How about this? I still have it and use it. It’s just that this little bottle cap doesn’t fit anywhere. It used to be for those little coffee cream bottles.

Thank you so much for your positive feedback.

There are still a few pattern rows left to crochet, but right now it’s the size of a baby blanket. Crocheted with size 3.0 needles.

Exactly, Ina, we secretaries know that. The carbon paper (sometimes purple, too) really stained your hands. The copy sheets were so thin, almost like parchment.

I still remember shorthand (dictation shorthand), too—the pen and the shorthand pad.

Those teletypewriters are gone too; writing on them, with punched tape and punch cards, was part of our training back then.

Changing the ribbon on Optima typewriters.

Spinning tops (toys from the GDR)—they came in different sizes and colors, along with a wooden stick with a string attached. I’d love to try that again sometime.

Diskettes and floppy disks and much more.

Nude swimming at the nudist beach

It’s not quite finished yet, but I couldn’t wait any longer to show it to you.
There are still a few rows left to crochet.

This blanket features waves (the ocean), muffins, strawberries, a sunset, a sandy beach (brown stripes), a checkered tablecloth (center section), and much more.
What do you think of it?

The first thing that comes to mind is my “Flotte Lotte.” Do they even still exist?
I was still using mine in Norway, but then I threw it away because I didn’t have enough space in my moving box.

It was a strainer with a handle, and inside there was a kind of blade attached to a crank. I always used it to make applesauce. Turning the crank would force everything through the strainer.

My beloved bread bag from my childhood days. It was a cult classic. You can only find something like that in the East German Museum now. Leather on the outside, a plastic liner on the inside, and that awesome metal twist clasp with a slit.

Does anyone already know the brand-new crochet pattern with which

My dear husband probably wanted to remind me of our first wedding anniversary with a visit to our greengrocer with an extremely

I’d also like to wish everyone a relaxing weekend, and a speedy recovery to anyone who’s feeling under the weather.

Yeah, the ups and downs of the weather really get to you. I’m having a hard time dealing with it, and so are our residents at the nursing home.
I can’t drink nearly enough to keep up with how much I’m sweating. Then there are these hot flashes—they’re exhausting—plus the stress at work because everyone’s going crazy. Today was another one of those days. A total disaster.

But… starting Monday, I’ll have two weeks of vacation, and I really need it.

Warm evening greetings
Andrea

The only one I can think of right now is the phrase you used when you weren’t very good at knitting yet:

“two purl, two knit, and drop one.”

This morning I was already annoyed when my front doorbell suddenly rang at 7:00 a.m. and then at the same time
my cell phone beeped,

It’s nice that you all still have your poetry treasures.
I had two. One got lost during all the moves, and the second one is nowhere to be found. It’s a shame, really.
It’s especially frustrating about the first album—it had great sayings and little drawings in it.
I’ll have to go through everything again. Maybe I’ll still be able to find it.

Oh my goodness, Ina. Your beautiful harvest. That’s so unfair—those hailstones that came down were huge.
It’s frustrating, but the main thing is that nothing happened to any of you.
We’re powerless against nature, and you’ve put so much love into your garden.
We feel for you.
In the meantime, let today’s yarn swap cheer you up a little.

Sending you a loving hug
Best, Andrea

Dear Ina,
first of all, I’d also like to thank you very much 👏🏼 for organizing this swap. I—and I’m sure everyone else here—always have so much fun “diving into the yarn,” and now these yarn treasures have found a new home with you. That’s great.

The pink yarn—I don’t remember exactly—might have been mine, because it was too thin for me. But it’s just right for your doll fashion projects. I can totally picture it on your dolls as a pretty dress or sweater. I’m excited to see what you’ll knit or crochet for them.

Have fun working with the swap yarn, everyone 🧶

Best wishes
Andrea

Elephants have fun because they try to make funny papier-mâché figures with giant banana leaves for Carnival, using them to

There are so many sayings. Some have a grain of truth to them, some remind us of a carefree childhood, and others are words of wisdom.

