April Projects and March Projects 2022, Part 3: the Crazypatterns Crafting Group

That’s looking really good already, Marlene.

Cats only hear what they want to hear anyway, Anja…wink. It was the same with our Benny.

Way back when, I also sewed baby clothes by hand (under Grandma’s guidance). These days, I wouldn’t have the patience for it anymore. Hats off to you, Ruth.

I really like your cuddly pillows, Ines.

Andrea, your bunnies are really funny. They’re sure to bring a lot of joy to their new owners.

Luna’s Puli is finished
It took a while because my hands are starting to go numb again. They don’t really like knitting.
I always wonder how you manage to do it all so quickly, Monika.

Next, I have to switch back to crocheting. That goes faster for me anyway…laughs.

Luna is here!

Thanks to both of you, too.

The first little sweater (size 62) is finished.

Luna is 55 cm tall. But doll clothes for 55 cm don’t fit her.
I have to make baby clothes in size 62/68 because her soft fabric body makes her a bit chubbier. Especially around the thighs. It’ll probably have to be bloomers.

But it’s so much fun to mix and match old things from my kids with new ones.

Love, Marlies

@ Anja
Our cat Benny didn’t like tea tree oil at all. Whenever he was supposed to go outside but didn’t want to, all I had to do was grab the little bottle and Benny was gone.

I’m so glad your kitten is doing you so much good. What’s your cutie’s name?

April Projects and March Projects 2022, Part 3: the Crazypatterns Crafting Group

Oh my, you’ve all been so busy! And you’ve made such amazing things.

I’ve spent the last two weeks just moping and shedding tears. Miss Daughter has managed it: my husband has left me. He believes her outrageous lies. Well, and above all, she’s using our granddaughter as leverage.
Now I have my little Luna, and things are looking up again. I’ll be participating more here again, too.

I did some knitting over Easter. Two washcloths for me and a little cloth for Luna. I started on the little sweater, but she beat me to it.

Sewing on a button / Sewing on buttons

I have a blouse and a dress where there’s a small piece of fabric between the back of the fabric and the backing button. I guess it’s there to protect the fabric.

Luna is here!

Thank you all so much. I’m really happy.

Since Luna arrived two days earlier than expected, I’m a little behind schedule. There’s still a lot to do. Right now, she’s wearing clothes from my kids.
A few items from the “I’ll-save-that-for-later” box fit her. It’s hard to imagine that all three of them were five and six cm smaller at birth.
I’m knitting away and hope my wrist holds up.
The crib I had planned for her is, of course, too small as well. I’ll have to figure something out there, too.

P.S.:

She was actually supposed to be a Leonie, but I think she’s more of a Luna. Maybe there’ll be another Leonie soon…

Luna is here!

Hi everyone,

my Luna arrived today.

She’s 55 cm tall and a real ray of sunshine. Now she definitely needs some new clothes, which means it’s time to stop moping and shedding tears and get cracking with the crochet hooks and knitting needles.
I’ve just got a sweater on the needles that I actually knitted for my daughter 45 years ago.
It’s a good thing my old pattern books are still in the closet.
But I’m sure I’ll find some lovely projects among your great patterns, too.
I just haven’t decided yet whether I’m a mom or a grandma… lol.

Best regards

Bakery, Part 4.

That bread looks really delicious, Petra.

Can you still get flour where you are? We haven’t been able to find any here for two weeks.

Today we had muffins with lemon icing and coconut macaroons again. He didn’t want a birthday cake—grumble…
We went out for lunch today. We had Hamburg-style pan-fried fish with mustard sauce and fried potatoes.
We’re going to treat ourselves to some delicious ice cream in a bit and wrap up the 75th.

Hugs, Marlies

What are you cooking today?

We had white cabbage with ground beef, cabbage sausage, and boiled potatoes. There’s still enough left for tomorrow, even though I actually wanted to prepare a great birthday dinner for him. But he doesn’t want that—not even a nice cake. He’d rather have muffins.

What are you cooking today?

This morning we finished tidying up my in-laws’ grave. It looks nice again, and this time we added lots of colorful flowers.
That’s why we went to the Lühe pier at lunchtime and had a currywurst and fries. Afterward, we had an ice cream sundae.

Have a great weekend + Daylight Saving Time

Wishing you all a peaceful, sunny weekend.

This stupid time change—it always takes me almost two weeks to fully adjust.
That’s right, Inge—no one actually saved any energy because of it. That was obvious.
Veronika, they just can’t seem to agree on whether we should stick with daylight saving time or standard time.

A little bee looking for food

Over on our patio, there’s always a really big “fluffy butt” buzzing around the garden swing. In the flower bed, they’re already trying to chase me away when I want to pull something out. It actually hurts when one of those “fluffy butts” buzzes into your temple with that much force. Life is so dangerous... lol.

Crocheting or knitting?

I’ve definitely turned to crocheting, even though I can do and enjoy both.

I used to knit a lot—baby clothes, socks, sweaters, skirts, etc. A few years ago, my fingers started to “fall asleep” when I knitted for long periods. Because of that, I almost exclusively crochet now.
My needlework teacher always used to say, “Girl, you’ll never finish a decent pot holder in your whole life.” (They always ended up looking more and more like triangles after a few rows.) Unfortunately, she had just passed away by the time I crocheted my first christening gown at age 16.
Every now and then, I like to knit a dishcloth or something similar—something I can do on the side while watching TV.
But crocheting is my true passion. So many people have already received crocheted curtains—but I haven’t yet. I’m not giving up hope, though.

March Projects 2022, Part 2: the Crazypatterns Crafting Group

Sandra, your dinosaur bags turned out great. I’m sure they’ll be a hit.

Anja, are you feeling better? Is that jacket still sitting in the corner? It looks nice.

