Start of Summer 2026: Hello Summer / Vacation Plans / Garden Projects / Summer Projects

Dear Community,

Summer officially began yesterday. Do you have any vacation plans? How’s your garden coming along? Are you currently working on any summer crafts?

I don’t have a garden anymore, but my balcony is blooming profusely, and I’ll be able to harvest tomatoes, too. I’m already eating fresh blueberries straight from the bush every day.

And yes, I have vacation plans too—two of them, in fact. First, I’ll be traveling across Scandinavia this summer, starting in Copenhagen and flying back from Helsinki.

And a little later, in late summer/early fall, I’ll be hiking through South Tyrol, and after that I’ll spend a few days exploring Venice.

To keep my legs cool, I’m currently only crocheting smaller amigurumi—I finished that thick sweater before the heat wave hit, and I have plenty of blankets and no plans to make any more right now, so it works out perfectly.

All this beautiful weather is really helping all the flowering plants🌷

Outside feels like a second living room with real rose-patterned wallpaper ;) 

So I’ll be spending my vacation at home…

I’m already looking forward to the extremely short and carbon-free trip ;)

Personally, I’m not really into summer—I prefer fall, when the temperatures are back to a level where I can breathe and my legs don’t swell up so badly anymore.

Petra Perle, your garden is blooming beautifully. 

It’s too hot here, and I can’t keep up with the watering. My flowers have slowed right down at the moment. I have to be careful that everything doesn’t dry out.

We don’t have any other plans right now—we were just in Greece at the end of May. 

We’re going to enjoy our lovely home—the garden, biking, hiking, reading, and crafts. That’s just right for us. 

Oh Petra, I’m so jealous of your beautiful garden 😁😉. We have a balcony, and it’s pretty big, too. I have to water almost every day, too, but it’s manageable—we’re on the east side, so the sun’s gone by early afternoon. On the other side—the west side—the neighbors are sweating it out 😰; they get sun 🌞 until late in the evening, and hardly anything grows on their balconies—it all gets scorched in the heat. 

We’ve got a vacation planned—yes, for early July, after our guests leave—to stay with friends who have a vacation rental, but it’s only for 5 days. We usually go to a vacation rental here in our region for about 5 days; we’ve already done plenty of trips farther away, so I don’t need that anymore. Besides, home is always the best place to be😉🤭—even though my husband likes to travel, I’d rather be at home.😁
