New in June + May 29, 30, and 31

Click here for the knitting pattern for the summer baby overalls

These adorable summer pants for babies just arrived in my shop. They’re a versatile choice for both baby boys and baby girls. There are actually a few advantages you might not notice at first glance, for example:

  • The pants grow with your baby for a while—from 3 months to about 2 years.
  • You can also knit the legs longer as needed. Or you can knit two pairs of pants in different lengths right away.
  • In the short version shown here, the legs can also be shortened by folding them over if you’d like.
  • The long-legged version can be worn in any season. The shorts can be paired with tights or leggings in cooler weather.
The knitting pattern describes every step in detail, making it suitable even for beginners. However, basic knowledge of crocheting and knitting, as well as a little knitting experience, is required.

Additional benefits:
  • The pattern is written without abbreviations, which makes it easier to follow along.
  • The pattern folder includes two versions—one with photos and one without (print version).
  • As a bonus, there’s also a short workshop on the magic ring (crochet). The heart appliqué is included in the knitting pattern.

Handicrafts with Children / for Children

Click here for the knitting pattern for the teddy or doll pants

For children who are just learning to knit at school, these pants for a teddy or doll are a great practice project. They are very easy to knit, and there are a few little challenges along the way that will make the child proud to have done it. For example, knitting with two colors or in the round. With a little help from “knitting pro Mom or Grandma,” children can manage it well.

The pattern includes detailed photos and is written without abbreviations, which makes it easier to follow.

This play kitchen food is also perfect for kids to crochet themselves. That way, the dolls have something to eat, and you can use up leftover yarn at the same time.

The pattern is written without abbreviations, making it perfect for kids. There are also detailed photos of each step.

Have fun making it!

June Projects: including UFO Week from June 25 to July 2, Best of Leftovers, Yarn Emperor/Yarn Diet, and all the other title highlights

I’m definitely joining in and will finish my current UFO.
I have plenty of leftover yarn, too, and I’m sure I’ll find creative ways to use it.
June is going to be a great month for garden crafts.

Final sprint and award ceremony // all May projects at a glance

To everyone who wants to go on a “wool diet” for a whole year:

Wow—you guys are absolutely amazing!!!! You have my full admiration!

But honestly... if my yarn stash had been even bigger... the temptation would have been enormous. ;-)

Final sprint and award ceremony // all May projects at a glance

Josefa, you’ve written this up wonderfully for everyone again. It’s always a joy to read your hymns of praise. :-)

I’d also like to mention that I’m not just the “Wool Empress” — everyone who’s stuck to the “Wool Diet” from December until now has won world domination. That just occurred to me as I was reading. ;-) That was actually the motivation to keep going for sooooo incredibly long.

Yes, I’d be very happy to join in again in June, and I’m already looking forward to all the beautiful projects I’ll get to admire from you all — including Sandra’s colorful dress with “content” ... grin.

Wishing you all a lovely evening and lots of joy in your crafting!

Best wishes from Monika

Final sprint and award ceremony // all May projects at a glance

UFO King/Queen
[X] I finished several UFOs and have truly earned the title UFO King/Queen.
Details about the UFO / UFOs:
  • The cushion cover finally got buttons.
  • The baby pants are finally finished.

Best of Leftovers
[X] Yes - I used up lots of colorful leftover yarn and have earned the title Best of Leftovers.
Details about the leftover-yarn projects:
  • Knitted striped pants for the favorite teddy bear
  • Knitted 2 joint-protector cushions for the “mouse hand” - for my son and my husband
  • Knitted 2  headbands - for the teddy bear and the baby
  • 2 pairs of baby shoes for summer - 1 x crocheted and 1 x knitted
Here is the photo of the crocheted little shoes - my garden work from the weekend:

Yarn Diet / Yarn Empress / Inner-Pig-Dog Conqueror
[X)I didn’t buy any yarn in May and have earned the title Yarn Empress.
[X] I haven’t bought any yarn for quite some time. The title Yarn Empress definitely and deservedly belongs to me. But the diet is over now; I will buy yarn in June. Please state the total time period.
6 months without buying yarn (since December 2017)

Wallflower Rescuer
Unfortunately didn’t manage it

Stepchild Yarn Rescuer // Stepchild Material Rescuer
Not that either

Ribbing Monster Conqueror
Not that either

Learned something new
[X] I learned something new and am therefore a winner. :- )
Details:
  • Yes, I learned to knit with the CraSyTrio - it’s already working really well

Garden projects / vacation projects
[X] I worked on / finished one project / several projects in the garden / park / on vacation and had fun doing it. :- )
Details:
  • I finished almost everything in the garden or on vacation - thanks to the wonderful weather. I especially enjoyed that.

