My latest piece is finished (gallery). I already have an idea for the next project, but unfortunately no time yet. I want to finish a UFO and am also knitting on the side.

How’s everyone else doing? I think our numbers are dwindling.

I just made an angel potholder, but the pattern for it won’t be available until autumn.

Once I’ve finished my other projects I’ve started, I’ll dare to try a garment.
Marion gave me the idea; her pieces are so great!!!!!

I don’t have an idea or a pattern yet, but I’ll keep at it.
It’s a shame that there are fewer and fewer of us here; I think this technique is soooo... great and versatile too.

I’m curious to see what you’ll come up with—the book has such lovely patterns.

@Marion & Josefa
Thanks for the compliment :-)

Yes, I’m excited too!!!!!
I’ve already tried out lots of patterns, but I always end up sticking with the basic pattern since I mostly crochet decorative pieces, and it’s just perfect for that.
My plan is to make a piece of clothing, and I’ll probably have to tinker with it quite a bit—there are really great patterns in the book, so it’s hard to decide. I can really picture the shell pattern—Marion, have you ever crocheted the shell pattern before, and is it suitable for clothing?

Since I still have three projects in progress, it’ll probably be an autumn or winter design.

Another really beautiful pot holder, Petra!
Unfortunately, I don’t have time for Tunisian crochet right now, even though my fingers are itching to get started—especially when I see the beautiful things you all have made! But small birthday gifts and baby items just have to take priority!

I just tried out the shell stitch. It’s suitable for clothing, but maybe more so for summer pieces. It almost looks like an openwork pattern, at least to me. But that might also be due to the
yarn; I used cotton.
Here’s my attempt: it’s the shell stitch and the small shell stitch from our book.

@Marion,
thank you so much—it’s great that you’re going to all this trouble to help me. I also think the pattern is more of a summer thing.
Also, thank you so much for the tips on finding a suitable needle. Unfortunately, I can only find wooden or bamboo needles that come with a cord, and I haven’t had very good experiences with those.

The ones I found from Knit Pro don’t come with a cord—is it possible to buy the needles and the cord separately?

I’m only familiar with KnitPro’s wooden and bamboo needles with cables, and they work well for me.

You can buy these needles as a set or individually. Cables, connectors, and needles are also available separately. As I said, I have a set.

Maybe someone else knows more about this and can help you out.

Have a great weekend.

@Marion,
first of all, thank you very much for your advice. I’ll have to dig out my bamboo needles again.
By the way, I also tried the shell pattern but decided against it because it’s too airy.

I also had to tinker with it for a while until I got the edge just the way I like it and the pattern straight.
I’ll keep looking for the right pattern :-) I’m getting sidetracked again—I actually wanted to finish the other projects first.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Petra

I’m feeling exactly the same way right now. I was still working with yarn from my stash. Now I’ve picked one that’s driving me crazy. First I crocheted with it, but you couldn’t see the pattern. Then I knitted it—it was too loose and I didn’t like it. The next pattern wasn’t any good either. I think I’ve finally found the right one.

I just took a longer break and hope that something will still come together this month.

I’m sure I will. The back will be a solid color.

I’m working with stash yarn because I’m on a yarn diet, so you get color variations like that.
But it looks good—it’s dark gray and tangerine.

Sometimes, great combinations come from yarn stashes that have been sitting around for ages.
I haven’t made much progress on my project yet.
The only thing I have so far is a design—it’s going to be a poncho, which isn’t too difficult to start with.

Have a nice weekend

Are you making a project from the book?

In any case, I wish you the best of luck—I’m sure you’ll do a great job.

I’m curious to see how it turns out.

Have a wonderful weekend, too.

The project isn’t from the book, but I think the patterns will come from it, at least that’s what I think anyway.

I’d like to incorporate at least two different patterns, but I’m still tinkering with that. As I said, I don’t have any yarn yet, and I’m still looking for the perfect crochet hook.

I still can’t quite do without Tunisian crochet, so I tried out another pattern (again, almost entirely in basic stitch, of course). Let’s see what this might turn into. Maybe a back piece or something for a pot holder.

You can make a lot with this pattern—it looks great. Maybe even a sweater or jacket.

What kind of pattern is this? Double crochet or relief stitch?
I like it, anyway.

My second pot holder was already finished. Then I noticed there was a mistake, so I unraveled the whole thing again.
Annoying, but it was obvious.
I started over and am already halfway through again.

