Does anyone know any mnemonic rhymes for knitting?

I’ve been trying for a while now to remember a mnemonic that I was taught as a child to help me learn how to hold the yarn when casting on.
It went something like this: “The snake went into the forest, around the trees, and back again.”

Does anyone know any other knitting mnemonics?

I don’t know any mnemonic rhymes for knitting.

But my grandma always used to say to me while I was embroidering: “Long thread, lazy girl.”

I always cut my thread extra long so I wouldn’t have to weave in ends at the beginning and end. But of course, that meant I kept getting lots of knots in it. And by the end, my thread had gotten really thin and looked messy.

Unfortunately, I don’t know any either.
Plus, my mom taught me the “endless cast-on” back then.

“If there’s no more yarn left on the ball—you’d better start with a new one!”

We try to help our kids learn to knit (knit stitches) using the following rhyme:
“Inestäche, umeschlo, dürezie und abelo”—or in plain English: insert the needle, wrap the yarn around the needle, pull the yarn through, and let it slide off the needle. That’s how my grandmother taught me…

The only one I can think of right now is the phrase you used when you weren’t very good at knitting yet:

“two purl, two knit, and drop one.”

Now that you mention it, Andrea—I know that rhyme, too.

Years ago, I wrote down a saying my aunt used to try to make the right- and left-leaning increases from the strand between stitches easier for me.

I left the front door open, because I’m back in time.

It didn’t help me, though.
