Swap Package No. 2/2023 is on its way, Part 2.

Hello everyone,

As of today, the 7 kg swap package is on its way. I’ve packed sooo many beautiful yarns inside—there’s definitely something for everyone. And everyone will add new ones and take others out in exchange. I’m really excited to see which yarns will change hands, be marveled at, admired, and felt.

If possible, always check the list to see what the person coming after you would like. And if you can fulfill those wishes, all the better. Now, the following people can look forward to the arrival of the swap package in this order:

Bastelfan
dievomdeich
Lethyna
maria-zielassny
Maxtiger
monalisa2662
mowi19
Nadel-Bine
renate-kufer
Sallyware
veronika-115
WollwunderPetra
Schnuckelina

The current box fits the size requirements for a Hermes M package perfectly. If you choose (or need to use) a different box, make sure that the longest and shortest sides together don’t exceed 80 cm. The weight doesn’t matter—just pack as much as fits. After all, there’s tape to tame all that woolly splendor.

I hope we all have a lot of fun with this swap. Please feel free to show us which new wool treasures have found their way into your homes. Add this thread to your watchlist so you can follow everything in real time and leave comments. Thank you so much in advance!

Warm regards from Ina

P.S. My husband found the packing tape amusing :-) But for us, this is precious cargo.

Then I’m already looking forward to it along with Andrea 😊

The packing tape is just right—hopefully they’ll handle the treasures with care and the box will stay “fresh” longer...

Thank you so much, Ina, for all your hard work,
I’m really looking forward to browsing through everything.
I need some cheering up right now—my godmother passed away yesterday. She was already 99 years and 10 months old, and we’re actually glad she finally made it—she had dementia, skin cancer, and had been refusing all food since Easter—but I’m still sad. I didn’t want to bore you with all this, I just needed to get it off my chest

Dear Ina, thank you so much for getting the package started. I’m already excited to see what kind of surprise is in store for me.
Best regards to all my fellow swappers.

Dear Margitta, I’m so sorry to hear about your godmother. My deepest condolences. I’ve sent you a PM.

If anyone else would like to send Margitta a comforting message, please do so privately via PM as well. This thread is meant to be about the yarn swap. I’m sure you all understand.

Warm regards, Ina

Margitta, you have my sympathy! Yes, it’s always sad when loved ones leave us. I always tell myself: we’ll see each other again someday. So this wool package is a real comfort package for you.

And yes, a comfort package like this really does come at just the right time—it’s a nice distraction.
I’m already sooo excited, but I still have plenty of time to share in the excitement!

Let’s see what swap yarn arrives for me and gets to join my stash. Thanks, Ina

Everyone’s waiting… Hermes doesn’t seem to be moving very fast right now. Or maybe we’re just too impatient.

Hermes told me a package was on its way last Friday. Nothing has arrived yet...🙄
So I guess it’s not because we’re impatient, Ina.

Marlies, but it would have to go to Bstelfan first, since B comes before D. Maybe it’s a different package for you?

There are a lot of spam messages going around right now, including some from DHL. Be careful! Don’t click on the links in those emails!! I’ve also received spam like that from Hermes, which I deleted right away.

Yeah, they’ve been really annoying lately. And getting notices from banks I’m not even a customer of, saying that all my accounts have been frozen. Who still falls for that?
But 5 days is really quite a long time, even for Hermes. Although regular mail within Cologne can sometimes take 2 or 3 days, too. I think there’s a massive staff shortage everywhere.

....it’s not just the people we’re missing.... If Hermes is supposed to deliver to me, it can sometimes take one to two weeks—they can’t “find” our house, our address isn’t listed in the GPS, and since most drivers don’t ask due to language barriers.... the whole thing often ends up back at the depot for address verification.... It’s really bad when it’s vacation time and the regular driver is on vacation....

You might want to call them with the tracking number and ask where the package is currently stuck....

So, my dear yarn lovers,

I had the pleasure of being the first to look inside this package.
It was quite heavy—I managed to carry it up to the 3rd floor, opened it…

and there I stood, faced with a huge selection. It wasn’t easy to decide this time. Beautiful yarns. Let yourself be surprised.
For the first time, I’m trying this great ribbon yarn (top left).

Here’s my haul

Hugs, Andrea

Marlies gets to look forward to it next

Great, Andrea! I’m glad you found so many yarns for yourself. It’s clear you’re a crocheter of small, delicate things—you always need thin yarns. But something new has also snuck in and is now waiting to be put to the test. I hope you have lots of fun working with your new treasures.