Another one that comes to mind is: “Never kill an animal as a joke, for it feels the pain just as you do.”

My parents always used to say to me when I was in school , “You’re not studying for others, but for yourself, for your own life.”

“Don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today.”

Another poetic saying comes to mind: “Be modest and humble—that is the finest adornment; then everyone will like you, and that is what I wish for you.”

Yay, the yarn package has made its rounds, and we’re all eagerly waiting for Ina to unwrap the “yarn surprise” and for colorful yarn to rain down. It’s going to be fun.

So, dear Ina, have fun “bathing in yarn”😍😍😍

Marion, I like the upper part of the pattern better. That was a good solution.
Petra, what a great idea to embroider the signatures. That’s a beautiful, lasting memory. Really great.

Oh dear, I still have UFOs sitting in my box, too. It’ll be a while before they get to “land.”

Have a great start to the week, everyone!
Best, Andrea

Make your own cream dessert

Hi there, everyone

I have the day off. That means it’s the weekend , and the sun is shining—clear skies, but pleasantly cool, not too warm.
I’ll either keep crocheting my blanket or we’ll put up a shelf. I still need to make a birthday card for a resident’s granddaughter (for her 3rd birthday).
So I won’t be bored.

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone, doing whatever you enjoy.

When I left for work, it was pouring rain, but by the time I got off work in the evening, it had stopped, and the sun came out again. Finally, some fresh air and a bit of wind—it’s nice.

My dad always used to say to us: “Get in line, but don’t act stupid.”
And my mom always said: “Anyone who spells ‘nämlich’ with an extra ‘h’ is stupid.”

Cardboard from notepads, calendars, etc. can be reused. For example, as a sole insert for crocheted figures or to stabilize the base of crocheted or knitted items (storage baskets)

Forest walks in the shade with a picnic

Such a great selection, Petra. I would have liked that too, the pink and the yellow-orange yarn.
So funny with your packaging skills. I’m always amazed at how the package has survived all of that. This time it was really exciting: how will the package arrive, and which yarn will change hands?
Now it’s Ina’s turn, and everyone is surely eagerly waiting for her feedback. What yarn treasures will arrive at her place?

hope you all have a pleasant rest of the week

P.S. We had strong winds, lightning, thunder, and rain, but luckily the big storm passed us by.

Wow, Inge, it’s amazing what a wide selection you have.
Personally, I like the top one with the sailboat best. It reminds me of vacation, sun, beach, and the ocean. And the one with the little beetle, too.

I like forum games, too, and I’m in. Telling stories is great.

But I noticed that the last story-based forum game somehow didn’t really go anywhere—which is a shame, actually.

Have fun giving the yarn a bath.

What a great idea. Personally, I like the top pattern best.
The bottom pattern might be thicker because of the post double crochet, if I’m looking at it right.
I’m sure you’ll let us know how it goes :-)

Once again, Inge has amazed us with her great ideas. I think it’s a really lovely idea to sew a pretty keepsake pouch out of these openwork fabrics. They turned out so great.
Your daughters will surely be thrilled.

I’ve never heard of a “memory teddy” before. The things people come up with.

I actually have a “memory blouse” at home because I once sewed a short blouse (that ties in the front) out of my favorite nightgown. To this day, I still don’t know how I managed to pull that off. It even has a collar and buttonholes.
I’ll have to dig it out sometime and take a picture.

I always admire your work, Inge, and your perseverance.
No pain, no gain. Awesome

Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend.
We had some pretty intense thunder and lightning here yesterday, along with a downpour. This morning there was endless fog and it was cool (pleasant), and around noon the sun finally came out.

We wanted to check out the Havel Festival, but I was sooooo tired after work that I fell asleep on the couch.
I’ll probably work on my crochet blanket for a bit, then maybe watch some TV and check the forum, and then it’ll be bedtime again.

Have a nice evening, everyone!

