Dear users, dear designers,
May was wonderful; we had lots of finished handmade projects and therefore many winners. June will be even better.

Here are the May topics to read up on:
May Projects: UFO Week May 22 to June 4, Best of Leftovers, Yarn Diet / Yarn Emperor,
Rescuing Wallflowers, all May handmade projects, learning something new, Tunisian
Crochet
Final sprint and awards ceremony // all May projects at a glance

In May, too, we once again have the popular activities UFO Week, Best of Leftovers, Yarn Diet (runs for only 1 month. Anyone who needs a break can pause and buy yarn. ), Tunisian Crochet, and brand-new Rescuing Wallflowers (PDF patterns that were bought / downloaded for free but never made ). This will be fun.

Here are the details:

UFO Week June 25 to July 2
Anyone who finishes at least one UFO during UFO Week at the end of June has earned the title. You can do it.

Best of Leftovers:
Anyone who uses up lots of leftover yarn will be awarded this title. Photos are always a good idea. The more colorful the leftovers, the better.

Yarn Diet = Yarn Emperor = only one month = until July 2
During this time, the voluntary participants do not buy any yarn, but only use yarn from their stash. That way you can reduce a lot of supplies, creating plenty of space for new things.

Inner-Pig-Dog Tamer = 1 year without buying yarn.
We have quite a few ladies who are up for this. I'm crossing my fingers for all of you ladies. Give us an update from time to time.

Three months of Yarn Diet in the fall
The extended Yarn Diet (without immediately dieting for a whole year ) with a chance to make it to the final round for rule over this galaxy runs from August to October. There will be no Yarn Diet in November and December so you can finish your Christmas projects. In 2019, logically, the final round for rule over the universe will follow. It starts in January. I hope you're all joining in.

Rescuing Wallflowers: Surely each of you still has quite a few patterns (bought or free, that counts too ) that were only downloaded but never made? Anyone who finishes their oldest wallflower in June will be awarded the title Wallflower Rescuer. Extra points / bonus points are available for feedback / comments / reviews of the pattern.

New: This is no longer called stepchild yarn or stepchild material, but stubborn yarn / stubborn material.
Read about it here:
Wallflower patterns and stepchild yarn / stepchild material: How's it going?

Rescuing stepchild yarn or stepchild material: This is the title of the activity where yarn that never really fits is used up. Anyone who would like a title should please upload a photo of the unloved yarn each time. Of course, the yarn / material also needs to be used appropriately and attractively.
You will then be awarded Yarn Rescuer or Material Rescuer for that.

Ribbelmonster Tamer: The cute little creatures that take great delight in forcing you to unravel your hard work. But you can't be mad at them. :- ) What the Ribbelmonsters don't get may become a UFO. :- )
You can write down info here:
Ribbelmonster thread April, May and June: what did you unravel and why?
-->Anyone who writes down details and info about their Ribbelmonsters at the end of the month
can, if desired, be honored as a "Ribbelmonster Tamer"

Activity: Learn something new and win while you're at it
Anyone who has learned something new can write it here in the thread and will get compliments and the win for it.

All June projects and all garden projects
Here in the thread there is room for everything you make by hand in June, and also for all projects you work on in the garden and on the balcony. Info and photos are always a good idea.

I’m definitely joining in and will finish my current UFO.
I have plenty of leftover yarn, too, and I’m sure I’ll find creative ways to use it.
June is going to be a great month for garden crafts.

So, I’m giving it another try this time. Maybe, for a change, there’ll be a month where things aren’t completely chaotic. A “yarn diet” and all that just doesn’t work—I treated myself to some yarn again today, but here’s my current UFO:

It’s going to be a knitted shawl with a crocheted border all around it.

I’m joining in again this month. Let’s see what I’ve managed to finish by the end of the month.

Project 1 is finished:
It’s a small portable music box. Anton’s music box is pretty big, and I think a small one is better for vacation.

Because of the music box mechanism, the shape isn’t perfect. But that’s okay.

Arni, you’re really hard at work.
I’ve only done 12 rows of Tunisian crochet this month. I’ve been trying out patterns and have only just decided which one to use.

I’m already working on “Reste-Beste” and my UFO. There are two projects, and both have to be finished by my daughter’s birthday.
She wants to make lots of little hearts from the scraps to give out to the party guests—I can’t say if the boys will be that thrilled, but she’ll definitely give them to them anyway.
And the UFO is the cushion I started a long time ago, but something else always came up.
But everything has to be finished by the end of the month.

