Hi everyone,

my Luna arrived today.

She’s 55 cm tall and a real ray of sunshine. Now she definitely needs some new clothes, which means it’s time to stop moping and shedding tears and get cracking with the crochet hooks and knitting needles.
I’ve just got a sweater on the needles that I actually knitted for my daughter 45 years ago.
It’s a good thing my old pattern books are still in the closet.
But I’m sure I’ll find some lovely projects among your great patterns, too.
I just haven’t decided yet whether I’m a mom or a grandma… lol.

Best regards
Marlies

P.S.:

She was actually supposed to be a Leonie, but I think she’s more of a Luna. Maybe there’ll be another Leonie soon…
Best regards

Congratulations on your lovely Luna, dear Marlies.

Yes, it’s really fun to get to dress such a little one.
I’m really looking forward to seeing your first creation, which I’m sure you’ll show us.
I hope you have lots of fun with Luna.

Love, Marion

Thank you all so much. I’m really happy.

Since Luna arrived two days earlier than expected, I’m a little behind schedule. There’s still a lot to do. Right now, she’s wearing clothes from my kids.
A few items from the “I’ll-save-that-for-later” box fit her. It’s hard to imagine that all three of them were five and six cm smaller at birth.
I’m knitting away and hope my wrist holds up.
The crib I had planned for her is, of course, too small as well. I’ll have to figure something out there, too.

So sweet.

I’m curious to see what you’ll knit.
I really enjoy dressing the babies from Kindi onward.

I got another one yesterday—tiny and completely naked

Congratulations on the “new addition to the family.” Your Luna is so cute.
I can’t wait to see what you’ll whip up for her to wear.

I hope you have lots of fun with your baby.

Thanks to both of you, too.

The first little sweater (size 62) is finished.

Luna is 55 cm tall. But doll clothes for 55 cm don’t fit her.
I have to make baby clothes in size 62/68 because her soft fabric body makes her a bit chubbier. Especially around the thighs. It’ll probably have to be bloomers.

But it’s so much fun to mix and match old things from my kids with new ones.

Love, Marlies

Marlies, your sweater turned out great. Are those raglan sleeves?

Thanks, Petra. The sweater is worked in one piece and is very stretchy thanks to the simple pattern.
I actually knitted this for my daughter 45 years ago.

Here’s another photo of it in blue—you can see it better that way.

Oh Marlies, I’m totally in love with your Luna. She’s soooo cute!! And I understand you soooo well. It was definitely love at first sight, wasn’t it?

I also really enjoy dressing up my little ones. It’s an addictive hobby—I’ll warn you now. Your Luna probably won’t be the only one. ;-)

My big girl is 60 cm tall—that’s quite a difference from 50 cm. I’m always amazed at how fast babies can grow in those first weeks and months.

Your sweater is absolutely adorable.

Where did you find that little cutie?

Thanks, Monika—with reborn babies, it’s hard to choose. You just want to have them all.
I found my Luna on eBay. I was actually just having a look…
You’re right—she won’t be on her own for long. I’ve already picked out a Leonie. But she’ll only be 28 or 32 cm long.
That’s quite a difference from Luna’s 55 cm.

I’m also eyeing a Niklas—as a twin for Leonie. As you can see, I’ve caught the bug too… haha.

Yes, Marlies, it’s a truly wonderful hobby, and I pursue it with lots of love and enthusiasm. I really shouldn’t even start looking… because then I’d definitely be tempted too. The “doll mom” in me is still very much alive.

28 or 32 cm is already pretty small. I’m so curious to see what arrives for you next.

My twins are 35 cm, and they can talk to each other. It’s sooo cute—I could listen to them and watch them for hours. By now I have four little ones like that, and they’re almost fully dressed.

Then there are the bigger ones at 50 and 46 cm—and the very big one, Paula, at 60 cm. I almost forgot—there’s Lena, too. She’s the one with the pretty little dresses.

You see… there’s no room for more. (grin)

I can totally picture it, Monika. Well, for now, it’s Luna’s turn.
I quickly crocheted her a hat.

You did a great job, Marlies. Luna looks so cute in that hat.

Sleep well!