all May projects
Number of projects finished in May:
  • 9 projects finished (I’m amazed myself) ;-)
Number of patterns finished / uploaded in May (for authors only):
  • Unfortunately I only managed 1 - in June there will be more

Details:
Anything else you can think of, you can write here.
  • Because I was missing yarn (and was on a yarn diet in May), I couldn’t finish crocheting my oven mitts. So I’m taking them with me into June as a UFO. Yarn has already been ordered (soooooooo happy).
  • I’m as excited as a little kid about the yarn I’ve already ordered (in June, of course). It’s mainly winter yarn because it’s available so cheaply right now, and just a few missing skeins of cotton. Because I still have lots of that and want to keep using it up over the summer.
  • It was fun again and really motivating to join in here with Best of Leftovers and Co. I’ll be very happy to take part again in June.

How are you, how’s it going, what are you up to, what are you working on?

Yes, the weekend was really nice, and I finished up my May projects—in the garden.
Now I’m designing something new and wavering back and forth between different projects. I think I’ll start by making some knitting swatches and then decide.

Also, I’m on a total yarn binge right now because I’m ordering more yarn… after a 6-month “diet”! So excited...

It’s too warm outside today, so I’m using the time to write patterns.

Weekend Projects: Beautifully Colorful

Click here for the crochet pattern for play kitchen food

It looks colorful—and delicious. And it’s very easy to crochet from leftover yarn. Beginners too (with basic knowledge) have the chance to get creative for their children or grandchildren and let play food “grow.” Everything is explained in detail and in an easy-to-understand way in the pattern, which, by the way, is written without abbreviations.

Click here for the crochet pattern for the shopping bag for little ones with contents

It’s best to crochet a mini shopping bag to go with it right away—with a little something inside. Beginners (with basic knowledge) will enjoy this too—and of course the kids will as well.

All projects can easily be finished crocheting in one weekend, and the leftover yarn will melt away.

Weekend Plans / Start of June

I’m looking forward to the weekend—after almost half a year of a “yarn diet” (no new yarn purchases), I’ll finally be able to order some yarn—yay!!

I also need to write up some patterns, and I’ll be trying out ideas for new projects in the garden. I’m really looking forward to that.

Grilling vegetables and vegan treats is also on the agenda.

Have a lovely holiday, everyone

It’s a holiday here in Bavaria too, and I’m looking forward to a trip to visit friends in the Salzburg region. It’s less than 100 km from where we live. Of course, I’ll be bringing my crochet projects along. That way, I can make good use of the time during the journey.

I wish all users and authors a beautiful, sunny day and lots of joy in life.

Warm regards

Ready for a vacation? Where are you taking your craft projects?

Tomorrow is a holiday here, and we’re invited to visit friends in the Salzburg area. In the car, I’ll of course use the time to crochet or knit. I’m not quite sure yet what I’ll bring along.

Other than that, we go on 2–3-day camping trips every now and then. And my craft bag always comes along.

Wow, you’ve finished some great pieces. Your tunic looks really great, Michaela. I like it.
And Marion, I think your vest is great, too. Now that it’s finished, I’m suddenly in the mood to knit a vest myself...

Arni, who knows... my mom didn’t give birth to me until she was almost 43, either. ;-) But it’s true—there are plenty of babies and moms who love getting gifts.

My UFOs are finally finished. I’ll summarize the final tally over the next few days to make things easier for Josefa. :-)

Happy with May? Plans for June

In May, I turned quite a bit of leftover yarn into some lovely projects. I also came up with some new ideas, some of which I’ve already brought to life, and I’m currently writing up the patterns for them.

Right now, I’m enjoying the beautiful weather—often in the garden or on the balcony. For me, the weather is always perfect for crocheting and knitting.

I have a few new projects planned for June that I want to work on. Most importantly, I’ll be ending my “yarn diet” and buying a big package of yarn... yay!

Use leftover yarn and make pretty, colorful little beginner projects

Click here for the crochet pattern for the little shopping bag for toddlers, including contents

With this cute little shopping bag, toddlers can go shopping just like grown-ups. It fits a banana and an apple, for example.

The pattern also includes a lemon and a carrot. That adds a few more items to the pretend shop.

All parts can be easily crocheted by beginners (with basic skills). The crochet pattern is beginner-friendly and written without abbreviations. This is a great way to use up leftover yarn.

Another great way for beginners (with basic skills) to use up leftover yarn is this play kitchen food set. This assortment covers a wide range of colors and can be crocheted creatively. For example, toast and butter, a fried egg, vegetables, and pasta.

