Dear Sabine,

I would have loved for your new treasures to make it to me as well. Beautiful new yarn! The white cotton is perfect for a summer project—it doesn’t get any better than that! And the color play in the multicolored yarn already looks promising right there in the skein. I hope you enjoy your new treasures.

Best regards, Ina

Sabine, you’ve made a lovely selection. I’m glad my colorful yarn found a new home so quickly. I got it myself from a swap package, but it wouldn’t have been enough for my own projects. So I passed it along.

I was also tempted by the white and purple yarn, but since I don’t have a use for it right now, I dutifully passed it on. Lucky for you.

I’m also curious to see what you’ll make with your needles.

Kind regards
Monika

Nice selection, Sabine. I would have kept the purple yarn, too.
I’m looking forward to seeing your Olaf.

Great selection! How big is Olaf supposed to be? That’s quite a lot of white yarn, isn’t it?

I have to ask a really silly question: what is an Olaf? Everything here seems to be about Karls right now. Is Olaf Karl’s brother? :-))

Best regards and wishing you a sunny afternoon, Ina

Hello everyone, thank you for sharing in the joy.
I’ve already crocheted Olaf using thinner cotton yarn, and he turned out 18 cm tall.
Now the yarn is a bit thicker, so I’m hoping for a nice size. I wasn’t sure how much yarn I’d need, so I played it safe. Maybe there will even be two ;0)
The second one can then be called Karl, although these days, with the name Karl, almost everyone thinks of those beautiful knitted sweaters...

@Monika, yes, the yarn really wanted to stay. I like the feel and the colors. If it’s not enough for a sweater, my granddaughter will surely be happy with a hat and scarf, or we’ll see....

Sabine, I especially liked the colorful yarn because it has a high percentage of virgin wool, and I also love the color. I’m sure you’ll make something really beautiful out of it for your granddaughter, and she’ll love snuggling up in it.

I just discovered this chat. The swap parcel is a great idea.
Can I still join in? And if so, how?
I’d have to give someone my mailing address, after all....

Dear Ulrike,

the current swap package is currently on its way. Unfortunately, you can’t join in anymore. But of course, you’re welcome to follow along in this thread.

For the next swap package, you’ll just need to keep an eye out for when I start a new one. I always announce it here in the forum a few days in advance. Then anyone who’d like to participate can sign up. I’ll let you know everything else via private message.

Until it’s your turn, you’ll just have to be patient and share in the excitement with the others.

Best regards, Ina

Hi everyone, I sent the package right away on Tuesday after the Pentecost weekend, and it was delivered on Thursday. Renate hadn’t received anything, and a check with Hermes revealed that a neighbor had accepted it on her behalf. I was able to let Renate know about this on Saturday, but I haven’t heard back from her yet.  She still hasn’t picked it up despite my follow-up message on Saturday evening... I hope this gets sorted out.
Best regards, Sabine

Me too 🍀—it would be annoying if it had gone missing. We always get a note in our mailbox saying which neighbor it was delivered to. I always have mine delivered to the parcel shop. Fingers crossed 💫

Hi everyone,
after a long search, the package has finally arrived! I’m so glad it didn’t get lost! Hermes had delivered it to my neighbor (in the house next door!) without leaving a notice. But she was working the night shift over the weekend and didn’t know that no notice had been left for me.
Well, now it’s here and I can rummage through the treasures 😁😁😁.
Tomorrow morning I’ll send photos of my “haul.” There’s sooooo much great yarn in there!
Best regards,
Renate

Somehow, there must be a pesky little bug in this package...😉

The neighbor’s house— that’s still okay. I once got a notice saying, “Package is at the neighbor’s...” Great, except the name was barely legible and nobody knew who it was. After running around and asking a lot of people, I found him one street over. When I went to pick up the package, the guy snapped at me, asking what I was thinking, sending my packages to him. A real charmer.

Have fun browsing through the yarn.😉

It wasn’t easy for me to choose, but I’ve finally decided on this beautiful yarn. And I already have a project in mind for each color 😊
The purple and pink will become cardigans for my grandchildren, and the yellow and orange will probably be summer tops for me.
Now the package, restocked, can make the next yarn friend happy.

