This is an airy, lightweight summer scarf made from sock yarn, for cool nights or also for spring and fall. It is crocheted, mainly in a mesh pattern, with cables worked in between to make the whole thing a bit sturdier.
The cables are not difficult at all; how to make them is explained in a tutorial with pictures. Apart from that, you need to know double crochet and chain stitches—that’s all.
For materials, you need two skeins of sock yarn and a 3.5 mm crochet hook.

With a bag in cheerful, bright colors, going shopping is twice as fun.

Speaking of trendy colors—I keep a very close eye on them because I always think I could make something in those colors so I’m ready when they come into style. But somehow, something always gets in the way :-)

In the beginning, whenever I was crocheting in rows, I could never keep the number of stitches the same—it just kept increasing with every row! So my first pot holders weren’t square, but more like trapezoids :-)

I have a few more lying around, but I never wear those.

So I also grew into it through my family. I think I could read knitting charts before I could read anything else.
Partly because of my grandma, who placed a lot of importance on needlework. At her house, every free space was decorated with doilies; the tablecloths were crocheted, the bedspreads were crocheted—basically, the whole apartment was a collection of crocheted items. I wanted to be able to do that too, and my grandma taught me. That’s how I ended up making a few crocheted doilies.
My mom was always more of a knitter; she was constantly knitting for us kids. Of course, I wanted to be able to do that too, and because I wanted to do it right, my first knitting project was a sweater for myself. It was a little wonky, but I was proud of it.
Later, I took up embroidery—we learned that in school, and I really enjoyed doing it.
Actually, things were different back when we were in school—for a while, it was cool to knit during class.
After school, I took a longer break from it. Once I had my own family and a full-time job on top of that, I just ran out of steam. But things have fallen back into place :-) My daughter knits now, too. She’s not really into crocheting yet, but maybe that will come later.

Mickey Mouse is cute :-) I have this quirk: there can’t be anything on my T-shirts—no palm trees and no “Route 66” or anything like that—they have to be solid-colored. Otherwise, I don’t feel comfortable in them.

Every year, winter comes around again (sorry, summer is coming now—but winter comes afterward), and as annoying as it is, you need something warm to wear. If you're going to do it, you might as well make something yourself; that way you at least have fun with it beforehand and, when you're finished, a beautiful piece you can show off. A scarf is definitely part of a winter wardrobe.

Basically, this is a ribbed scarf. It can also basically be knitted in any wool you like; thin or thick doesn't matter, since you can add or leave out pattern repeats.
What makes the pattern special are the slipped-stitch cables, which can be knitted with or without a cable needle (both are described in the pattern), giving the scarf an extra surface texture in addition to the ribs. It's not rocket science; it looks more difficult than it is.

I knitted my stole from a cotton-blend yarn with 329 m per 100 g. It should be something of a comparable weight. The amount needed depends entirely on the desired length. But you should plan on at least 600 m, since brioche stitch uses up a lot of yarn.

Because it is knitted on the bias, the gradients in the yarn show off very nicely. The scarf is easy to knit, mainly in stockinette stitch. It has a lace edge on one side.
