How was Pentecost? Are you happy with May?

It was just the same for us as it was for Petra.

Seed Stitch Projects

This RVO cardigan for dolls (40–50 cm) or premature babies is knitted using a mix of patterns. It includes a seed stitch pattern, and the entire button placket is also knitted in seed stitch. The advantage of this is that the button placket doesn’t need to be knitted separately—it’s simply worked right into the rows.

Thanks, Angela, for posting the answer here. I didn’t know that either until now. But it’s good to know for the future. The main thing is that your photo is back up now. :)

Have a great weekend too, and best regards

New in May 2020

The doll (40–50 cm) needs new summer clothes. With this cute outfit set, you’ll make every doll mom’s eyes light up. Easy to knit if you have some knitting experience. You can even use leftover yarn here.

Hardworking little helpers: What are you working on when the sun is shining?

Today, in the most beautiful summer weather, I’ve almost finished crocheting another nest for baby animals in the garden and have been enjoying the nature all around me—including the birdsong.

Which animals are trending right now?

Ohhh, I think that sparrow is so cute! The photo is absolutely adorable.

I love birds, too, and I’m always happy to see them hopping around in our garden all year round. That’s why I really enjoy crocheting nests for animals that need to be nursed back to health.

Got yarn?

Berli, when I see your yarn like that, I’m sure I have just as much. Mine is spread out in closets, dressers, and even in boxes. Oh my, that adds up to quite a few kilos. I always sort it by quality and type.

Weekend plans? Happy Mother’s Day :-)

I also wish all mothers and grandmothers a wonderful day with your loved ones. For me, being a mother is one of the most important roles in life, because through it we help shape the future and pass on values of love, compassion, and self-confidence to our children.

To all the mothers in the world: You are sooo precious!

Legal Notice Requirements

Hi there,

you don’t need a legal notice here, since the patterns are sold by CP and you just receive the commission. That really takes a lot of the burden off you as the author. You also don’t need to worry about the usual things like data protection. CP handles all of that.

However, it’s definitely a good idea to include a legal notice in your pattern—with your name, address, phone number, and email. That way, customers can easily reach you if they have any questions.

I wish you the best of luck!

Warm regards
Monika

I’ll continue crocheting my UFO in May. Right now, I’m still working on a pattern I bought a long time ago and want to finish.

What’s exciting you right now?

For almost a year now, I’ve been baking using only a tiny bit of yeast and yeast water. I keep refreshing the yeast water, and it’s still the same original batch. It works great! However, I do let the bread or rolls rise for longer.

Now I only need 1/4 of the yeast I would have used otherwise. If I can’t get any more yeast at all, I’ll try making it without any. That should work too—I’ll just let it rise longer.

I think you can find the recipe for yeast water on several websites, including Smarticular.

By the way, we’ve been baking our own bread and rolls in various styles for a very long time. It tastes much better, and I know exactly what’s in it. It’s become very quick and almost effortless.

How are you doing? Are you happy with March?

Since I was born in March, it’s always one of my favorite months. Regardless of what’s going on in the world, I made the best of it, and yes, it was still a wonderful month for me. I’ve become so much more grateful for all the good things in my life—that I’m healthy and that my family and I have everything we need.

I hope everyone here is doing well. Everything will change for the better; our world will be different—better. That’s my deepest feeling.

Coronavirus, Sad Times

Ruth, I think that after going through this, we’re now even more grateful for everything we’ll be allowed to do again and for what we have. Because, unfortunately, you only realize that when things aren’t that way.

Yes, our grandmothers were very often single mothers, and usually with many children. They didn’t have a washing machine, a dishwasher, or a refrigerator; no TV (for distraction); no phone, etc. And yet they always managed, despite worrying about their husbands who were at war. I have the utmost respect for that! They were truly strong women! When I think about it, I can’t help but feel deeply grateful for all the comforts we have. So we can easily manage to stay home for a while. As long as we have enough wool, we can count ourselves lucky.

Have a great weekend

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all your beautiful photos and glimpses into your lives.
Now I get to see Anton’s bag in action on his balance bike. Awesome! Yes, Anton has really grown.

Perle, your home reminds me of a little witch’s cottage that invites you to linger and explore. It’s sooo cozy there—I’d love it too. I really like all those “knick-knacks”—as some might say.

Ruth, your home looks beautiful and really brings that springtime feeling.