Some lovely yarn treasures have landed with you. It’s a relief that everything turned out well, the package didn’t get lost, and you were finally able to browse through it.
It’s amazing that you all already have your yarn projects in mind. I’m excited to see them.

The pink yarn and the yellow one would have been my colors, too.
I can easily imagine making a teddy bear out of the fluffy yarn.

It’s really fun to follow this package and admire the new treasures here.

Have fun working with them, Renate

Oh dear, Renate, now I’m at a loss for advice… you squeezed everything in with such effort, and then the note decided to stay outside after all. Well, I’m sure you’ve solved the problem by now :-)

It’s great that you found so much yarn for yourself. The wait was definitely worth it, and now your new projects are lining up for you.

I hope you enjoy your new treasures.

I’m not going to unpack it anymore. The package is practically held together by tape anyway 😅. The easiest thing to do is just to send the list by regular mail.

So, dear Anja, please don’t be surprised when you get a letter from me, too.

It’s really exciting following along with you, and you’ve chosen some beautiful yarn. I especially love that almost all of you already know what you want to make with it—I’m usually the type who first “has to have” the yarn and then figures out what to do with it.

Hi,
what bad luck—I didn’t make it to the swap package again—I just can’t keep up anymore;
I don’t have much time for the computer right now (because I’m so busy knitting 😇). I’ve also made a list of
what I want to make with which yarn, and somehow the yarn keeps piling up—I can’t keep up with knitting it all up 🤔
I also have about 10 😲 UFOs right now, because I always want to see right away if the yarn or color combo works 🙄, and then spontaneous “gifts” often get in the way, which then have to be finished in time for a birthday, for example 😉 (I think I should quit my job so I’d have enough time for my hobby 😂).

Have fun with your swap yarn—I’d love to see what you pick out or what you create with it

Hi, everyone 🎉, Hermes came by and delivered a package with a lot of tape and some cardboard reinforcement. I need to find the opening first and unpack it carefully 😚. I’ll take a photo afterward. Choosing what to keep definitely won’t be easy. The swap yarn is already ready to go. Stay curious! 🐑
Warm regards from Anja

Okay, I’m all set. I’ve received a few nice little items—I’ll be making something for the head and neck out of them. For the rest of the journey and also for the next swap package😉, I treated us to a vacuum-sealing bag. That made it much easier to pack and seal everything. And it definitely weighs more than 7 kg now—I packed it really full😚—so don’t be surprised. I’ll probably stop by the gas station tonight to drop it off, or else tomorrow morning.
Best wishes from Anja

I did a quick Google search, and it always says that you should wash silk—no matter what kind—with silk detergent and at low temperatures (maximum 30°C).

I hope that helps.

Hi, everyone,
Which one of you actually donated the mulberry silk with the glitter? Thank you so much for wrapping it up!
Would you mind telling me where you ordered this yarn (you can send me a private message if you’d prefer)? Maybe I can get some more information there. It’s no problem for me that there wasn’t a manufacturer’s label on it—I enjoy doing my own research💫

Hi there, my dear yarn mice,

it’s time to check in here again, and just like that, some great balls of yarn have landed with someone again.
It’s really interesting to see all the different kinds of wool/yarn there are.

Personally, I can’t keep up with working through it all anymore either. I’m still working on the crochet blanket. I have another vacation in July, so I can get crafting again,
but today I’m meeting a former colleague in town for coffee/ice cream. That has to happen sometimes too. We haven’t seen each other in over a year.

Have a great day, everyone, and be careful in the heat because of the fire risk.

P.S. yesterday there was a fire near my aunt’s garden. The whole embankment by the railway line was in flames, lots of smoke came over to us, and several fire engines came to put it out. We saw the flames blazing. It was no joke. And there was wind too.

All done! And quickly, too! Right now I’m not wine-happy, I’m wool-happy!
But this package really is a challenge! 🤣 The vacuum-sealed bag is a great idea—it saves space. Otherwise, the only thing that helps is plenty of body weight!