Wow, such beautiful yarn! I’m already curious to see what everyone will make with it. I’ve never worked with ribbon yarn myself, and such thin yarn isn’t really my specialty either. But I’m happy to be inspired!

I’ve already test-crocheted with the ribbon yarn; it works great.
Maybe I’ll make a bag out of it; we’ll see. I’m still experimenting.

With the neon yarn, some mosaic granny squares, and with this thin crochet yarn, little figures or maybe the included pattern for doilies.

Ina, you’re a sweetheart, thank you.

It’s arrived. I can’t say whether it’s complete. At the bottom, one side had come completely loose and the other was hanging by a tiny bit of tape. Normally I would have sent it back, but I was afraid that the wool would definitely not arrive complete.

There were larger packages lying on the bottom, so I hope nothing was lost.

There are some real treasures in there again, and I found what I was looking for right away. My haul is going into my “waiting box” for now 😉

And since I was so quick, the package is already on its way again. 🚚

However, the nice man at the store said the package was right on the borderline for size M—actually more like L. But since we have a pickup person who’s willing to turn a blind eye, he let it go through as an M-sized package.
Maybe keep that in mind for the next box.

Best regards
Marlies

Hi Marlies,

I just read that the package was delivered, but it’s still annoying how it arrived at your place.

You’re so quick, and you’ve found some lovely wool treasures—I even recognize some of my own yarns.
I’m sure you’ll make something wonderful out of them. Have fun working with it.
We’re looking forward to the next “Wollebad.”

Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend with the swap yarn :-)

Well, what can you say about the battered box? And already at the 2nd stop. You can practically see how the box was mishandled during shipping. When it was dropped off at the parcel counter, it was smooth and clean and securely taped shut. I’m at a loss for words, and I just don’t understand it.

If anyone has a new box with the specified dimensions for an M parcel, they are welcome to replace the battered box. The longest and shortest sides together must not exceed 80 cm. If you continue using the old box, please cinch it tightly all around with plenty of packing tape and check it with a tape measure.

So, now to the main thing: the yarn!

Dear Marlies, I’m happy about the treasures you found for your stash. In due time, they’ll inspire you to do some handiwork. Better to have it than to need it :-)

Kind regards, Ina

Wow, Marlies, what beautiful yarn you’ve picked out! I’d love it too—it’s so beautifully colorful. I hope you have lots of fun with the yarn, and I’m already excited to see what beautiful things you’ll create with it.

This whole package situation is pretty crazy. But it’s not Hermes’ fault. Here, it happens very often—especially with DHL. It always depends on the delivery people; they’re all under time pressure. For us, Hermes has actually been the best for a long time. At DHL, they’re constantly training new people, and they don’t know the ropes at all. Twice we’ve received an exchange package from Ina that we had to replace right away because it was no longer usable. Until now, we’ve had to pay close attention to the weight of the package. Now we can use thicker, sturdier boxes.

Have a great weekend—spring is really in the air here.

The swap package arrived at my place today. Wow, that was somehow faster than I expected. :D

At first, I was completely overwhelmed by the amazing selection of yarn in the package. But then I managed to pick out a few little treasures.
I also hope that one of the upcoming participants will be happy with one of the treasures I contributed.

Here’s what I picked out:
Contrary to my usual habits, I had to go with this awesome colorful yarn—it just called out to me, even though it’s made mostly of synthetic fibers.
But that’s definitely the whole point of this swap package: Try something different

And I’ll be sending it on its way again right away. Good thing I have the day off today.

Hey, what great treasures you’ve picked out for yourself. Such a colorful mix.
I actually held that confetti yarn in my hands at first, too, but then decided on a different “unfamiliar” yarn.
That’s exactly how it should be. Touching, feeling, testing the yarn... It was the same for me.
I would have liked the pink yarn, too.

Have fun trying it out and working with it.

Best, Andrea

I’m glad the dark red fluffy yarn has found a new home. It was just lying around at my place because it was too much for a scarf and too little for a sweater.

It’s really hard to choose something when there’s sooo much to choose from.

It’s great that everyone likes something different. And with so much to choose from, everyone is sure to find a new little treasure—and sometimes even a surprise treasure. You can’t go wrong here; you can only win: new yarn and/or new experiences.

Dear Yvonne, you’ve picked out something lovely! The shade of the top yarn is absolutely gorgeous. It even has a sheen and subtle flecks of color. I can really picture it made into a top with large stitches—it would look great against tanned skin. But you’ll have your own ideas. Maybe we’ll get to see it later.

I hope you have lots of fun working with your new yarns.

