Bakery, Part 4.

No, Petra, the waffles are sweet. It’s a simple basic recipe enhanced with bitter almond flavoring and cinnamon. Dr. Oetker has a dessert mix for cheese and cream. With quark, it tastes like a cheese-cream cake. It went very well with the waffles.
When I’m with my husband, I often have to resort to these kinds of “pre-packaged mixes” because, of course, he doesn’t have everything in the house that I usually use.

I baked some waffles today. They’re served with a cheese-and-cream quark topping.

Yarn Swap Package No. 1/2022 is on its way

I’m on the edge of my seat with you all until I can finally unpack my package.

It’s great that the “rescheduling” worked out so well. I couldn’t have left my husband here alone. On Friday night into Saturday, I thought he was going to die right in front of me. He could barely walk or stand on his own.
But now we’ve had the first bit of reassurance. It’s not that dreaded “C-word” again. We’ll know for sure on the 20th, when the urologist’s test results come in.
He’s still pretty weak right now, but he’s on the mend.
Normally, he’s not allowed to mention my name to our kids, but he told both of them that he would have passed away without their mother and that I’ll be staying here with him for the time being.
Wow, miracles do happen.

Have fun with the swap, everyone.

Best regards, Marlies

Corona

I wish everyone who’s sick a speedy recovery, and to the rest of you, stay healthy.

After losing a dear uncle to COVID a year ago, my “daughter-in-law” has now been hit hard by the virus. She’s a preschool teacher and got infected at the daycare center. Unfortunately, the booster shot hadn’t taken effect yet. Now she’s still having trouble breathing and has severe myocarditis. She can barely walk more than five steps. She’s been ordered to take it absolutely easy for the next three months.

Sandra, that’s the problem when you have a child. My daughter had applied for a part-time position because of Greta (age 3). The boss wanted her as a substitute because she’d been self-employed before. Of course, that’s not possible. Now she’s found another job with a 25-hour workweek, and everyone there is very child-friendly. I’m sure you’ll find something suitable soon, too.

Best regards, Marlies

New shoes and a bed for Kruemel

Those two are just adorable, Andrea. And such a lovely little bed—great.
Somehow, I’m slowly starting to feel like I want a baby doll too...

I’m already looking forward to your twins, Monika.

My little sister used to have a boy-and-girl doll pair. I can still remember that shopping trip with horror (it must have been about 50 years ago). My dad bellowed loudly through the store, “kiek mol, dor is een lütten Düdel an” (look, it’s got a little willy).
Goodness, was that embarrassing for me (age 15).

Right now, I can’t quite keep up with reading everything. You’re all so hardworking.

Christina, that’s a great gift. She’ll definitely be very happy with it.

I haven’t been able to get anything done because I’ve been so busy taking care of someone who’s sick. I’ve started a few projects, but I’m just lacking the time and peace and quiet right now.

Have a wonderful weekend and stay healthy.

Best regards

Yarn Swap Package No. 1/2022 is on its way

Dear friends,
I want to thank you all so much (also on behalf of my husband).
We had a really rough night. I picked up some new medication today. If that doesn’t help, I’ll take him to the hospital, even if he resists.
I’m completely exhausted.

Monika, that slipover looks really cute.

Steffi, I’m so happy for you. Knitting or crocheting for babies is always something special.

Warm regards
Marlies

Yarn Swap Package No. 1/2022 is on its way

Hello dear yarn swappers,
Sending you all warm greetings from the Altes Land. My husband has fallen ill, so I can’t drive home. He’s having the same symptoms as before his cancer surgery. We’ll see what the doctor says on Tuesday. I’m pretty nervous.

You’ve already picked out some beautiful yarn, so now I’m looking forward to it even more.

Have a wonderful day and stay healthy.

Warm regards
Marlies

That Cupid turned out so cute, Ruth.

I use those pom-pom thingies with the little feet too. I also got a metal pack from an acquaintance, but haven’t done anything with it yet.

Your stitch stoppers are handy, Anja, and that yarn color is really gorgeous.

Marion, your tunic turned out chic.

Ines, that was exactly the liqueur. I’d never heard of it before and was very skeptical. But I wanted to give it a try anyway. The birthday boy was happy that I liked his concoction.