Wow, Veronika, what beautiful yarn you’ve chosen. I’m sure I would have kept the purple yarn, too. Yes, the box is really more plastic than cardboard now, but the main thing is that it holds up. I’m sure Ina wouldn’t have guessed that the box would end up back with her. We’ve all mastered the challenge. Perfect!

Now I’m really curious to see what treasures will end up with Ina. The suspense is building... :))

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!

So, the package is on its way again. However, it could only be sent as an L-sized package. I admit that I didn’t measure it again myself after sealing it—according to the measuring tape at the Hermes store, size L was correct, and I didn’t feel like repacking it and squeezing it down, so I just let it go on its way.
But Petra might have to really throw herself on it 🤣 and maybe wrap it more tightly; it’s already bulging out a little on the sides.

Yes, the red and light gray yarn has a really beautiful sheen, and the gradient yarn has glitter—it really caught my eye. We’ll see what I end up making with it.
There are some other really great things in the package, but I didn’t have any more yarn to swap. So, happy browsing and enjoy the yarn!

Great! We’re all set with the yarn, and we’re handling little hurdles like conquering a mountain of yarn with ease. You described that very humorously, dear Veronika. Yes, you do have to put in a little physical effort :-)

You also found a few new treasures. So the effort was definitely worth it. Now it’s off to Wollwunderpetra first, and then to me. The excitement is building.

I wish you all a relaxing Friday afternoon.
Warm regards, Ina

Oh, this is so funny here. I had to laugh soooo much about Veronika’s “sticky box.”
It really is a miracle that this thing held up for so long.

You’ve got some very lovely yarn treasures there, Veronika. I would have had my eye on that purple sparkly yarn too. It could become a pretty shawl or a summer scarf. I’m excited to see.

But most of all, I’m curious to see what arrives in Ina’s package.
It has been on the road for a while already. This time it feels soooo long to me, maybe because I was the first one who got to open the package.

Have a lovely weekend, everyone

P.S. here where we live, the Havelfest is on this weekend with performances by “Muck,” Linda Feller, Lippi...a Ferris wheel, dragon boat races (some of our colleagues are rowing there too)
and I have to work. Maybe my husband and I will go take a look after work if I’m not too tired. I’d like to know who won.

Hi everyone, please don’t be surprised that I haven’t posted any pictures yet.

Yesterday I went through everything and sorted it into different groups. A few skeins can stay as is, and I’ve added a few of my own skeins to the box.

But I can’t get the box to close… I don’t think the 120 cm box from Hermes is big enough for all this.😱

Is there more in the package now than when Ina started it? 🤔 Because the box was the right size at the beginning.

I’ve been shuffling things back and forth for an hour now, and it’s not working 😒

A bigger box? Or should I vacuum-seal everything? Picking out even more wool for myself—not the solution either—since I’d have to put the same amount and quality back in anyway 🤣

I’m on it. But since I won’t be able to get it to the post office until Friday, I’m still testing a bit to see what the best solution is.

Hi, feel free to take more out if the box won’t close. The vacuum bag let me fit more inside. Make sure to get all the air out of it—seal it really tight. Good luck!

So, I sent the package off really quickly before it got any bigger again......

My husband and I packed it together yesterday. We followed Anja’s advice and sucked out a lot of air. Then my husband used all his strength to close the box, pressed it down a bit here and there, and finally it fit perfectly at 80 cm.

It now weighs over 7 kg—if we weighed it correctly.

There was quite a bit of yarn in there, and it was really pretty.

I picked out this yarn for myself. I want to knit some new dishcloths from the cotton. The red one is going to be a cowl—I hope there’s enough yarn for that. We’ll see what it actually turns out to be in the end.

Now Ina can see what’s new in the box and what’s traveled all across the country and made its way back to her.

Oh, that was funny, dear Petra. While reading your post, we all imagined you and your husband taking turns—or even sitting on the package at the same time. After all, one of you had to stick the tape on, and in that heat, too. You must have been completely exhausted afterward.

But at least the effort was worth it. Beautiful new wool for beautiful new crafts.