Andrea, thank you for letting us enjoy the beautiful nature around your home. There will be other times again when we can enjoy all of this together with friends and family. Only… then we’ll be able to appreciate it all the more with gratitude.

Ina, I really love your home too—at least what I’ve seen so far. A gazebo like that would be on my wish list as well. You can already look forward to that.

I wish you all a wonderful Sunday. Do what brings you joy and take good care of yourselves.

Craft Magazines

Ever since I discovered CP, I haven’t bought any magazines. I used to be the same way—only one pattern in each issue would catch my interest. I just need pictures to go with them; otherwise, I find it hard to follow along.

I still have some old magazines lying around, and I flip through them when I need specific size measurements. My granddaughters don’t live with me, so I know the measurements roughly.

Two years ago, a friend gave me a very valuable old craft book that was just sitting around at her place. It’s a real treasure trove of inspiration, especially when it comes to patterns. Here’s an example: I tried to knit a pattern based on a 60-year-old children’s jacket. No chance—the jacket was pretty matted. The pattern wasn’t in any of the newer books or magazines either. But… I found it in this book and was thrilled.

These days, when I need a pattern, I look here on CP. It’s simply the best for me. I’m so happy to have found this site.

Take care and stay safe.

Paid for a download but didn't receive it

Hi Gabriele,
if you paid with PayPal (and not by bank transfer), you should be able to find your download.

Click on “Account” in the top right corner and then on “Downloads”. It should show up there.

If it’s not there, you can contact support here. They’ll definitely be able to help you.
It’s best to send an email to support@crazypatterns.net.

Good luck, and have a great weekend!

Best regards, Monika

Bind off: Tips and Tricks?

Ruth, that’s a great tip—thanks for the reminder. I’ve done it before but then completely forgot about it.

When I want to bind off loosely—for example, for ribbing—I use a knitting needle that’s at least two sizes larger—so if I’m using size 3 needles, I’ll use size 4. That always works really well.

New Knitting Patterns for March 2020

A colorful summer skirt that’s quick and easy to put on and take off—something 3- to 4-year-old girls are sure to especially enjoy. The thin cotton makes the little skirt easy-care, airy, and lightweight.

Also ideal for colorful leftover cotton yarn.

Our Knitting and Crochet Tools

I’ll go first.

When I need to pick up stitches on a sleeve or at the neck while knitting, I use a needle that’s a crochet hook on one end and a knitting needle on the other. This makes it easier to pick up the stitches and then simply slide them onto the knitting needle later.

Here’s what it looks like in this example—the stitches are being picked up at the neck.

The needle looks like this at both ends:

Your Favorite Crafting Experience?

I’m thrilled and very touched by your stories, Ina and Mel. The little guy is so cute, and you can clearly see that he really loves the sloth. Yes, that really brings joy.

So I’ve been thinking about what my best crafting experience has been. Of course, there are many…
But the best one was definitely when my granddaughter (the daughter of our foster daughter) asked me to crochet a suit for her stuffed animal. She’d been carrying that little sheep around for more than 10 years by then, and it was about to fall apart. So I crocheted a suit for the little sheep, and she’s still absolutely thrilled with it today. That way, the little sheep got a new lease on life, and she can even still take it to bed with her—even at 13 years old. Here’s what it looked like after I finished crocheting it:

There’s just nothing more rewarding than giving gifts to children. And yes, of course there are adults who are also very happy to receive something handmade. My kids are always thrilled with the knitted and crocheted items for the grandchildren.

How’s the yarn / your yarn stash / your leftover yarn coming along? Woolly Wednesday

Dear Barbara,

I can totally relate—it would be sad for me, too, if I couldn’t work with my yarn.

But you know, the yarn is surely waiting patiently until you’re feeling well enough again to create pretty things with it. Just keep picturing it and believe that the time will come soon.

Then the joy will be immense! :)

Warm regards—from eastern Bavaria

Is there a formula for increases when knitting?

There’s no secret formula, but the “Knitting Calculator & Abacus” always helps me with the calculations. Try searching for it online. I bought mine at am... It always comes in handy when I need to do the math.

How are your leftover yarn scraps doing? Woolly Wednesday

My leftover yarn is doing well, too. I’ve already been able to use some of it for little nests, socks, and a shawl collar. Since I plan to be on a yarn diet for a while, that pile is going to shrink quite a bit.