You’re all working hard despite the heat. Me too. :-)
Arni, the idea with the little music box is great.

I finally got around to it yesterday and dug out some unloved yarn that’s been lying around for ages. It’s a cotton yarn spun to varying thicknesses—so it has a textured effect (chenille??). I immediately turned it into a pretty hairband for my granddaughter. Here’s what it looks like:

The red stripe in it—that’s something I just learned and put into practice right away. I actually found a way to incorporate vertical stripes—really simple and without having to knit with multiple skeins. I’ll try that again in a new project—maybe even with the unloved yarn. I really like the effect on the hairband.

Then I learned something new: how to crochet knit stitches. It looks good, but I have the same issue as with Tunisian crochet—the edges somehow always end up getting narrower. It definitely won’t replace knitting for me, because I love how everything is so nice and stretchy when I knit.

And then I finally finished my UFO—complete with the pattern. I’ll upload it right away. Here it is… ta-da:

The Ladybug Oven Mitts

And here’s my leftover yarn, which I plan to use to whip up some more hairbands:

Monika,
Your pot holders turned out beautifully, and you’ve already been busy too.

Things aren’t going so smoothly for me this time. I’m taking care of our son’s dog this week, so I have to take him for walks often and don’t get anything else done.

By the way, I posted my top with the wide neckline in the gallery just for you.

Here’s the leftover yarn for my current project.

Marion, I’m going to check out the gallery right now. What color is it so I can find it faster?

Your current project looks promising... I like the color. What’s it going to be?

I wish you a wonderful weekend and, despite the dog, plenty of time for crocheting and knitting!

Kind regards, Monika

Monika, I know you like shades of red.
It’s going to be another top, and I’m making it with Tunisian crochet.

Look how comfortable Ico feels with me.

Today I was browsing the gallery again—Marion, I really like your blue top. If it were for me, I’d probably just make the neckline a little smaller. With so many great ideas, I don’t even know what to do with my cotton that I’ve been saving for so long!

Marion, your visitor is clearly feeling right at home with you. If he’s this relaxed more often, you’ll surely have some time to crochet in between.

A sweater in Tunisian crochet… I admire you. That wouldn’t be for me. Way too big and not stretchy enough. How nice that there are so many different preferences. That’s what makes the craft world truly colorful.

So—today I spent two hours diligently working on my neglected yarn—more specifically, winding the skeins. I managed 600 grams, together with my neighbor and friend, who kindly held them for me. Afterward, she got a neck massage from me. ;-)

I’m going to start knitting with this very yarn now. It’s bouclé yarn, if that means anything to you. It really creates a great effect when knitted. I have seven balls in white and one in pink. I’m thinking of a jacket with colored stripes, maybe even with checks. I’ll let the ideas flow for now...

I’m also still mulling over ideas for another project... And in between, I’m knitting a few headbands in different colors for my grandchild.

Dear everyone, how are you? How are your current projects going? Do you even feel like crafting in this heat?

My current status:

3 headbands for my granddaughter are finished (photo to follow).

And I finally know what I actually want to knit—I really didn’t have an easy time with the design this time. For the last two days I’ve been doing nothing but starting, then unraveling again, starting over. Phew ... and now I have two projects on the needles at once: a vest made from stepchild yarn and a summer top for myself made from thin cotton.

Also, another idea has come up for a crochet project. So it could well be that a new UFO is being created... we’ll see.

Have fun today, everyone, and I’m looking forward to a sign of life from you! :-)

Monika, I’m still alive.

You’ve really got a lot planned—I’m curious to see how it turns out.

My Tunisian crochet sweater has already grown quite a bit. It’s not at all tight and stiff, as you think. There are such great lace patterns—they make everything stretchy.

On the side, I’m also working on a new fidget blanket. I can take my time with that until October and just keep knitting at it every now and then.

Have fun with your June projects.

Ida, this is a great opportunity... you can bring a UFO in for a landing. ;-)

Yes, Marion, I’ve already got a few things planned. Right now, I just don’t get to knit as often as I’d like. I’ll probably carry that one project over into July. I’m not sure yet if I’ll be able to finish anything at all this month. We’ll see... I’ll keep you updated here.

Here are the three hairbands for now—I’m going to crochet one more of the colorful ones; that one turned out too long, so I’m keeping it for myself.