Warm regards, Ina

Wow, Yvonne, the package is already here! Great! You’ve picked out some really beautiful yarn. I have some colorful yarn like that too, but I still don’t know what to make of it. Well, I’m sure it’ll come to me eventually. I’m curious to see what you’ll work your magic with. If it doesn’t turn into clothing, synthetic yarn is definitely useful either way.

Now it’s the next one of us who gets to look forward to a wool bath. And it won’t be toooo long before it lands at my place. Since I’m not traveling right now—I’ll be going later in May—this works out perfectly. I’m really looking forward to it and have quite a bit of wool lying around that’s ready to move on.

I just have to vent briefly about Hermes. The yarn package arrived at my place on Wednesday and was sent on its way again immediately. Today I found a notice in the mail saying I’d received a package from Hermes.
Funnily enough, it was the yarn package. At first I thought I’d filled out the address label incorrectly, but no—everything was exactly where it should be.
So tomorrow morning I’ll have to go to the store where I dropped it off and file a complaint.
This is really annoying.

So, as a heads-up to those who are next in line, please be patient a little longer.

Hello everyone,

I’d like to ask you to remove me from the swap package list.
Exactly what I was afraid of has now happened: I’ll be in Düsseldorf for a week starting May 15 for a funeral and to take care of a few things
that still need to be sorted out, and the package would arrive here right during that time.
Rather than have it hanging around here and possibly being sent back, please just take me off the list entirely.

THAT MEANS MAXTIGER WOULD THEN PLEASE NEED TO SEND IT DIRECTLY ON TO MOWI19

I’m sorry to cause you all this trouble, but the dates only came up relatively shortly beforehand. Of course I’d be happy to join in again next time, and I’ll continue reading along here to see which treasures have found new homes.
Thank you for your understanding and warm regards

Dear Margitta,

this isn’t exactly a pleasant situation, of course, and it’s very understandable that you have other things on your mind. But you could also ask to be moved to a later spot on the list.

I wish you lots of strength and hope you’re able to get everything sorted out.

Warm regards

Lethyna, I’d be curious to know what happened with Hermes?

Dear Margitta, we understand that your mind is on other things right now. It’s hard to focus on yarn at a time like this. You’ll be back with us next time.

For now, the most important thing is that you get through this all successfully. We’re sending you lots of strength for the next steps.

Just to be on the safe side, I wrote to Maxtiger again to make sure she sends the package to Monika. Maybe she doesn’t check this forum that often.

Warm regards, and I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

Dear Mowi19,
I suspect the sticker is the issue too. I specifically told the young man to please cover the other barcodes with tape and relied on him to do so—after all, he works for the store.
Apparently, he didn’t do that. There was a more competent employee there on Saturday, but he couldn’t reach anyone at Hermes that day to ask what was going on. So he plans to do that on Monday and then take further action. If it was just the wrong sticker, the package will be on its way as usual on Monday. If the problem is something else, I won’t be able to resolve it until Wednesday, since I won’t be back at the shop before then.
Let’s keep our fingers crossed.

Oh dear, Lethyna, then we’ll gladly keep our fingers crossed. I don’t rely on the store staff for that and always print the label myself—right on top of the previous one, of course. So far, that’s worked great with all the packages I send. I’ve had worse experiences with DHL...

The package should make it through as long as it’s clear where it’s supposed to go.

For me, it’s exactly the opposite—so far, I’ve had nothing but problems with every single one of my Hermes packages, or I’ve had to pick them up from somewhere else, even though there’s a package shop just a 5-minute walk away.

I’ve also been through quite a bit with DHL and Deutsche Post, but nowhere near as much trouble with every single package

I received incorrect information from the Hermes shop; the package isn’t going out until today. Maria just got the new tracking number, too.
I don’t understand why nothing has happened from Monday until now—I specifically left it at the shop on Saturday so it could be shipped out promptly.
I’m sorry for the delay.
I hope things are going better for everyone else.

Yes, you have to be patient. It’s a good thing we can track where the package is these days. Otherwise, we’d probably lose track of ours. Let’s all practice patience—especially Maria, who’s next in line.

It’s a good thing wool doesn’t have a best-by date :-) It’ll last forever in that dark package.

I wish you all a wonderful weekend.
Warm regards, Ina

Dear friends,
would it be possible for me to swap with Maxtiger?
Then Maria would send it to me—and I’d send it to Maxtiger.

That would really help me, since we’re (having to) go on a week-long trip on May 27—that is, in two weeks. And I’d love to enjoy the wool bath before then. In my experience, Hermes is usually fast. But I don’t want to risk it not arriving in time. I’m really looking forward to it!