Monika, your babies are just adorable. The sets are fantastic and in such great colors. I’m thrilled and never cease to be amazed by how fast you work.

Andrea, your bunny turned out so cute. Is everything back to normal for you, too?

Ruth, your sausage platter/snack spread is brilliant. I’m going to make that, too. It’ll make a great birthday gift.

Marlene, your shawl turned out great. I love the jagged edge, and the color gradient looks really nice.

Christina, you’ve got a cute little doll there, and the hat turned out very chic. Your knitting group will definitely be thrilled with the little baskets.

Ina, the picture frame turned out cute. Your princess looks so cuddly. I just want to reach out and hug her right away. Thanks for sharing.

Today I finally get to show something too (and write in peace...):

Test crocheting the “Midori” doily for Marlene. A great pattern.

Test-crocheting a little horse for Gabi. The little horse was immediately adopted by my neighbor’s daughter.

And the little bear is finally for me. It’s dangling from my purse.

Next up is the Unimog for my husband’s birthday. He wasn’t too keen on a sweater. That’s fine—he’ll get a Unimog just like the one he learned to drive in as a little boy.

Now he’s getting bored again and calling for me…

Have a lovely evening.
Warm regards
Marlies

Working with embroidery floss

Besides embroidery, I use embroidery floss for very small crochet projects. It’s a bit fiddly because of the 6 strands, but it’s doable. I received a large box full of embroidery floss and pearl yarn as a gift, which I can use this way.

Dear Ina,
heartfelt congratulations on your little granddaughter, and all the best to the parents and the baby!
It’s completely understandable that nothing else matters much right now.

There’s already quite a bit to do in the garden. We’re busy with that, too. We still need to remove the old hedge plants and replant new ones.
We’re slowly getting the greenhouse ready.

Have a wonderful day, everyone.

Good evening

Thank you so much. It’s 25° in the sun. It’s only really cold where the sun doesn’t reach.

Petra: Yes, there were some brief problems again, but now everything’s okay and all the tests have come back normal. My vaccine reactions are also subsiding. I got my second shingles shot on Thursday and had some real trouble. Everything hurt. I even thought I’d been run over by a tank. I couldn’t hold a crochet hook for a few days because I had cramps all the way to my fingertips. I’ve never had such a severe reaction to a vaccine before.
Next week or the week after, we’ll get our second booster shot.

Veronika: Everyone comes to see the cherry blossoms, but I think the pale pink apple blossoms are much prettier. The Alte Land is always worth a visit.

Monika: Let’s see how spring progresses. The flowers are popping up everywhere. But it’s still freezing pretty hard at night.

The Magic of Flowers

Your beauties look great!
I once received a blooming wonder like that from my part-time child. It bloomed profusely over and over again for a very long time. Unfortunately, my friend overwatered it while I was on vacation. I was very sad.

Hard-working little elves: Where is your creativity taking you today?

Marion, you’ve chosen some really beautiful colors for your tunic.

Your shawl has a great pattern, Marlene. I really like it.

After I crocheted a filet crochet picture, I moved on to making a curtain for the bathroom window. My husband didn’t like the green one anymore (the one he absolutely had to have back then). Now there’s a blue one hanging there. It’s a smooth, shiny fabric that wasn’t really easy to sew (by hand). But my husband is happy.

The pattern testing for Marlene is done. The blanket looks great. Now it’s time for pattern testing for Gabi. My granddaughter will get the little horse to play with.
On the side, I’m crocheting a little teddy bear as a bag charm. The moose season is over, after all.

Best regards, Marlies

Yarn Swap Package No. 1/2022 Is on Its Way, Part 2.

This is what I got from the swap package. I’m so excited!
I drove home just to swap some yarn, and this afternoon the package is heading off to Ina. After that, I’m heading back to the Alte Land. We both still have a few doctor’s appointments to get through. Hopefully, they’ll be able to tell us what’s causing my husband’s pain.
He didn’t understand the whole swap package thing: “If you have yarn, why are you getting that huge box, and why are you sending your yarn away?” I tried to explain it to him: “Women and yarn—you don’t have to understand it.” Next, I’m taking him to a yarn shop…

Have a great day, everyone.
Best wishes

Yarn Swap Package No. 1/2022 Is on Its Way, Part 2.

I picked up the package from the post office today and just took a quick look inside. I could keep all of this if I had enough to swap.
My husband walked into the living room and just said, “What’s this? We just bought some yarn. That’ll last us ten years.” Well, my husband just has no clue… lol.
I’m going to take a good look at it all, and then on Monday or Tuesday it’ll be on its way back to Ina.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend. Enjoy the beautiful weather.

Darning Socks / Making Socks Last Longer: Is darning socks making a comeback thanks to the sustainability trend?

I learned how to darn at school, and later I was allowed to darn my grandpa’s knitted socks at my grandma’s house. I darned my daughter’s hand-knitted socks until they couldn’t be mended any further. Then I’d cut off the foot section and reknit it. I always set aside extra yarn for that.
I still darn today’s thicker socks. The thin, flimsy ones are used for cleaning or as stuffing.
I also almost exclusively buy packs of solid-colored socks, so I can pair them up again later.

Your tiger is awesome, Ines. I’d leave it without fringes, too. Fringes just don’t really go with the tiger.

Marlene, I really like how your shawl is starting to look. It’s definitely going to turn out beautiful.

Oh, Steffi, that’s too bad about the surprise. Don’t let it get you down too much.

Christina, your dishcloths look great. I especially like the gray one. A cord-edged cast-off sounds interesting.

I’m currently trying my hand at a filet pattern by Frieda. But I’m not quite happy with it yet.
I’m taking a break for now. I have quite a headache. My eyes probably still need to get used to my new glasses. I was able to pick them up this morning.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.
