Embroidery Thread / Leftover Embroidery Thread

I also use my leftover embroidery floss and pearl cotton for eyes and noses.
When I was given a large amount of yarn as a gift, I got the idea to crochet little figures like this little owl from it.

Yarn for a café curtain

Hi Miriam,
I usually work with “Twister Crochet Yarn 100” (580 m/100 g) or “Gründl Crochet Yarn 100” (566 m/100 g).
Both are great to work with, whether for small or large projects.

Looking for testers for craft patterns: possible here

I think it’s great that this testing program exists. I’ve found that testing crochet patterns comes much more naturally to me. I haven’t knitted any samples in ages and have to get back into the swing of things, but it’s fun.

Thanks to the authors for giving us the opportunity to share our experiences and any issues we encounter.

Photographing Birds

Our great spotted woodpecker and the sparrows... a never-ending story.
I laughed until I cried when I recently saw a gang of sparrows trying to get to the fat balls, which the woodpecker was just tucking into. The woodpecker pecked them away one after another (they must have had headaches).
But the sparrows aren’t stupid, of course. In the next “attack,” some of them distracted the woodpecker while the others got to eat. Then they switched roles.
The next day, the woodpecker showed up with backup.

Why do you need TV when you can see the most amazing things right in your own backyard!

Weekend :-) What are your plans?

Wishing everyone a lovely, relaxing weekend.
I’m heading back to the Altes Land. My flower bed is waiting to be weeded.
My husband’s exact words: “I don’t even know what flowers are.”...
The new mattresses are finally here and need to be picked up. So it won’t be boring.
It’ll be too crowded again for walks along the Elbe. On the beach, they haven’t heard a thing about COVID or social distancing. The newspaper will say again, “There were no complaints.” When are the reporters actually on site? Early in the morning?...

Best regards, Marlies

Crocheting extended single crochets

It’s a “fluffier” version of the single crochet.
You insert the hook and pull the yarn through. With two loops on the hook, you now pull the working yarn through only the first loop, so that there are two loops left on the hook. You then crochet these two “normally,” pulling the working yarn through both loops.
The work won’t be as tight as it is with regular single crochet stitches.

What’s fascinating you right now?

Right now, I’ve rediscovered filet crochet. It requires me to concentrate, which helps distract me from some of my problems. And in the process, I also end up creating some beautiful things.

Pricing Problem

Thank you very much for your answers.

“Material cost x 3” wouldn’t even be an option for this piece, because that wouldn’t even come to 40 €. I wouldn’t part with it for that much, even if I were to sell it.
(If anyone asks again, “Can’t you just paint the ship?”, I won’t be giving it away—it’ll stay with me.)

It’s generally difficult to set prices for handmade items.
At craft fairs, I’ve seen things that I sold for the cost of materials plus a 5 € “tip,” but which were priced at 45 € there.
But some people aren’t even willing to pay the cost of materials. At our fall bazaar, I offered a door wreath that generated a lot of interest. I’ve seen similar ones online for as much as 30 €, but for the customers, even 15 €—the cost of materials—was too much.

Pricing Problem

My sailboat is finished, and I really like it. It turned out to be bigger (1.05 x 1.25 m) than I expected, but that’s okay.

Now I’ve been asked how much something like this would cost if it were for sale. Well, I’m completely at a loss. I have to factor in the roughly 60 hours of work, too.

I’m not selling my ship. I’d just like to know how you would set a price and what criteria you’d use.
Thanks in advance.

Best regards, Marlies

Hardworking little helpers: How are you kicking off July?

Thank you all. The pins have been removed, now it can dry thoroughly.

@ Wollbaerli:
The whole thing is crocheted in one piece and has only two ends to weave in. The only fiddly work was placing and removing the 338 pins.

38,148 stitches (ch, sc, dc), 1,500 m crochet thread, size: 1.05 x 1.25 m, half a can of spray starch, and about 60 hours of work.

With all the work on the patio, my sailboat has taken a back seat a bit. It’s fully crocheted now, but in July it still needs blocking.