The crochet pattern is just as beginner-friendly as the one for the bag. It’s best to get both patterns right away and make your child or grandchild very happy with them.

May Projects: UFO Week May 22 to June 4, Best of the Leftovers, Yarn Diet / Yarn Emperor, Rescuing Wallflowers, all May crafts, learning something new, Tunisian crochet

Pe-Ka, your egg cups look so cute. :-)

Marion, you’re really hard at work on your big projects—you keep finishing them one after another. The patterns look really great. What’s the top one going to be?

Here’s my leftover-yarn project progress so far:

2 headbands—one for the baby and one for the teddy bear—double-knitted:

And then the baby socks (sneakers?), knitted and crocheted—from the leftovers from the baby pants. Here’s also a photo of what they look like when worn—matching the summer pants:

I’ve now started crocheting more socks or little shoes. The leftovers should be enough for that. When they’re done, I’ll post them here. We still have time.

Sträkeln

Christina, that might have been me—I used the term in the thread about the May projects—see here:
https://www.crazypatterns.net/de/forum/topic/81609/mai-projekte-ufo-woche-22-mai-bis-4-juni-reste-beste-wolldiaet-wollkaiserin-mauerbluemchen-retten-alle-mai-handarbeiten-neues-lernen-tunesisches

It’s interesting to see the various possibilities associated with this term here—some of which I’m not even familiar with yet. Knitting with crochet hooks—now that’s an idea I’ll definitely try out.

For me, “Sträkeln” is a term I use (humorously) when I have parts in a knitted piece that I crochet. For example, I knitted the baby pants, but the top part has crocheted sections.

My current idea is to crochet straps onto knitted pieces, for example. The advantage is that the knitted part is nice and stretchy, but the straps are sturdier...

The baby socks or booties I’m currently “sträkling,” for instance, are knitted, but the cuff is crocheted. They look great! I came up with this because it was too tedious for me to knit the cuff on.

Of course, I’m always happy to learn something new. If anyone here has more to say about (possibly proper) “Sträkeln,” feel free to share. ;-)

May Projects: UFO Week May 22 to June 4, Best of the Leftovers, Yarn Diet / Yarn Emperor, Rescuing Wallflowers, all May crafts, learning something new, Tunisian crochet

How are things going with your UFOs and the like?

As for me, I’ll be adding some baby summer socks by tomorrow—I’ll finish them tonight. :-) A photo will follow by tomorrow at the latest.

Since I have to wait until June to order new yarn for my oven mitts, I’ll probably start a baby summer sweater next—made from “diet yarn,” of course. I still have plenty left. ;-)

I’m really looking forward to the new order. It’ll be like Christmas, Easter, and my birthday all at once! So excited.... :-)

Now I’m going to tackle my pattern UFOs first...

Have fun knitting, crocheting, crafting, or sewing! It can never be too warm for that, right?

May Projects: UFO Week May 22 to June 4, Best of the Leftovers, Yarn Diet / Yarn Emperor, Rescuing Wallflowers, all May crafts, learning something new, Tunisian crochet

Yay, my two UFOs are finally finished! Here are the photos to prove it. ;-)

The baby pants—they look so cute when worn.

The knitting pattern is still a UFO. ;-)

And here’s the second UFO—the buttons are finally sewn onto the pillowcase. Here’s the mixed-pattern pillow from both sides:

I’ll post my projects made from leftover yarn after the weekend. I just need to sew up the second cushion to support my “mouse hand” — for my husband.

And then I’m still working on little matching socks from the leftover yarn from the baby pants; it’ll be a mix of knitting and crocheting. By the way, the needle trio works great for such tiny items. The pants weigh just 77 grams, so they didn’t use much cotton. And… of course, they’ll grow with the baby, just like my little dresses. This time it was the baby boy’s turn. And if my second grandchild turns out to be a girl again, she’ll get the pants anyway. Because they look cute on girls, too.

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone. We’re heading into our first hot spell—they’re forecasting 30 degrees for Sunday… sweating…

Warm weekend greetings from Monika

Leftover Yarn Projects and Even More Great Projects for the Weekend

Click here for the crochet pattern for the little shopping bag with carrots and lemons

This shopping bag for toddlers can be crocheted very easily and quickly from leftover yarn. It also comes with a few lemons and carrots for the children's play shop.

The best thing to do is crochet the food for the play kitchen for your child or grandchild at the same time. You're guaranteed to bring them lots of joy, because children want to copy everything the grown-ups do. All you need is a little leftover yarn in different colors, and you're ready to go.
