Today I’m sharing another update—I’m still experimenting with patterns. It’s turning out to be a bit harder than I expected. For some reason, the patterns aren’t turning out the way they’re supposed to.
I’ve attached an example of the offset cross pattern. The top photo is from the really great book I bought, and the yellow pattern is the one I crocheted—it looks quite different, doesn’t it? Even though I don’t think it’s ugly, it bugs me that I can’t get the original right.

I really enjoy trying new things, and I keep at it until I get it right. So I’ll keep practicing diligently—and in the meantime, I’ll just come up with my own variations on the patterns :- ).
How’s it going with you guys??????

You’re not allowed to upload images that don’t belong to you here.
I therefore have to remove your example image.
But you can upload a picture of your result again.

Okay, so here again is my result for the offset crossed stitch; unfortunately, I can’t show you what the original looks like. In any case, my result looks different from how it’s supposed to look.

I’m checking in with you all again.
Petra, I’m still experimenting too. So far, I’ve tried eight patterns, including the offset cross pattern. While doing so, I noticed that a mistake had crept into the instructions. The end should read:
“Repeat the 2nd forward and return pass and the 3rd forward and return pass continuously.”
Maybe that’s the reason for your mistake, if your pattern looks different.
This is what mine looks like after I followed my own instructions.

Petra, on the right side is the offset cross pattern. The left side in yellow is the Tunisian cross stitch.

I’m having trouble with the cord pattern. It just isn’t working out.
It always ends up crooked for me. I just don’t understand exactly where I’m supposed to insert the hook. I’ve tried it several times and had to rip it out again and again.
Maybe I’ll try it again in a few days.

Finally, two more samples that worked out well.
The Tunisian star stitch in white and purple
The horizontal stitch between vertical strands in green.

Petra, I just looked at your picture enlarged. The cross stitch is correct after all; you just made a basic stitch in between, but that only belongs in the first row.

The pattern is beautiful this way too.

@ Christina
Glad you’re interested in Tunisian crochet too. Hopefully you’ll find the time to give it a try someday, but be careful—I think it’s absolutely “addictive” ;-)

@Marion
Thanks so much for your help. Yes, it was probably a typo, and I actually just made one too many basic stitches, so it worked this time :)

I’m having the same problems with the cord pattern. Especially with the edge and the insertion point, I’m not quite sure whether it’s correct.

The two patterns you tried out are cool too, especially the two-coloured one. So far, the only one that has worked for me is the single-colour rib pattern.

I’ll keep at it, and with mutual help it’ll work out ☺☺☺☺

@Petra

I’m glad I could help you. Your pattern turned out beautifully, too.

I found some videos on YouTube today about Tunisian crochet. The cord stitch is included there as well. Now I understand it better. Take a look—it’s explained really well (Veronika Hug).

Have a wonderful rest of your Sunday.

@Marion

Thanks for the tip.
I’ve already checked YouTube—is it the video with the basket weave pattern? I’ve seen that one too and tried it out, but I’m still getting a crooked edge.

New motto: “Can we do this? Yo, we can do this!”

I wish you a wonderful Sunday too

@Petra, yes, that’s it.
Did you notice that you’re not supposed to make an extra chain stitch at the end of the row?

I’ll definitely try it again. Let’s see if it works then. In the video, it’s straight.
I’ll know better tomorrow.

Hi everyone, I haven’t gotten around to trying out the tricky cord pattern yet today. I’m currently working on editing my signature, but either the images are too small or blurry, or, or, or.................
Somehow, nothing seems to be working out right now. But I’ll keep at it :-)

@Petra

Your signature looks great.
I’m having the same trouble with this tricky pattern. I can do the stitch perfectly, but the problem is always the edge stitch at the end. I almost think you just have to pull the pattern tight when sewing it together, and there’s really no other way. In any case, I’m not going to try this any further for now.

I finished my blanket today. It features twelve different Tunisian crochet patterns; the rest is knitted.

I’m really enjoying it now, and I already have new ideas for
what I’d like to crochet next.

Here’s what my own creation looks like.

Dear Marion,
the blanket turned out absolutely amazing! I’m totally thrilled!!! Now I’m really itching to try out the different stitch patterns myself. For now, I can only do the basic Tunisian crochet stitch—I’m currently making a sweater with it. But I’m also really interested in the other stitch patterns.

@Marion,

Your blanket turned out great. I’ve put crocheting that pattern aside for now—the cord pattern was getting on my nerves too much :-(
Instead, I crocheted a green pot holder that had been ordered, with plush as requested. Plush yarn isn’t that easy to crochet with anyway, but I’d actually advise against it for Tunisian crochet.

Have a lovely weekend.
Best regards, Petra

@ Petra, Christina, and Sofis—I’m glad you like the blanket.