I don’t know what the pattern is called, but in any case it’s super easy; I’ll try to explain it briefly.

The stitch count must be divisible by 6; I changed color every 3rd row.
Right side row:
  • 5 stitches in the basic pattern
  • then pull up the yarn from the hole before the stitch and a loop after the stitch, also from the hole (so 2 loops are pulled up long)
  • again 5 stitches in the basic pattern, etc.
Wrong side row:
  • as usual, 2 loops together
  • up to the elongated loops; there, work 3 together
  • repeat to the end of the row
that’s all, easy, right?

That thing with the mistake is annoying—was it in the chart? Then I’ll need to change it.

Petra, your pattern is correct.
I was just being silly and simply didn’t count properly. If I’d checked properly beforehand, I wouldn’t have had to unravel everything.
But never mind. In any case, it’s turning out beautifully.
I’ll make each reverse side a solid color. When I’ve finished them, I’ll put them in the gallery.

I’ll give your pattern a try.

I’m really curious to see how this turns out.

I haven’t made any progress yet. I want to keep knitting my sweater first so it doesn’t turn into a UFO.
I already have an idea, but I want to make something with a mix, and I need to find the right yarn first.
I still have time, after all.

I’m excited myself!!!!!!
Now I’m also looking for the right yarn and, as I said, a crochet hook with a cord that I can work with comfortably.
Next week I’ll head to a specialty store so I can feel the yarn and the hook for myself.

I went through my yarn stash and found something.
Since it’s thicker and warmer yarn, it’ll be a fall project.

I crocheted a swatch and think it’ll look good when it’s finished.
Now I just need to do the math, and then I’ll get started.
The pattern looks better in person than it does in the picture.

I’m really curious to see how it goes—my project isn’t making any progress right now. This week went completely differently than planned :-(
But I’ll keep at it; maybe I’ll start by making a pot holder just to pass the time—I can work on that in the evenings while watching TV.

In any case, I admire your work and am impressed by the great original designs you come up with; I hope we get to see many more of them.

Have a nice rest of your Sunday

Hey there, anyone around?
It’s gotten really quiet here—too bad. I thought this awesome crochet technique would get more people excited. Well, I’m definitely sticking with it, some days more, some days less.

I’ve finally found a pattern for my project, so I can get started soon. My garment will be a poncho made using Tunisian crochet with two patterns; I’ve decided on cotton yarn because that’s what makes the patterns look best (in my opinion).
Now I just need to find the right color—it definitely won’t be pink like on the swatch. I’m not a fan of pink.

Finished projects are potholders in the basic stitch again.

@Marion, I’m still stuck on designing a chart for the seagull; somehow they always turn into ducks :-), but I’ll get there.

How’s it going for the rest of you?

Hello there!

Petra, I just discovered your new pot holder. It looks really great again.

A duck has something to do with water, after all.

I’m sure you’ll get your seagull done. I’m not making much progress right now either. I want to crochet a jacket with the houndstooth pattern
. I’ve already started, but I’m only at 5 cm so far. It’s not that urgent, since it’s a thicker project. I also have two sweaters in the works on the side (one knitted, one crocheted), and those take priority right now.

But I plan to keep crocheting on the jacket in between. Once it’s grown a bit, I’ll post a picture.

Thanks, Petra. Some years ago, back in 1999, I bought a magazine that featured sweaters like these.
I liked them right away and have already recreated a few. That’s how you come up with patterns that go well together on your own. It’s not so boring, and not everyone has something like that. Since I enjoy Tunisian crochet so much, I thought I’d just give it a try.
It definitely won’t be my last one.

Dear Marion,
thank you for your lavish praise—I really like the potholders; the color combination is great. It’s also nice that they were well received as a gift.

I completely unraveled my project last night :-( and I had almost finished the back piece. The problem is that I want to work points/spikes along one side as an edging. That worked well too, but it looked pretty wonky and I didn’t like it at all.
Now I’m starting over from scratch and have to think about how to make it look nice. Maybe I need to work the points in a different pattern.

Have a nice weekend

Hi girls,

have you tried the 7-League Pattern yet? I just watched a video about it on YouTube. Veronika Hug always carefully explains how the row starts, but I just can’t make sense of the chart. But I really like it.

2359 Posts Recent Started

Hi Michaela,

I’ve already tried the pattern, and the row start changes every other row.
You start normally with a pattern stitch once, and the next time you crochet 2 stitches together right away. Then it’s back to the pattern stitch, and so on.
It’s best to memorize the starting color sequence; as the colors change, so does the row start.

