

April Projects: Great Titles and Nice People

mowi19 and Modi, thanks for your kind words. I really want to finish my bunny, too.
Ruthk, your puppet figures turned out so cute—they remind me of my childhood.

Yeah, this bunny looks a lot like the one from “Bunny School” or something like that. This one is also from a crochet book called “Das Osterfest” by Anja Toonen. He’ll get a jacket too.

Everyone here is so hardworking, and such great things are being created.
Today I was also able to sit outside on the patio and keep crocheting my sweater (RvO)—since the pattern is very simple, I can do it alongside other things.

Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend full of crochet fun—or knitting too :-)

Andrea

April Projects: Great Titles and Nice People

mowi19, you knit such wonderful things. The leggings for the doll look so great. Every doll mom would be delighted. I’d love to be a kid again at your house, even though my mom also knitted and crocheted for my doll.
By the way, I still have the doll I got when I was 9. She could use a pair of pants too. But first, I have to finish my bunny UFO.
Here’s a progress photo of the bunny. I hope I can finish it by the UFO deadline.

Wooly Wednesday: How much wool do you need to be happy?

Well, a small stash of yarn is enough for me, so I can finish crocheting smaller projects. Since I’m a fan of mini versions anyway—like amigurumi and dolls—I always have some in stock. That makes me happy.

What’s your current favorite material and color?

I mainly work with cotton yarns in all pastel shades, and I love all the colors of the rainbow. As long as it’s colorful.

What’s your current favorite material and color?

Deleila: Your bracelet looks great. That’s that stringing technique, like the coasters we used to make, right? I also do crafts with beads (flowers, earrings, bookmarks, doilies). Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to devote much time to this hobby lately.
Crocheting is my thing right now.

How much time do you currently spend on crafts each day?

Time? Sometimes more, sometimes less. It depends on whether I have the day off or have to work.
After work, there isn’t much time left—just a few rounds of crocheting, and that’s it. I’m currently working on two projects at the same time.
One is my sweater, which I want to finish by my May vacation, and the other is my
Easter bunny, which I’m continuing to crochet.
When I have the day off, I can keep crocheting, but with breaks (to do housework).
I’d need another life after this one—there are so many projects I still want to crochet, and my yarn stash just isn’t getting any smaller. Plus, I have to take breaks (to let my hands rest).

Carnival

Well, here in Norway, Carnival isn’t really a thing either. We live a bit out of the way, so there’s nothing going on. It’s absolutely
quiet. I think when you get older, you don’t really need that kind of thing anymore.

We used to go to Carnival events with dancing all the time, and we’d dress up for them. It was always
a lot of fun. But now we prefer peace and quiet and a cozy atmosphere.

For kids, there’s Carnival at schools and preschools, but other than that, I have no idea.
We’d rather do some crocheting and crafts.

Bobbels

OK, CreatOwl, I’ll give it a try. Thanks for the tip.

Bobbels

Well, I’ve also caught the Bobbel mania, and I’m thrilled. I prefer crocheting, and working with these multiple strands goes quite well. With a 4-strand Bobbel at the moment, I’m even using a size 2.5 crochet hook. It works wonderfully; the yarn is super thin and soft (50% cotton and 50% acrylic), and I also crochet a bit loosely, so it fits.
If you have pure cotton Bobbels, you’ll probably need to use a larger needle/hook size than I am using now.

These Bobbels with that Lurex strand in them don’t crochet up well; I’ve tried it. The Lurex strand sometimes sags and doesn’t always run along evenly, but with a little practice that works too, though it’s less fun. Everyone just has to try it for themselves to see what works best.

Wishing everyone here a lovely weekend with crochet or knitting in hand. There’s still a whole lot of snow here.