I’m looking forward to your pictures, Ida. It’s just like a knitting circle where we show each other everything. Really great! :-)

I’ve finished 4 headbands now. 3 of them are already packed up and will be mailed to my granddaughter tomorrow. Here’s what they look like—all knitted from leftover yarn: I just took this picture... the lighting isn’t ideal, but at least you can see them.

I’m currently working on three projects and have changed my mind yet again. Not entirely by choice—since I accidentally knitted with needles half a size thicker than I intended, my top is now turning into a tunic after all. Yeah, that’s how it goes.

And once again… I have a baby dress on my needles… with a “grow-with-me” feature, of course. I tried out a new lace pattern and (re)learned how to knit it, and it looks absolutely lovely. I figured it out from a piece I knitted over 30 years ago and finally got it right. :-) I haven’t found it in any craft magazine or online yet.

Well, and then I’m also continuing to knit my vest. I don’t know yet how far I’ll get in June. It’s possible that all three projects will end up as UFOs in July.

Since I’ve changed my plans and am running out of various colors, I placed another (larger) yarn order yesterday. Of course, I wanted to save on shipping, so I’ve already stocked up on yarn in different colors. I also included winter yarn, so starting in August at the latest, I’ll easily be able to do a yarn diet again for half a year.

With enough supplies on hand, I really enjoy using up as much as possible. Before that, though, I still want to visit Waltraud at Wollkörberl in July—so dieting is out of the question then. But after that...

I’ll post a photo of one of my projects by tomorrow at the latest. Since the other two are for the color challenge, I won’t be able to show them until the end of July.

So, I’ve finished some things. I started the “soul warmer” (pattern at CP) back in late April, crocheted it in a flash, and then
it had to wait until I got the final measurements from my mom. I almost managed
to finish it in May, but my back went out and I wasn’t in the mood to sew it together and crochet in the elastic
;-)

My other piece wouldn’t fit in, for whatever reason. So here’s my vest (pattern also available on CP). It was really easy and crocheted up super fast.

I’ve been in a bad crochet mood lately. At the moment I’m not crocheting, I’m trying to sort out the yarn chaos Anton created. The pattern I picked out is also a bad fit for this yarn, or maybe the yarn is the problem... First I’m going to try to turn the chaos into a ball of yarn again, and then I’ll unravel my blanket attempt again.
Right now I’m wondering whether I should throw the yarn away. But actually it’s so beautiful. Just difficult to work with, since the thickness keeps changing

Well, you’ve all been super hard at work and have created some great pieces.

I’m still working on my first project—for some reason, things just aren’t going quite right this month. Either I didn’t have time or I just didn’t feel like it.
Maybe I’ll still manage to finish my sweater by the beginning of next week—there’s not much left to do.

I wish you all a wonderful weekend.

Your projects turned out really great. I set my tangled ball of yarn aside and picked up a new one. Now I’m trying a new pattern. Let’s see if it works better with this yarn—and if not, I’ll get rid of it.

Wow, you’ve all been so hard at work and finished some great pieces. Marion, I especially love your sweater.

And I also like the vest and soul warmers you made, Michaela.

Arni, don’t worry about it. The main thing is that Anton had fun. Maybe you’ll still make friends with the yarn. For me, it’s currently that unloved bouclé yarn that’s been sitting in the drawer forever, waiting to be turned into something beautiful. And that’s exactly what I’m doing right now. I spent the whole weekend working on three projects, knitting diligently in the garden in the most beautiful weather, and I’ve made great progress. I ran out of one color for the two color projects. I can’t continue until I get more of it. Once I’ve finished both, I’ll show one of them here, though that might not be until July.

But here’s my vest made from that unloved yarn—first before the weekend and then tonight:

I’m knitting on circular needles, working the front and back together with over 200 stitches...

Mowi: You’ve really gotten a lot done. I can’t knit, so I might be asking a totally silly question: why is there a red thread sewn in there?

I haven’t been able to do much crocheting lately.  Since we’re on vacation, we’re naturally doing a lot of things—the full tourist experience. A boat ride on Königssee, today we went for a walk (you can’t really call it hiking with a stroller) along Wolfgangsee, and so on.

And then, of course, the World Cup is on right now, too.