Petra,
your potholder looks cool in green. I feel exactly the same way as you do about that silly pattern. I won’t be trying it again anytime soon.

Sofis
You can also make beautiful pieces using just the basic stitch—see Petra’s potholder. I crocheted it in two and three colors for the blanket. It looks great and is easy to do.
I’ll show it to you here again in a larger image.

Marion, your blanket is amazing—not only is it an eye-catcher thanks to the different patterns, but the resulting varied textures also make it perfect as a sensory blanket.

I’d love to try out the cord pattern you mentioned—I just need to figure out where to get the pattern (I’m sure it’s also available to buy separately somewhere).

I can imagine that plush yarn doesn’t work well for Tunisian crochet—huge respect, Petra, for managing it, and it looks great!

Wow, you’ve been so busy!! Hats off to you! :-)

Marion, your blanket is an absolute showstopper—it turned out super cool!
Petra, your new green potholder is just as cool. I tried crocheting with fuzzy yarn once and then gave up. It’s a real challenge, and it really makes me lose the desire to crochet.

I really admire you all for your Tunisian patterns. To be honest, I’m not really in the mood for it (yet) right now, because I have a few projects in mind that are waiting to be knitted and crocheted. Who knows, maybe that will come later...

In any case, I hope you all continue to have fun, and I’ll pop in here more often. It’s just so nice to admire your amazing creations. :-)

I’m in on this because I’m a huge fan of Tunisian crochet, and I’m enjoying the project—even though things have quieted down a bit here lately. I’m currently working on a door wreath using the basic Tunisian stitch.

I’ve been putting the pattern on the back burner for now, but I’ll definitely get back to it.

Best wishes, Petra

I already saw that you got some awesome Tunisian crochet hooks for your birthday.

Thank you, Petra
So far, I’ve only had one hook with a cord—I used it to crochet the green sweater, and it worked wonderfully. For the blanket, I crocheted wider stripes, which didn’t work so well with the stiff hook, especially with patterns.
That’s why I wanted longer hooks in different sizes—my birthday came at just the right time.

I wish you a happy Easter.

Christina, I’m curious to see what your first Tunisian crochet project looks like. It’s really addictive—it’s already got me hooked.
Regarding your question: Only the sleeves are knitted. The sweater’s hem is also done in Tunisian crochet. That way, you can see it better.

You can also do Tunisian crochet in the round.
For this, you’ll need two balls of yarn and a crochet hook with two hooks.
Use one ball to crochet forward and the other to crochet back.
You’ll need to turn your work now and then as you go.

Ignore the waviness for now — it will flatten out.

Hello, dear all,
I’ve finished my next Tunisian project, this time a hot water bottle cover for my husband, who loves lighthouses and hot water bottles.