Well, now I’m curious! Poor delivery person. We have a big staircase, and my husband is currently repaving it—so it’s a construction site. He’ll surely leave the package outside behind the front door. I’ll then convince my husband to haul the package into the house. And then I’ll need some peace and quiet for hours! I’ll spread everything out on the big green rug in the living room. .... and then I’ll let you know how it goes :-)

Best wishes and have a wonderful day, everyone—hopefully without any storms.
Ina

Dear Ina,

If you’re having bad weather, feel free to send it my way—it hasn’t rained here for a month. The garden desperately needs water, but officially we’re not supposed to water or use the sprinklers because some villages here are already running low on water. Plus, there’s a fire in one of the villages every day...

Petra, you’ve put together a lovely selection. I would have loved all of it too. It’s really funny to imagine how you packed the parcel. We had a similar experience—I took things out and put them back in countless times just to somehow squeeze everything in.

Now I’m really, really excited to see what all arrives at Ina’s. Ina, this is going to be a real yarn celebration at your place—how wonderful! My husband also always enjoys lugging the parcels around and taking them to be shipped again.

I hope you all have a great time and stay safe from any storms.

Warm regards
Monika

Oh my, so much effort in this weather...🙄 I guess that’s what sparks the reader’s imagination...😂
I’m really amazed at how you all got the box ready for shipping again.
You’ve put together a lovely selection, Petra. I could really use that skein of “piglet pink” right now.
Let’s see what lovely things you make with it.

Best wishes
Marlies

You really picked out some beautiful items—great colors. And you squeezed the package back down to size M again—hats off to you! 🤣

Such a great selection, Petra. I would have liked that too, the pink and the yellow-orange yarn.
So funny with your packaging skills. I’m always amazed at how the package has survived all of that. This time it was really exciting: how will the package arrive, and which yarn will change hands?
Now it’s Ina’s turn, and everyone is surely eagerly waiting for her feedback. What yarn treasures will arrive at her place?

hope you all have a pleasant rest of the week

P.S. We had strong winds, lightning, thunder, and rain, but luckily the big storm passed us by.

It’s been raining really hard here, but not in the surrounding areas. At least it’s cooled off a bit—the last few nights were terrible.

It’s been nothing but heavy rain and wind here too, but it’s cooled off nicely.
Petra, your treasures are great. I wanted to knit a kids’ jacket out of my yarn, but the sleeves turned out way too wide—so I’ll have to rip it out. But it was so much fun to knit.

Just in time before the downpour, the Hermes courier managed to deliver the heavy package to me. I don’t know what you’re all thinking—I think the box is still in really good shape—though now it’s covered in lots of tape and a bit rounder :-) But at least it did its job very well.

Now it’s sitting in the living room, waiting for me. I can’t wait to see what’s inside!

Best regards, Ina

Dear Ina, it’s a new box 🤣

Believe me, when I threw away the old one, I needed a sharp knife. Layer by layer, I cut through the tape. The layer of tape was so thick, you could have killed someone with it.

That’s probably why it ended up being more than 80 cm in the end. Have fun unpacking it. Open it carefully—you don’t want air to rush into the bag and send everything flying at you. Since you mentioned it’s getting rounder, the bag might have filled with air in the meantime.

And I was already wondering about the “really good shape” part. 🤣🤣

.... Petra, you mean like those “surprise candies,” but with yarn????
Instead of confetti, it’s raining wonderfully soft yarn... What more could we want? 😇

Yay, the yarn package has made its rounds, and we’re all eagerly waiting for Ina to unwrap the “yarn surprise” and for colorful yarn to rain down. It’s going to be fun.

So, dear Ina, have fun “bathing in yarn”😍😍😍

I’m also sooo excited to see what Ina gets to unpack. It’s like Christmas, Easter, and a birthday all at once.

Aaaaah, so that’s how it is. Now it makes sense to me. So, in the end, the yarns did find a new home after all. Well, this round was longer than before, after all. And heavier than the previous package. All challenges we’ve overcome!

Everyone now has new treasures. Me too! These are the new yarns that have stolen my heart. I’m especially taken with the thin, pink one in the bottom left of the picture. It’s a great color, and the yarn is exactly the right weight for my doll clothes. Thanks to the generous donor.

