Even if it may not look like it at the moment, fall and winter are just around the corner, and then it will be hat season again. Babies and toddlers really don’t like having something pulled over their heads. Still, a balaclava-style hat like this is ideal, because nothing slips out of place and the neck stays warm at the same time.

I feel the same way as Petra—I wear a lot of secondhand clothes or knit them myself. Luckily, I inherit lots of beautiful brand-name items from my friend or trade for them on my swap portal. That way, there are no more toxins in the fabric. When my budget allows, I only buy organic cotton or woolen items from happy sheep, such as those from Finkhof. 

Sandra, it’s okay to feel that way sometimes—I’m sure we’ve all been there. I, too, have been feeling a bit annoyed more often lately. I hope you get to relax and enjoy some time for yourself and your hobbies during your kid-free time.

Yesterday, we took a walk in the park in Bad Füssing with our guests in the most beautiful summer weather. There are gorgeous blooms to admire there—we really enjoyed it. Afterward, we were invited over to some friends’ place nearby for coffee and cake. It was a great day.

Today it’s rainy and relatively cool, so I’m planning to do a little tidying up and some knitting.

Josefa, I’m so touched… sooo many titles! I especially loved “Queen of Grandma’s Sweaters.” You always come up with something new. Thank you for the belated awards ceremony! :)

I’m also happy with July. I celebrated my 28th wedding anniversary and spent a lot of time enjoying the garden in beautiful weather.

I’m wrapping up the month today and tomorrow with a sweater for my 4-year-old granddaughter. That means my first Christmas gift is finished, too.

They look really pretty!

I have to admit that I only recently discovered my love for triangular shawls. I’ve already knitted my third one, and I mostly wear them in the morning or evening on the patio or in the garden. Or when I’m feeling a bit chilly, but a sweater would be too warm. It’s really a great alternative. And that’s why I already have yarn ready for a fourth shawl. Then I’ll have all the colors I love.

Flowers and Plants from A to Z?

I found my very first knitting project—a doll’s scarf. It’s almost 60 years old now and keeps my teddy bear warm.



I also made a little craft pouch like Akela’s back in school. It was prettily embroidered with my name. But unfortunately, it went missing at some point. Such a shame. Back then, it was the kind of fabric that was perfect for cross-stitch, and I still remember exactly what it looked like.

I also crocheted borders around handkerchiefs at school—I remember now. And they were actually used. We had lots of them. Tempo tissues didn’t exist back then. Unfortunately, I don’t have any photos; I have no idea where they ended up.

I also made a small knotted wall hanging once when I was about 20. I gave it to my mom for Christmas. I really enjoyed knotting back then.

Back then, people also knitted a lot with a French knitting spool. I have two of them, but I have to admit that I haven’t used them in decades.

My yarn supply is slowly dwindling because I’m still on a diet. I’ve used up a lot of leftover yarn crocheting nests for wild animals.