That’s really cute!
My dolls used to always have hand-knitted or crocheted clothes, too—my mom always made sure of that.
These days I don’t have any dolls at all; I’ve switched to the teddy bear camp—or nooo, I’ve always been there; my dolls always had to share space in the doll carriage with teddy bears, too.

***You see… it doesn’t get any better than this. (grin)***

I’d be careful there—veeeery careful… I’m almost up to three digits with my teddy bears.
But only a few of them wear clothes… hmmmm… maybe I could try that too…
You guys are really giving me some ideas here!

Your Luna is so cute!
She’ll surely bring you a lot of joy. A baby doll has moved in with me, too. She’s 43 cm tall and would love some new outfits….

Thanks, Monika. I’ve since added a little bear hat to the collection.

Veronika, while I was looking for yarn, I found my old teddy bear, which is over 50 years old.
Back then, I had a Pimboli teddy. There were even poems and stories about him, a photo story, and all sorts of other things in the old newspaper forum. It even included an adoption and all the trimmings.

Congratulations, Mel. What’s your little one’s name?

Oh, I see—I’m exactly in the right place here. :))

Marlies, I know Pimboli too—I have a tiny little one. It’s sooo cute.

Mel, how wonderful that you’ve gotten yourself a baby doll now. You’ll definitely show her to us, won’t you?

Oh, Veronika, if only you knew… as a child, I also much preferred playing with teddy bears, and they ended up in the doll stroller too. My mother wasn’t happy about that at all, because she had given me an expensive Schildkröt baby doll. But it was far too stiff for me.

Only now, with all these lovely soft dolls available, am I making up for lost time as a doll mommy. And yes, the teddy bears have just as important a place with me too. Whenever I say, “That’s enough now…” one of those shaggy little fellows looks at me and says, “I really want to come home with you.” How can I say no to that?? …

Of course, I make clothes for all of them, except for a very few. It’s just so much fun, and designing and (mostly) knitting these things is one of my absolute favorite pastimes. I’ve already got quite a bit planned that I’m going to make.

So of course I never get bored. Our living room has turned into a doll and teddy room with a knitting workshop. I’m really grateful to have such an understanding husband. :))

Marlies, she won’t be getting a name.
Monika, I’ll post photos as soon as the first outfit is finished. But that’ll take a while, since I’m still working on another pattern right now.

Well, I’m curious to see, Mel. It’s great to have you back here. I’m really happy about that.

I’ll give you a little peek into the “dollhouse.”

These are the little ones (35 cm)—now a set of four

And these are the big ones (46 and 50 cm). The one sitting on top is still looking for a new home.

By the way.... just a quick note on the topic: this is as big as it gets....

I’ve given in again. A new doll is moving in with me—I just discovered her in my swap group. She’s 60 cm tall, so my Paula won’t be the only one of her size anymore. So my next knitting patterns will be in this size again. After all, she needs some pretty clothes, too.

Now I’m just looking forward to meeting the little one. I just have to figure out how to break the news to my husband… :))

Great, Monika, a new family member will be moving in with me soon too... yay!

She’ll be Luna’s little (35 cm) sister.

Good thing I don’t have to explain it to anyone...

How sweet, Marlies! The little ones at the top of the picture are all 35 cm, too. I still have a few patterns to write up for projects I’ve already finished knitting. And I’ve got a few more things in the works, too.

Luna’s new sweater is finished. My circular knitting needle gave out over the weekend. I had to go buy a replacement today. This is 6-ply yarn. It wasn’t nice to knit with—it kept splitting apart.

The teddy bear hat is new, too.

Oh Marlies, your Luna is soooo cute. She looks just like a real baby. The new clothes look great on her.

I’ve also had a few knitting needles break on me—so far, just the Knit Pro ones. I definitely won’t be buying those again.

My Rosalie arrived today. She’s a real beauty—an artist’s doll by Carmen Gonzalez, with an inscription on the back of her head: name and date 9/1997.

Rosalie is about the same size as your Luna. She measures 57 cm from head to heel. For now, I’ve dressed her in clothes from my stash. But there’s plenty more to come. It’s nice that I now have another in-between size. It’s almost as if we got our new baby girls at the same time. :))

I’ve started a new thread for Rosalie where you can see her too—here:

By the way… my husband was just as excited as I was right away. :)