By the way, I felt the same way as you did. The thick wools didn’t really appeal to me this time—probably because it’s summer. If the package had made its rounds in the fall, it probably would have been different.

Of the yarns that started their journey with me, only two found their way back home. As for one of them—the 10 red skeins of GDR yarn—I’m not upset at all. I actually liked them myself and had been wondering whether to pass them on or not. Well, they’re back with me now because they didn’t inspire you.

Decades ago, I’d knitted a loose-fitting slipover with it. Of course, I don’t have that anymore. But now I have the yarn back. Maybe I’ll make a new one for myself out of it.

The other one was a light yellow baby yarn. Nobody wanted it—not even me. Now I’ll give it away. Everything else found a taker. It was no big deal with 12 interested parties who took a close look at and examined everything.

The best yarns—in my opinion—will be “recalled” in the next package. But there’s still time until then. For now, we can all get started knitting up the yarns we’ve acquired.

I’d like to thank everyone for participating. Have fun with your yarns and enjoy the summer.

Warm regards from Ina

That makes me happy, dear Veronika. Thank you very much for participating and for your humorous comments. I can’t make a difference on my own—only together can this become a wonderful event that everyone enjoys.

Dear Ina,
first of all, I’d also like to thank you very much 👏🏼 for organizing this swap. I—and I’m sure everyone else here—always have so much fun “diving into the yarn,” and now these yarn treasures have found a new home with you. That’s great.

The pink yarn—I don’t remember exactly—might have been mine, because it was too thin for me. But it’s just right for your doll fashion projects. I can totally picture it on your dolls as a pretty dress or sweater. I’m excited to see what you’ll knit or crochet for them.

Have fun working with the swap yarn, everyone 🧶

Best wishes
Andrea

Since I unfortunately discovered this swap event too late—I have a request:

When a new package is sent out, could you announce it here? I don’t check the forum regularly—but I get a notification from this chat.
I’d love to join in next time.
Best regards, Ulrike

Dear Ina,

thank you so much for all your hard work and effort on this exciting swap event.🌺🌻🌼🥀

I would have kept the pink yarn, too. It’s a great color—I’m sure it’ll make some super cute dresses for the dolls again. The Catania yarn would have found a new home with me as well. Have fun with your treasures.

Reading through the comments here, I think a lot of people are already looking forward to the next event 😉

Best regards
Marlies

It’s actually a shame that it’s already over. This was my very first time participating in something like this, and I found it very exciting and thrilling to see the lovely “little treasures” that were looking for—and found—a new home.
Many thanks, dear Ina, for all your effort and hard work in organizing this!

Warm regards
Renate

Dear Ina, thank you so much for putting so much effort into the swap package. My yarn was a joy to knit with, but unfortunately the sleeves on the children’s jacket turned out much too wide, so I’ll be unraveling it soon. I’m already looking forward to the next round in the fall.
I hope you all continue to enjoy working with your new treasures and have a wonderful summer free of storms.

Dear Ina,
I’d also like to thank you very much for organizing and launching this wonderful swap package. It was once again a very special experience—both sharing in the excitement here with all the participants and wondering what might be inside the package. Yes, I’m already looking forward to the next time.

It was a really lovely group once again. Now I’d also like to wish you all a wonderful summer.

Best regards, Monika

I’m glad you all enjoyed it. Yes, it’s not just about the yarn, but also about excitement, entertainment, fun, and a sense of community. But the yarn you find is always something special. You would never have discovered it in a store.

@Bogenraus
Dear Ulrike, I can’t promise that I’ll remember to post a link to the start of the new swap ring here in this—by then—old thread.

In any case, I’ll announce the start of the next swap ring in the forum itself a few days in advance. Even if you don’t check the forum every day, you’re sure to see it then.

Best regards, Ina

Hello everyone,
it’s always nice to follow along with you—even if I missed the swap ring 😉

I hope I can make it next time.
But just “reading along” was fun, too, and it’s great to see all the wonderful yarns people are discovering.
