I'm so glad that my family has been spared so far.
And that my grandchildren didn't have to go to school or kindergarten, since my daughter is still on parental leave.
So far, no one in our circle has been affected either—not my parents, my sister, her partner, their children, etc.
My godmother tested positive in the spring of 2020, but she had only mild symptoms.
We’re all—including the youngest ones (ages 5 and 7, and the baby, thanks to my vaccinations while I was still breastfeeding)—fully vaccinated or have received booster shots.
There have been more and more cases around us recently, but they’ve all been detected only through routine testing, and in very few cases were they even symptomatic.
I’m very glad to be able to send the kids to school and daycare, and I’m taking full advantage of that, even though I work from home most of the time. But that wouldn’t work at all with a baby and one or more of the other kids.
We’re doing our best to otherwise have very few close contacts.
Stay healthy, everyone, and above all, keep a positive outlook!
I’m also glad that everyone in our family is COVID-free—we’re all vaccinated, and some of us have had booster shots.
I hope it stays that way.
At work, we have to self-test every 2–3 days because we work with residents who need care. Everything’s fine.
I agree with the “stay healthy” sentiment—that’s the most important thing of all!
Since we’re no longer working, it’s easier for us to avoid contact with others. Since the pandemic began, I’ve been shopping more selectively and less frequently, and we’ve built up some supplies at home in case we ever have to quarantine.
We’ve all had our boosters—the whole family—and they’re the only people we see occasionally, most recently at Christmas.
But I have to admit that this complete upheaval in our lives is pretty exhausting. My husband underwent major surgery in 2020, followed by numerous complications, and thanks to the pandemic, that came with many hurdles—I wasn’t even allowed to visit him in the ICU at first; it wasn’t until later that visitors were briefly permitted back in the
hospital. By the fall of ’21, he was well enough that we took a chance and flew off on vacation so he could finally recover there in a better climate. But then he took a bad fall while we were there, and Omicron didn’t make the return trip any easier either—and now he can’t leave the house at all, so in that sense, COVID isn’t really getting in the way (gallows humor, I know).
I had two surgeries last year; luckily, everything went smoothly, but it was a real organizational challenge.
Now—aside from the all-important health—I sometimes just wish for a completely normal day from my old life, the kind where nothing was going on and you’d sit on the balcony with a glass of wine until the wee hours, watching the stars twinkle, because you just couldn’t get tired.
Exactly, stay healthy, everyone. Thank God, the virus has so far passed my family and me by, and no one has caught it. We’re doing what Veronika does: shopping purposefully and stocking up on supplies just in case. My husband and I are both retired, so we don’t have to go out every day anymore. But I’m really noticing again how much this whole situation is wearing me down and getting me down at times, because going for walks isn’t that easy for me either. There’s nowhere nearby where it would be nice to walk, because unfortunately, I can’t go through the woods with my walker over rough terrain where I’m sure I wouldn’t run into anyone. On top of that, the accessible forest paths are constantly soggy from the rain and therefore not passable. So we just sit at home and flatten our backsides—thank goodness there are hobbies like ours that can help us pass the time quite pleasantly.
Corona was here… my daughter (who lives at home) caught it—just a mild cold (now she has the certificate 😊). She had it at the beginning of the year and says she got off to a “positive” start to the New Year 😁. Junior had COVID-19 too—when? He took the antigen test and had enough antibodies, so he’d had it before and didn’t even notice 😊—now he has the certificate too 😁. We also had colds (cough, runny nose, headaches...) and the test always came back negative....
Two of my daughters also had COVID-19 in their households—at the older one’s place, everyone had mild cold symptoms and the test came back positive... at the other one’s place, her husband tested positive and had a cold, while she tested negative, though she also had a cold... We only take the test because we’ll then have the certificate....
Now, we hope, everything will be abolished.... and we’ll be able to live freely again 😊 without coercion (certificate)
Personally, I’ve been lucky enough to be spared (I haven’t even had to quarantine), but unfortunately, I’ve also seen a different side of it among the people around me.
After more than a year, my in-laws still haven’t fully regained their sense of taste and smell.
My best friend, her husband, my grandma, my mom... none of them have been affected themselves yet, but they’ve lost friends or relatives to the disease.
A coworker of mine has been out of commission for over a week now...
So I’d gladly do without it... And I hope that it will “end” someday...
Take care of yourselves, and I wish you all a wonderful day! :)
Hi everyone,
I just need to vent a little. Last Monday, I was told that my employment is being terminated as of March 31. My position is being eliminated... it’s a bummer, but there’s nothing I can do about it. It all started over the weekend when Anton’s eyes were watering and he came down with a mild cold. Yesterday morning, his eyes were completely crusted shut, so we went to the doctor... conjunctivitis, and then last night he developed a fever too. He slept from 5 p.m. yesterday until 8 a.m. this morning.
This morning, his eyes were already looking better thanks to the eye drops. But he’s coughing a lot. Since my parents were planning to come over, we took a test just to be safe... and what can I say... his came back negative... mine came back positive.
Luckily, I’ve only had very mild symptoms so far. We’ll see how things go. Anton is worrying me... he has a fever again and he’s suffering.
He was sooo sweet at lunchtime today. I’m just walking around here wearing a mask right now. I explained it to him, and he hugged me and said: “I love you even with Corona.”
Isn’t that sweet????
Anyway, he’s fallen asleep again, and I’m using the time to tidy up a bit
Get well soon to you and Anton, Sandra.
