What should I do?

Hello

I don’t know if anyone can help me, but I bought some different yarns (100, 10, 5) (so more for filet crochet) that are variegated in color … kind of ombre-like … I liked them so much.

Now I crocheted a sample with one of these yarns, but it looks really silly.
You can’t make out the pattern at all; what a shame after all that work.

Now my question:
what can you crochet with yarns like this?

I’d be very happy about any info ;-)

Best wishes

Why don’t you try making some really simple coasters without a complicated pattern? The mottled effect should look pretty good on those.

I could imagine making simple granny squares with them.

Since I can’t really picture what this yarn looks like. Just as a reference—what hook size do you use for this yarn?

Do you mean a yarn this thin? I bought some like that at a flea market once, too, because I liked it so much.

Hi,

thanks Ruthk, that might work… now I just need some patterns for it. ;-)

@wollwunder Petra:
Hook size: 1.25–2.5

and that was just an experiment that I didn’t really like

Yeah, my yarn was that thin for the pumpkin, too.

Your ribbon turned out pretty, but it would be too busy for me, too. You can’t even tell it’s the Easter bunny at first glance.

Maybe try crocheting around some Easter eggs? I used Catania here, but I can totally picture it with your yarn

That’s a good idea… I hadn’t thought of that yet.
I have the yarn not only in beige-white but also in other colorful shades. I really liked them, but they’re not really good for anything. And I can definitely see that working well for the eggs. 🤔😉👍🏼
There would be a lot of them if I used it all up… definitely 4 skeins of 350m each and two of about 500m 🤦🏽‍♀️😱

So what’s the lesson here… only buy yarn when you know what you’re going to use it for 😉😉

I’m currently working on a hat. It’s a yarn that didn’t come with a label (factory outlet). Now the size doesn’t fit… I’m not doing that again.

Well, I could definitely see them working for butterflies and flowers—take a look…

You could crochet flowers with colorful yarn and use them for a door wreath or a pillow. Or you could hang them on strings as a curtain or drape. You can also turn the flowers into a brooch or use them to embellish a fabric bag in a matching color. Lots of colorful granny squares make a great pillow or table runner.
A small Styrofoam ring crocheted with variegated yarn and topped with a matching bow is also an eye-catcher. You can also use balls crocheted with this yarn for string curtains.
There are so many possibilities, so don’t be upset about your purchase.

Hi

Thanks for the suggestions—I’ll definitely try some of them out.

Something that uses up quite a bit of yarn and also takes a little work are placemats—simply crocheted in double crochet to the size that fits your table. Maybe with or without an openwork border, rectangular or oval. I also crocheted a table runner using thin yarn and just double crochet stitches—it looks very simple under the vase I always have on the table. And coasters—just crochet circles about 9 cm in diameter. You can find a pattern for crocheting a circle on YouTube, too, if you’ve never done it before.

Have fun!