Now I wish you all a wonderful weekend!

Best regards, Monika

You should charge an admission fee just to view your colorful garden art (woodwork and colorful crochet pieces) :-) It must be a colorful whirlwind inside you. Too bad your day only has 24 hours, too. It’s wonderful to see that the swap yarn from the last package was crocheted into something so exciting. Those skeins certainly never would have dreamed of that.

Warm regards, Ina

You’ve picked out some lovely yarn, Maria. The orange yarn would have been my color, too.
We’re already looking forward to seeing your finished projects. Happy crafting!

With Petra, it’s always crazy and colorful; there’s so much to admire in the pictures. I think it’s great.
Creativity must run in all our blood.

Love, Andrea

Well, my dears, the big yarn package arrived at my place today, and I opened it right away. An incredible selection. This time, I didn’t keep much for myself, and I don’t know yet what I’ll make with it. But these skeins of yarn told me they want to stay.

The colorful yarn will most likely become baby clothes for my Julian. I swapped the sock yarn for another one I had.

Now the package has already set off on its journey again—to maxtiger (Ines). After that, Woll-Bine has something to look forward to.

I tried to swap out the box, but unfortunately I don’t have that size in stock. So I secured the box properly again with more packing tape. There’s a lot of beautiful yarn inside, including some thick yarn. The next recipients have something to look forward to.

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!

Warm regards from Monika

Dear Monika,

you, too, have examined everything carefully and kept only the yarns you liked. That’s exactly how it should be. In any case, you’ve gone for more color than usual. We’ll definitely get to see what you conjure up with it. And there’s certainly enough for your Julian.

If there’s a lot of thick yarn in the package, it would be wise to set aside some of it for those fall and winter knitting and crocheting projects. That’s exactly the kind of thing you’ll be looking for then. You have to think countercyclically ;-)

I wish you all a wonderful weekend.

Warm regards, Ina

Beautiful, that colorful yarn, dear Monika—for a baby (?)? I’m sure that’s the right choice. I’m still in Düsseldorf; we’re heading home tomorrow, so it was the right decision. We’ve also taken care of everything, and now I’m feeling better

Thanks, dear Ina. Of course I’ll show you here what I made with the colorful yarn. The funny thing is that this yarn was right on top and immediately caught my eye. I could have saved myself the trouble of going through the others. By the way, I tried out three boxes, so I was able to examine every skein closely while packing. In the end, I packed everything back into the original box. It’s almost a miracle that it lasted this long.

Margitta, I’m glad you were able to get everything done. I know what’s involved—I’m still right in the middle of it myself. Yes, the colorful yarn is perfect for a baby boy. I’ve usually only knitted for girls before.

Some gorgeous yarn got to move in with you, Monika.
I would have picked the colorful one in the middle too.
Blue for a boy is a must, of course. So let the needles click.
You’ll be quick again, and whoosh, the next baby outfit will be finished.

Then I wish you all a lovely crafting weekend with the new swap yarn

Finally I can do more crafting again too, because starting today/Saturday I have 2 weeks off, yay.

Lots of love
Andrea

You’ve picked out some beautiful, colorful yarn there. Now I’m curious to see when the package will arrive at my place.
Wishing everyone a warm and wonderful weekend!

Dear Andrea, I wish you a wonderful vacation! You really deserve it.

Dear Margitta, that already sounds great. Maybe you’d like to join the end of the swap ring? You’d written in your excitement that you wanted to sit this one out entirely. But now that you’re feeling better again and will be back home soon, the swap package might be a welcome change of pace for you. If so, feel free to let us know here.

Best regards, Ina

Yes, Margitta, that would be a good idea. The package is still on its way, and detours can be planned.

I should also carefully mention that I may have to drop out. We’re going on vacation starting at Pentecost, and depending on how long the package takes or how quickly it continues its journey, I might not be back home yet. I think I’ll have internet access and can read along here.

Andrea, I wish you a relaxing vacation.

Monika, I would have liked that sock yarn too 😍

Tip for a new box: Do you have a car dealership you trust? We get lots of replacement parts delivered in huge boxes. Maybe they have one in the right size.

Andrea, I also wish you a fantastic vacation and plenty of time for everything that brings you joy. You’ll finally be able to relax a bit and recover from the stress. Just sleeping in a little goes a long way.

Ines, the package is already on its way today. And if Hermes keeps up this pace, it’ll arrive at your place very soon.

Margitta, I think Ina’s idea is great. That way, you can still look forward to the beautiful yarn.