I got the idea from a pattern I bought.
Actually, I just wanted to crochet something very simple from a pattern as a distraction, but then the Tunisian crochet hook smiled at me so sweetly and I adapted the whole thing.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My door wreath is finished too, including the pattern, which I just posted. I think you can do so much with Tunisian crochet. At the moment, I find the simple stitch the most versatile, as you can see.
@Lisa / Creatowl
Thanks for the tip!
I knew it could also be crocheted in the round, but your version is new to me. I’ll try that next. Are the stitches increased the same way as in regular crochet?
Wishing all of you a relaxed Easter weekend with a bit of spring weather
So, my first Tunisian crochet project is finished!  While I was searching our closet for a bare hanger, I found one with the initials of my father, who passed away in 1989, and now it has a new outfit! I unraveled the second half again this morning because the fabric kept getting tighter. Was it a beginner’s mistake, or was it the change in crochet hook? I already have some ideas for new projects...
@ Christina,
For your first piece, it turned out really great. The fact that it’s getting tighter probably has to do with you not being that experienced yet. It’s great that you’re joining in; I’m already looking forward to your next projects. I think it’s wonderful what’s being created here.
I’m back to working on that d......... cord pattern again, since I don’t have any other project right now.
Keep having fun!
Marion, I still owe you an answer: Yes, you were absolutely right—besides the blue basic stitches (which I soon got bored with!), I tried the Tunisian cross stitch in the beige stripes. Next, I’m going to try the bobbles and the left Tunisian knit stitch. I should be getting the needles I ordered soon, too!
Hi
how’s it going? We haven’t heard anything in a while. Isn’t anyone trying anything new?
Mel, how’s your cord pattern coming along?
My daughter liked the basic pattern from my blanket. I was surprised, because she’s not usually a fan of crochet projects.
So now I get to crochet her a shopping bag.
I found some sock yarn in my stash—I hardly ever use it. I’ve started on it; let’s see how it turns out.
Yeah, things have gotten a bit quiet around here lately. I’m still experimenting with different patterns, but nothing concrete is coming of it.
I’ve also tried crocheting in rounds like Lisa described, but I haven’t quite got the hang of it yet.
The cord pattern is coming along for me, but the edge still ends up crooked.
Strangely enough, it looks straight in the photos?!?!
It must really be true, as Marion wrote before, that everything gets pulled straight when you sew it together.
Marion, I’m looking forward to your next project—I think you’re incredibly creative when it comes to coming up with ideas.
Thanks, Petra. It’s true—I usually come up with something. I often see a knitting pattern I like, and then it turns into a sweater.
But I also have countless pattern books and magazines. For me, it’s enough to see the patterns and have the measurements.
I still need to figure something out for the bag, because I don’t quite have enough yarn. But there’s no rush.
I’m sure I’ll come up with an idea. My summer sweater (my second UFO) is more important to me right now than the bag. Plus, I’m crocheting a loop scarf on the side.
I’m curious to see who’ll be the first to finish a new Tunisian crochet project.
As I mentioned, I’m not doing much Tunisian crochet right now, but I’ll definitely stick with these stitches. I’m going on vacation soon, and I’ll be packing my Tunisian hooks and leftover yarn.
Now I just need to decide on a pattern, and then I’ll probably crochet something summery.
So, I’m jumping in ;-)
I got my Tunisian hook in size 4 today and immediately attached a cord ;-) Then I watched a video on the basic stitch, and it’s really easy. True to the motto “go big or go home,” I started right away with a blanket for the cats. 80 stitches. Going pretty well so far. I’ll be adding a second color soon, but first I should do a few more rows to really get into the swing of things.
I’m glad you’re doing Tunisian crochet now—I think it’s funny that you call your hook the “Tunisian lady.”
Actually, Tunisian crochet isn’t really that slow; that’s probably because it’s still new to you.
The idea for the potholder pattern isn’t mine. I’m working from a pattern in a book by Veronika Hug. I chose the colors myself, though, using yarn from my stash. The second one is almost finished too, with a different pattern. I don’t think a pair of potholders always has to be exactly the same.
There are such great patterns in the book that I simply have to try them out.
It’s a new Tunisian crochet technique - an entrelac pattern.
I hope you have a lovely holiday; is it just as hot where you are?
Yeah, it’s gotten really quiet here—too bad, because I personally really like this thread. I’m still on vacation, but once I’m back home, I’ll be more active again.
I’ve now found my pattern for the new project.
It’s not that hard, but it’s going pretty slowly. From this afternoon until now, I’ve only managed 12 rows. That’s why I’m making a top instead of a sweater.
Here’s how it looks so far:
Marion, that looks great—I’d love to try out the pattern right away—what’s it called and where can I find it?
Marion, I really like the pattern, too. I can totally picture making a summer top with it because it looks so nice and airy.
@ChritinaE and Sofis Welt
I really like the pattern too, but it’s really progressing at a snail’s pace. I’ll have to think of something.
It’s in this book and doesn’t have a name—just a lace pattern.
Found it at Weltbild, ISBN 978-3-8289-8050-1
@Marion
I’m totally thrilled again—great pattern. I especially love that you’re making it your own; maybe you should start writing patterns too :-) I’m excited to see your result.
I’m currently experimenting and don’t really have a clear idea yet.
Petra,
I’m not exactly sure yet how the top will turn out. Since progress is moving at a snail’s pace, I’m afraid it might end up as a UFO.
I might end up crocheting different stitch patterns; otherwise, it won’t be finished until fall.
Once it’s grown a bit, I’ll show it to you again.
I’m sure you’ll come up with something great again—your maritime collection is just amazing. Your gorgeous wreaths just don’t match my decor, but I think they’re absolutely beautiful.
Hi Petra and fellow readers
My sweater or top has actually turned out a bit longer.
I decided on a few stitch patterns to make it go faster.
Petra, I hope you’re happy with my work. This is the back piece; I’m almost at the top. For the front piece, I’m not quite sure yet how the neckline will turn out.
This is what it looks like so far.
@ Marion
Yeah..... ☺☺ ☺☺☺☺☺☺☺ As expected, I’m very happy with it—it already looks great. The main thing, of course, is that you like it.
Definitely another cool idea with the pattern mix. I could definitely see a deeper boat neckline working well.
Yeah, you’re right. That goes well with this straight cut.
I might try a V-neck sometime. I’ll decide when I’m ready. If it gets too complicated, I’ll go with a boat neck.
Phew, I did it.
My top, a custom design, is finally finished.
Here are two pictures.
Marion, your top turned out great—I couldn’t even imagine that Tunisian crochet would work for that! I always pictured a very dense fabric…
Our book has some beautiful patterns that are suitable for sweaters. They include chain stitches in between, which are perfect for that. If you use a larger hook size, it’ll turn out even airier.
Why not give it a try? I’ve already made the top shown in it.
By the way, thanks for your praise.