It’s blowing really hard here and raining again. A day for cozying up on the sofa, but unfortunately, the mood here has taken a turn for the worse. I dared to have my own opinion. Big mistake.

I wish you all a peaceful weekend without any storm damage.

Sonja, get well soon, everyone!

Monika, I really like your color combination.

We stopped by briefly today for an 80th birthday party. They served a Spanish liqueur mixed with milk. It was, contrary to expectations, very tasty.

We had bright sunshine all day today. It was really unusual. Now let’s wait and see what the storm/hurricane brings.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend. Take care.

Bakery, Part 4.

Your rolls and cakes look very, very appetizing. I’m going to bake again in the next few days. I’m still torn between a quark cake and an apple cake. Maybe I’ll just make both...grin.
I can already hear my husband groaning, “Who’s going to eat all that?” and then he’s the one who ends up devouring it.

January Projects 2022, Part 2: the Crazypatterns Handicraft Group

We don’t have mice in the bird feeder here, but a tiny little one always climbs up the tree and chews through the net around the suet balls. My husband always wondered why those things kept falling down until he spotted the little mouse.

Christina, your cuddly bunnies turned out super cute!

Steffi, a second dragon—kudos for that.

Monika, after the little dog was unwrapped with a cry of “Oh, a little Frieda,” the big Frieda naturally came over to sniff around. She was just about to grab the little one, but her owner scolded her: “No, Frieda, don’t take it—just sniff it; that’s mine.” But to make it up to her, I had some treats in my jacket pocket. You can always lure Frieda with those. My boyfriend was super happy, and even my usually critical husband thought the little one was great and cute.

When the rain stopped at noon, we were still out in the garden—despite a light storm—trimming the spent hydrangea blooms, because they’re already budding like crazy. A hyacinth is already peeking out, and lots of crocuses are starting to pop up. The green of the grape hyacinths is growing vigorously.
Now the storm is really picking up.

Have a lovely evening.
Warm regards from the Altes Land.
Marlies

Ruth, your embroidered picture is simply amazing!

I’ve finally finished my puppy. Tomorrow I’m driving to Altes Land, and there I’ll give it to my neighbor and dear friend. I think the little one goes so well with his Frieda, at least that’s what I think.

Lunar Calendar: Does It Affect Crafting?

The moon has a major influence on every aspect of our lives.

I take the moon phases into account for many things, and it’s worked out very well for me so far. I don’t tackle difficult projects during unfavorable moon phases.

That’s why I do believe that the lunar calendar also influences our crafts and how we approach them.

We also had the “tail problem” when we wanted to dress up our forum bear, Kuddel. A friend had tried to sew him a pair of pants but had to give up. So I knitted him a pair of pants with an opening for his little tail.

We created stories and photo galleries featuring our little Kuddel and shared them in the newspaper forum. That was really fun.

You’ve run out of yarn: what do you do?

Normally, I only start a project once I have the yarn on hand.

If it does happen, though, it’s not the end of the world (unless it’s a commissioned piece or a gift that needs to be finished).

I love music and have a wide selection at home. I also have a large collection of books. Then there are thousands of photos that need to be labeled and sorted. Last but not least, there’s a big box of construction paper sitting on the cabinet, waiting to be turned into window decorations.

Why are post double crochet stitches so popular? Can you use them to crochet cuffs too?

An acquaintance of mine used them a lot, especially for children’s sweaters. I guess that keeps them from stretching out so quickly.

Personally, I’m not a big fan of post double crochet stitches, even though I think the pattern looks nice.

What would make you write more reviews? What would help?

I can only review something that I’ve actually completed. Unless we only review the purchased pattern first and then provide an update plus a photo once the project is finished.

In my case, there are many patterns that I’ve bought and then either didn’t make after all or haven’t made yet. Quite a few of them probably won’t be completed at all for various reasons.

What should I do?

You could crochet flowers with colorful yarn and use them for a door wreath or a pillow. Or you could hang them on strings as a curtain or drape. You can also turn the flowers into a brooch or use them to embellish a fabric bag in a matching color. Lots of colorful granny squares make a great pillow or table runner.
A small Styrofoam ring crocheted with variegated yarn and topped with a matching bow is also an eye-catcher. You can also use balls crocheted with this yarn for string curtains.
There are so many possibilities, so don’t be upset about your purchase.