Petra, I’d recommend that to you, too. It’s definitely an option. The tip about the car dealership sounds good. You could also ask at electronics stores. They’re probably happy to get rid of their boxes.
The sock yarn is just my color. It’ll probably end up as a “Winter Karl,” which I want to knit with sock yarn. I just really like red. But there’s another type of sock yarn in the package now.

I’m finally enjoying the balcony—with my knitting, of course. It’s too windy for me in the garden today; my yarn would just blow away on its own.

Hello, everyone!
Thanks for your sweet idea to put me at the end, but the day before yesterday my husband had the wonderful idea that we should go to Jagdhaus Eiden in Bad Zwischenahn from May 31 to June 6. My birthday is on June 2, and he thinks I need a week’s vacation with wellness, massages, delicious food, and peace and quiet.

Next time, though, I’d love to join you again.
Warm regards, and I hope you all have a lovely, sunny, woolly Sunday

Dear Margitta, you have such a sweet husband! A wellness vacation is definitely better than any wool package.

It’s already the 20th today, and there are still a few stops to go—sit all the way at the back, and you’ll get both wellness and wool! :-))

A spa day sounds like something I’d really enjoy right now, too. Veronika is right.
Dear Margitta, treat yourself to a spa day first, and then treat yourself to some yarn. It’s that simple.

Thank you so much, you dear yarn friends. A vacation is always wonderful after exhausting work.
We’re going to take several day trips, here and there. Depending on the weather.

To everyone: we’re also going to Potsdam. I’ve already Googled where there are yarn shops. I found some, too. They’re all close to the train station.
But maybe one of you has an insider tip for buying beautiful yarn cakes, etc.

Thanks.

Very nice yarn, Monika. I would have chosen the two colorful ones from the top photo, too.

Dear Andrea, I wish you a wonderful vacation. Have a good rest.

The same goes for you, Margitta.

The package should be arriving at the next stop soon, right?

A new www was invented especially for Margitta: Wellness Wolle Willich :-)

Dear Andrea,
if you ever want to take a trip to Berlin, there’s a lovely yarn shop there called “Herr U.” The owner is a passionate knitter and has lots of special yarns in his little shop. He doesn’t have an online store, but you can always find something in the shop.

Best regards, Ina

Well, the package has arrived, and I’ve already had a look through it and made an initial selection.
But I’ll make my final decision tomorrow and then show you my selection. Today was so exhausting that I’d rather lie down for now.
Wishing everyone a lovely evening!
Best, Ines

Here’s my selection. Now I just need to reseal the package—it’s already packed with new yarn.
And then off to Hermes so Nadel-Bine can be happy.
Love, Ines

Great color choice, let’s see what you’ll conjure up with it.
Now I’m really looking forward to browsing through it.
Have a wonderful Whitsun weekend, everyone.

Looks like my green one has finally found a new home. Great.

Yeah, green is my color. I saw that skein and knew I had to have it.😅
I’ll make something for our little one out of the blue one again.
I really liked the color combination of the bobble yarn. I’m not sure yet what I’ll make with it.
Hugs, Ines

Ines, that’s a great choice. I’d already held that Bobbel yarn in my hands, but it was too thick for me. Now I’m also curious to see what you’ll make with it and what Nadel-Bine ends up with.

It’s really exciting to follow the yarn’s journey... :)

I really like the bobble, too. I would have liked to get the green one, but then I would have needed two of them. I’m curious to see what ends up coming of this.

To everyone still waiting: keep looking forward to it!

Hi everyone,
I don’t want to keep you waiting any longer. The huge package arrived at my place on Saturday evening. However, my little grandson was visiting, and when he’s around, I don’t get anything done except play, go for walks, and look after the little one. He’s 3 years old and a real live wire—and so cute ... lol
Today his parents have him back, and I was finally able to open the package. It was a long wait, but definitely safer that way, because I need some peace and quiet to look through the yarn and choose what I want.

Here’s my selection.

The white cotton is going to become an Olaf—we’ll see how much yarn he needs. It’s a bit thicker, so I’ll have to see whether I can work with it well.
The colorful yarn might become a sweater for our granddaughter... the colors are so beautiful. The lilac crochet thread will definitely become a little bunny.
So... it won’t be boring.
The package will be on its way tomorrow.
Have a great Pentecost Monday afternoon/evening, everyone!
Best wishes, Sabine

It’s interesting to see how the yarn finds its way. The package has already been on a long journey, and now these yarn treasures have landed with you.
It’ll be nice to see what you make of them. I’m really looking forward to seeing your Olaf.
I’ve been wanting to crochet that one myself—it’s just so cool.

Wishing everyone a great rest of Pentecost Monday.

Best regards
