Dear users, dear authors,
shawls, triangle shawls, stoles, cowls, scarves and motif shawls are very popular here on Crazypatterns. That’s why there’s a dedicated project thread for them. Plus, shawls are always useful as a color-coordinated accessory, for keeping warm on cold days, and as sun protection on hot days. So this topic is fascinating in every season.
Blankets fit in here too, of course, because blankets are (to put it simply ) really just larger shawls, more or less. : ) You need blankets in winter to keep warm and in summer for picnics. = Essential.

This is meant to become a kind of crafting circle for anyone who enjoys making shawls by hand or designing corresponding patterns. = Having fun together with a topic everyone likes.

You are very welcome to share free patterns here; the participating users and authors will surely appreciate that. I will remove paid patterns. Please do not advertise in posts. No references along the lines of “you can find the pattern for the shawl in my shop” or “visit my shop,” etc., etc. The signature offers enough space for things like that.

I trust that you will help each other if needed.
If there is a problem with one of the patterns here on Crazypatterns, you can also message the author directly. Okay, I’m excited to see whether you’ll join in.

You can share your current projects here. Photos are always a good idea.
You can also write here about what you enjoy so much about making shawls, etc., by hand.

So I’ll get the ball rolling.
I just happened to start a blanket today. It’s a great way to use up my leftover yarn. It won’t be a very big blanket. I’ll make small and larger pieces by crocheting, knitting, and using Tunisian crochet.
Kind of like a patchwork blanket—I’ll also sew on a few appliqués. So hopefully it’ll turn out really colorful.

Here’s a picture of how it’s starting out.

Marion, that’s a great idea! I think I really will collect my swatches and stitch samples and put them together someday.

I’m currently working on a triangular shawl for my stepmother. Unfortunately, I don’t have a picture on hand right now (yet again ;)), but I’m personally thrilled with it :D I’m just a little unsure, though...
She always wears her existing shawl only as a neck scarf, not as a shoulder shawl.

With a 3-ply yarn cake, 1000 m, and a very openwork pattern, the shawl will be rather large to wear as a neck scarf.

Do you think a petite woman (1.55–1.60 m) can wear a shawl like this, or does it look silly and should I make a new, smaller one? I don’t want her to get lost in it :)
But I also want to use up the whole yarn cake because the color gradient is so beautiful :D

Maybe someone here has the same build and can show me a photo of themselves wearing it :)

Dear Tina,

my mom is a bit taller, I think 165 cm, and also a bit curvier. And shawls with lace patterns are just the right thing for her. They soften the look and don’t add bulk, like many cozy ones often do.

I unfortunately don’t have a photo of my mom wearing one. She often wears shawls over her shoulders because she gets cold quickly. But it always looks great. I also enjoy making them for her.

The last thing I made for her was a cape, and I had the same concerns because it hangs down long in the back. A friend with the same build tried it on for me. It was simply great, and my mom loves it.

@ Mel

This is roughly what the blanket is supposed to look like; we call it a “fidget blanket.” It’s for people with dementia.
I’ve already embellished a few, though someone else knitted them.

Dear Pe-Ka,

thank you so much for your opinion :)
I’ll just finish it now and give it to her.
If necessary, I’ll just make a new one. But I also think it should fit :)

My fidget blanket has grown a tiny bit. I crocheted a bunny for Easter on the side.

This messy pile will eventually become the shawl ;)
I’m already on the second-to-last color! I’ll finish it this week—yay :)(By the way, next to it you can see a decades-old crocheted doily that’s been around longer than I have :))

Good morning, the sensory blanket is great. I crocheted a granny square blanket for my grandson when he was born. Unfortunately, it’s now sitting in the closet because he said there’s nothing on it. He said there were neither cars nor animals. That wouldn’t have happened with a “sensory blanket.”

Have a sunny day

I’ll do my best. It will be donated to a facility for people with dementia.

I’m also crocheting a new shawl at the moment, but I still need to take a picture of it. I can show you a photo of my DIP (blanket in progress), though.

It’s going to be made up of lots of squares like this. I’ve actually added a few more in the meantime. But it’s definitely a long-term project!

@iglinz

I hope you have fun with it. Just don’t make it too big, then it’ll go faster — *grin*.

It’s sure to turn out beautiful.

Thank you! The idea is for it to be big enough for two people...

How are your shawls coming along?

A curious question: What do you mean by “Nesteldecken”? I’ve never come across that term before.
My baby blanket is coming along, but I underestimated the work involved—the pattern is very simple, but it just takes time... When it’s finished, I’ll post a picture.

@Christina
First of all, congratulations on your new grandson.

Fidget blanket? I can explain that to you.

I’m in a knitting and crochet group. We donate lots of items, for example to nursing homes. There are people with dementia there. These fidget blankets are meant for them. These people need something to keep them occupied, and the blankets are ideal for that. They are colorful and not too big. With appliqués, pockets, zippers, as well as buttons or different types of yarn, they can keep their hands busy with them. I’ve also worked in crinkly foil before. The blankets are well received.
“Nesteln” is actually a word that’s better known here in our area. It simply means tugging, playing, or keeping busy.
I’ll show you again what a blanket like that looks like.

Thank you very much, Marion. I’m already familiar with the verb “nesteln,” and now I also understand what that has to do with a blanket—I can observe my godmother (95 and getting a little more confused all the time) constantly fiddling with something.
I think the blanket is great—if I’m seeing this correctly, besides the different colors, there are also different patterns throughout. I might pass this idea along to our knitting group, which unfortunately I can hardly join anymore because it takes place on my babysitting day. Is the image copyrighted, or would it be okay for me to use it?

That’s right, there are different patterns. This makes it more interesting for patients and also keeps knitting from getting boring.

I took the photo myself, so there are no issues.
If you’d like to do the same, I’d love to see a photo from you too.

Best regards, Marion

Hi Josefa

I can see the post from 9:57. But I later received an email saying that Christina had replied to my post. I clicked on it and then replied to her. However, those two posts aren’t visible here.

This is the first time this has happened, and I don’t understand where the posts went.

I’ve passed it on, but I can’t promise a quick solution.
Could you possibly summarize your missing post again as a temporary solution?

Hello Josefa

I just noticed that when I go to my account and click on “My Comments in the Forum,” my missing post—the one I wrote at 1:06 p.m.—appears there.

Maybe that helps?

That one shawl I posted as a jumbled mess is finished :)
Yay!
Now I just don’t know who’s getting it—my mom or my stepmom. We’ll see :D

The next shawl (which I’ve already started on the side—hehehe) is more than halfway done, too!
It’s going to be a simple, slightly modified half-granny shawl in light spring colors! :) (My lunch break project)
If I remember, I’ll post a photo tonight!

It'll be autumn soon. A cozy shawl is perfect for cool evenings.
Do you already have enough triangle shawls / stoles / soul warmers?

No shawls, but my blanket is still a work in progress. It’s about 160 cm wide, and the final length isn’t set yet. Because of the pattern, I’m not making as much progress as I’d like, but it’s pretty chilly here today (16 degrees), so I’d like to keep knitting.

I believe you when you say the pattern doesn’t go very fast. In any case, it looks great in the end—it’s beautiful, with lovely colors.

My motif blanket, which I’ve already mentioned, might be finished next fall :D

Shawls... I have a few.
But you can never have enough