You will find a new job.
Of course, you can also start selling patterns here on Crazypatterns. Your handmade items always look great.
Oh Sandra, that doesn’t sound good at all. Get well soon to you and Anton.
That little guy already knows how lucky he is to have his mom, and he’s cheering her up. So sweet of him.
It’s a bummer about your job, of course. Just canceled like that? Did they at least offer you something else?
I’m keeping my fingers crossed that everything will be okay.
Things turned out really badly with my job. My supervisor, who’s been there forever, has become very seriously ill and probably won’t be able to continue in her current role. So she’s taking my part-time position, and they’re looking for a full-time employee. She’s been with the company for a very long time, and of course they won’t let her go. I’ve only been there since November, so that’s why I have to leave.
Because of Anton, I can only work 20 hours a week. My husband travels too much for that. And the position would also be much more demanding, with managing staff and so on.
I hope you both get well soon, and I wish you the best of luck in your job search. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you! Our daughters’ partners also had to look for new jobs—one is already back at work, and the other has signed a contract. We don’t know yet what’s next for our daughter after her maternity leave.
I wish everyone who’s sick a speedy recovery, and to the rest of you, stay healthy.
After losing a dear uncle to COVID a year ago, my “daughter-in-law” has now been hit hard by the virus. She’s a preschool teacher and got infected at the daycare center. Unfortunately, the booster shot hadn’t taken effect yet. Now she’s still having trouble breathing and has severe myocarditis. She can barely walk more than five steps. She’s been ordered to take it absolutely easy for the next three months.
Sandra, that’s the problem when you have a child. My daughter had applied for a part-time position because of Greta (age 3). The boss wanted her as a substitute because she’d been self-employed before. Of course, that’s not possible. Now she’s found another job with a 25-hour workweek, and everyone there is very child-friendly. I’m sure you’ll find something suitable soon, too.
so far we had been spared, but now I’ve received the test result. Positive - COVID, which means quarantine, staying home. Despite the booster and all precautions.
Considering the circumstances, I’m doing okay, but I have really bad back pain and little appetite. A little while ago I wrapped myself in a blanket and enjoyed some fresh air on the balcony. Pretty windy, but it did me a bit of good.
Now I have to wait for the health department to contact me.
I’ve already let work know. This whole thing is no fun.
stay healthy, everyone, and wishing a speedy recovery to those who are sick too.
Oh, Andrea, I’m so sorry. I hope you get well soon and that things don’t turn out too badly.
My cold, though it’s really bad, is probably just a common cold. All my COVID-19 tests have come back negative so far.
Oh Andrea, that’s not good. I hope you get well soon and that it doesn’t turn out too badly. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that there won’t be any lasting effects.
Hang in there!
Best regards
Marlies
I hope you get well soon, too. Take good care of yourself.
I’m on day 7 today and still have severe throat and muscle pain.
Interestingly, I haven’t (yet) infected my husband or Anton. Childcare is a challenge. Since Anton isn’t allowed to go to daycare, he’s constantly buzzing around me and wants to be entertained. Right now he’s building with Legos. We’ll see how long that lasts 😃
I, too, wish a speedy recovery to all those suffering from COVID-19, those who have recovered but are still dealing with aftereffects, and everyone else who is ill. The sun is shining especially for you today to lift your spirits. You’ll be back on your feet soon. Until then, be good and don’t overexert yourselves. Make sure to eat well, get plenty of vitamins—especially vitamin D—and stay patient and hopeful. We’re thinking of you, and soon you’ll be not only getting out of bed but also picking up your knitting and crochet needles again. Until then…
Oh no, now it’s even caught up with my dad, who has a heart condition :(
Apparently he’s doing okay—he’s just laid up, but it’s not too serious.
He said that now, in isolation, he can at least watch the Olympics in peace without having to go to work :P
I hope it stays a mild case...
I wish everyone else all the best and good health! :)
Oh man Andrea, you caught this crap just one day after me. Is it slowly getting better for you? I feel like I’m actually getting worse again. I took another test today. It’s still positive.
Tina: all the best to your father. It’s nice that he sees it somewhat positively and is watching the Olympics. We often do that too. Anton likes luge and bobsledding best 😃
Oh Sandra, I also feel like things are getting worse instead of better. But I guess we just have to get through this now.
I barely slept last night. The back pain is now radiating down into my legs, so I don’t know how to lie down, sit, or sleep. Everything’s tingling.
I try hula-hooping every now and then—just to move differently; maybe it’ll help. A quick break, then back to it. At least it takes my mind off things.
My husband is slowly starting to get a sore throat, too. I wonder what’s going to happen next.
My dad has already sent us some fruit.
We’ve finally found a family doctor, too. No other practice was taking on new patients. It’s kind of sad.
Tina, I hope your dad gets well soon.
Warmest regards from our home quarantine. Everyone else, stay healthy so that we sick folks can enjoy your creations—it’s sure to speed up the healing process, too. :-)
May everyone who’s sick recover quickly and fully! *fingers crossed*
And may everyone else not even catch it in the first place!
I went to the optometrist yesterday to get my eyes checked. He was running around his shop without a mask. He’s 70 and diabetic—I just don’t get it. I was supposed to take mine off too, but I refused to do so as long as he wasn’t wearing one. I still felt uneasy, though, since he’d been talking into the room the whole time without one… And there were no windows in the exam room. That was no good for my hypochondriac fears, phew.