Yes, Sandra, Ruth is right. I pull a different-colored thread through every 10th row so I can count them up more easily. I always do that when I’m knitting. Especially when I don’t have stripes or other landmarks. It’s particularly helpful with this lumpy yarn. I made a bit more progress tonight.

Sandra, your road trip sounds really great. We were at Lake Wolfgang last year—we really love it there. For us, it’s only about 200 km to drive.

Have a good night!

Best regards from Monika

Yes, Lake Wolfgang is truly gorgeous.... There are just so many Asians. :-))))
The vacation is really nice, too. For the food alone. I love Bavarian/Austrian cuisine.

We actually want to go to the Kehlsteinhaus today. But it looks so cloudy. We’ll see. Otherwise, maybe to Salzburg.

My UFOs are doing well. I’ve picked one that should actually be able to “land” this month.

Here’s the proof photo for now.

I actually finished and posted a UFO a long time ago.

Now I’m almost done with my June project—the vest will actually be finished this week and already looks great—and fits perfectly. Here’s a sneak peek—I just need to add the embellishment.

Two more projects are still in progress and will carry over into July as UFOs.

Hi everyone. I really haven’t crocheted at all this month. My other hobby has completely taken over my time. I hope I can finally finish the shawl I started back in April. I’m going to a knitting meetup on Friday. On Saturday, I’m taking a sewing class again. We’ll see how that goes. But I’ll be back in the swing of things in July. I still have to finish my Granny Square blanket and various other UFOs. But my inner slacker is still quiet. Haven’t bought any new yarn. Best regards

My UFO is finished.

The shawl had 9 points; now it has 15. It turned out smaller than the original pattern—my yarn was different, and so was the needle size.
But I like it this way, too.

Thank you, Ida,
it’s a pattern from here that I liked right away. But since mine turned out much smaller, it became a UFO. I thought long and hard about whether I should leave it that way. I admit, I was too lazy to start over and have only just gotten back to it.

But, as I said, I’m completely satisfied with the result.

Thanks, Marion—I’m glad you like it! :-) It’s one of my favorite pieces of clothing right now, and I’m glad I finally used up that stubborn yarn. The leftover yarn is going to my neighbor—she really loves it.

Yes, the stripes are crocheted on.

Meanwhile, I’ve also got some stubborn yarn.
I actually really like the yarn, but it’s not easy to find a pattern that works with it. For days, I’ve tried out nearly ten different patterns, and I didn’t like any of them.

Now I’ve finally found one. So the June project is turning into a July one after all.

@arni

Three guesses. Of course, it’s another sweater.

I once crocheted a baby hat from this yarn—it looked so good. That’s why I bought more of it right away back then.
But you just can’t see many patterns with this yarn, and stockinette or garter stitch alone is too boring for me.

I just ordered some hemp yarn (blended with cotton) and am curious to see what it’s like.

Marion, I can totally picture a sweater made from that yarn. It’ll definitely look great. I feel the same way you do. Just knitting stockinette stitch is too boring for me. But you could add some accents by knitting a few stripes of solid-colored yarn in between. Of course, the yarn would need to have a similar yardage. I’m guessing you’ll definitely be able to find something in your stash.

Monika, I had that idea, too. But none of my many cotton leftovers really matched, or there wasn’t enough.
After a long search, I found an older design again—it’s solid-colored but has several patterns.

Marion, the yarn is so beautifully colorful—it’s almost worth knitting something really simple. How about knitting the cuffs in a solid color, for example? Maybe you have enough leftover yarn for that?

Monika,
I like the sweater better in a solid color; that way it goes with more outfits.
I don’t need ribbing with this cast-on either.

Marion, that looks great—there’s already a pretty pattern there.
I’m excited to see your sweater; I already like it. I like it nice and colorful, too.

Have a great weekend, everyone. We’re heading to a campground now until tomorrow, and tonight we’re hitting the dance floor. A friend of ours (from Sicily) is singing there tonight. :-)

Oh, and bamboo—that’s just viscose :-) But it’s great to knit with!

On Friday, I finished my skirt, using a pattern that had been waiting around for a while. My son was kind enough to hold it up for me ;-)

Oh, and the buttons are still missing... since my mother-in-law, a seamstress, has millions of them at home, I’m going to go rummage through them today.

Ida, I had no idea that viscose comes from bamboo—learned something new again. ;-)

Actually, viscose is a man-made fiber, but it’s made from natural materials (mostly wood). Please don’t ask me exactly how that works :-)