Example: RED + WHITE
With red, always start with a pattern stitch.
With white, always crochet 2 stitches together, and so on.

I hope this helped you. Have fun with Tunisian crochet :-)

I’m ashamed to admit that I’m not following this thread—too many topics at once.

I just looked through the thread and found your blanket; unfortunately, it’s not my taste this time—it’s too colorful for me (don’t take it personally).

Petra, it's no problem at all that you don't like it. I'm actually supposed to make colorful blankets for people with dementia, using leftover yarn, of course. So this is what comes out of that.

I wouldn't want it myself either, but it serves its purpose, and that's the main thing.
Here's an older one that looks better.

It’s gotten really quiet around here—what a shame.

I’m still doing Tunisian crochet; the back of my poncho is finished, and today I’m starting on the front.

Other than that, I’ve been crocheting pot holders again—it’s funny how different Santa looks; this time I worked from a chart in landscape format.

Now I’m trying my hand at Christmas decorations—I’m really tinkering away with them.

Hi Petra

I have a pattern for a Christmas wreath. I’m not making the red part with cotton, but with a red fine cable yarn.

My wreath is edged in Tunisian crochet.

I’ll start on the decorations later.

Yes, it’s opaque!!!

I think it’s great that there are no wrinkles even though the wreath is full. I love how you turn everything into your own project—I really like that :-)

I’ve put the Christmas decoration project aside; I didn’t like any of it. My poncho is growing slowly, but I work on it a little every evening. My little cat is totally into the long crochet hook.

Yes, Petra, I managed it without any folds.
Here’s a free pattern for a round wreath, but it uses single crochet and double crochet stitches. I did it in Tunisian crochet too, so there are no folds.

I’m looking forward to seeing your poncho

I’m also working on a few door wreaths in this style, but I find that they aren’t quite as opaque when made with double crochets or half double crochets—you’ve found a great solution there :-)

I’m also curious to see what the finished poncho will look like—it’s still a bit of work since I’m crocheting with a size 3 hook, which just takes time. Maybe I’ll write up a pattern for it too—we’ll see how the final result turns out.

Have a nice weekend

I haven’t continued working on my jacket either. I feel the same way. I’ll probably use a different pattern too.

Hi, is anyone else still participating???

I did some Tunisian crochet again yesterday—I ended up making a headband for myself.
Using thick yarn and a size 7 hook, I finished it quickly. The pattern is simple, too—just the basic stitch.

Hey there, yeah, it’s me :-), too bad there isn’t more activity in this thread :-(

Your headband is cool—great idea!!! Unfortunately, I don’t wear them.

I’m not really active with Tunisian crochet right now. My poncho is still sitting on the shelf waiting to be sewn together, but at the moment I still don’t have a plan or a good idea for making it look right.
Here’s a photo of my UFO

The problem is that the points are supposed to run diagonally. I’ve already managed to put it together like that, but it looks weird when I wear it. I’ll have to tinker with it some more when I feel like it.

It’s pretty quiet here right now… I don’t have anything in the works at the moment, but I’m sure things will pick up again soon.

My poncho has turned into a UFO and is waiting to finally get its finishing touches.

Hey, is anyone else here???????

Yes, I’m still here, too.
I feel exactly the same way as you do, Petra.

But I finally want to make the Husky soon.
My jacket has turned into a UFO, too. For some reason, I don’t like it anymore. I’ll probably unravel it—besides, I don’t need a thick jacket in the summer.
I’m sure I’ll come up with something else that wants to be done in Tunisian crochet.

I don’t have a project right now, but I’ll be doing some Tunisian crochet every now and then. My poncho is still a UFO, and it doesn’t look like it’ll be finished anytime soon.

Unfortunately, I still haven’t gotten around to crocheting the potholders.
I
Maybe I’ll still manage to do it this month.

I really like it, too. So far, it’s just the front piece

Petra, I just felt like continuing right away.

I modified it a bit.

Considering the design was just improvised, the potholder turned out really well. I usually make changes to the designs as I crochet them too, so that I end up with a final version.

I think I need to design a chart for myself again. Seeing your work makes me want to do Tunisian crochet again, and a potholder like this works up quickly, as you can see from yours :-)

Take a look at the original model—it belongs to our son.

I might try it one more time—I’m not quite satisfied with it yet.