Wow, Claudia , look at all the things you’re making. Your fountain looks amazing.
I didn’t know you could sculpt with concrete either. It sounds like a lot of work, and there’s so much to keep in mind. That wouldn’t be for me—besides, I already have so many hobbies; I wouldn’t be able to manage it all.

But kudos for your great work👍. The doorstop is awesome. The ideas you come up with! It looks great—I could totally see it in my apartment.
What an eye-catcher.

Everyone else is hard at work too, of course, and I admire every new creation that’s made and shared here.
I’ve got a bunch of unfinished projects lying around as well. Maybe I’ll manage to finish a few of them on vacation.☺

Oh, this is so funny here. I had to laugh soooo much about Veronika’s “sticky box.”
It really is a miracle that this thing held up for so long.

You’ve got some very lovely yarn treasures there, Veronika. I would have had my eye on that purple sparkly yarn too. It could become a pretty shawl or a summer scarf. I’m excited to see.

But most of all, I’m curious to see what arrives in Ina’s package.
It has been on the road for a while already. This time it feels soooo long to me, maybe because I was the first one who got to open the package.

Have a lovely weekend, everyone

P.S. here where we live, the Havelfest is on this weekend with performances by “Muck,” Linda Feller, Lippi...a Ferris wheel, dragon boat races (some of our colleagues are rowing there too)
and I have to work. Maybe my husband and I will go take a look after work if I’m not too tired. I’d like to know who won.

Get well soon, Christina.
So you’re on a forced break, and without a fridge to boot, with these temperatures. Oh dear.
That’s not good at all.
We’re all keeping our fingers crossed that you’ll be back on your feet soon.

Cool gadget.
Someone's gotta keep things cool, after all 😀

I’d also like to add my very best belated birthday wishes.
I just read about it here. Hope you had a wonderful day.

Hugs, Andrea

Hi there, my dear yarn mice,

it’s time to check in here again, and just like that, some great balls of yarn have landed with someone again.
It’s really interesting to see all the different kinds of wool/yarn there are.

Personally, I can’t keep up with working through it all anymore either. I’m still working on the crochet blanket. I have another vacation in July, so I can get crafting again,
but today I’m meeting a former colleague in town for coffee/ice cream. That has to happen sometimes too. We haven’t seen each other in over a year.

Have a great day, everyone, and be careful in the heat because of the fire risk.

P.S. yesterday there was a fire near my aunt’s garden. The whole embankment by the railway line was in flames, lots of smoke came over to us, and several fire engines came to put it out. We saw the flames blazing. It was no joke. And there was wind too.

Hi Claudia,

Warmest birthday wishes to you today. Have a wonderful day surrounded by your loved ones.

Best wishes, Craft Fan

Oh dear, hail too. The weather seems to be doing whatever it wants everywhere.
It’s sweltering here—it’s supposed to get over 30 degrees tomorrow. That’ll knock all the residents out again. We work on the 4th floor of the nursing home, and the heat up there is unbearable.
Luckily, I’m on the early shift, so it’s still manageable.

It’s not a holiday here.

To everyone else, have a good rest and a nice evening

You’ve all been hard at work again, and some lovely things have come out of it.
I really like such delicate pieces. Hats off to your perseverance.

I’m still working on the crocheted blanket. It’s “growing.” I’ll be able to show it to you soon.

Some lovely yarn treasures have landed with you. It’s a relief that everything turned out well, the package didn’t get lost, and you were finally able to browse through it.
It’s amazing that you all already have your yarn projects in mind. I’m excited to see them.

The pink yarn and the yellow one would have been my colors, too.
I can easily imagine making a teddy bear out of the fluffy yarn.

It’s really fun to follow this package and admire the new treasures here.

Have fun working with them, Renate

Best wishes, Andrea

Oh dear, I hope everyone who’s sick gets well soon. Good luck finding a doctor, and Anja, best of luck with your knit and purl stitches

Best regards, Andrea

So many blooms—it looks absolutely amazing, Ina. A real eye-catcher in your garden. How big is it, anyway? It looks pretty big.
Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful snapshot with us.
How’s the fish pond doing, by the way?
