Dear users, dear authors,
do you often use embroidery thread, or do you have leftovers of it?
Would an advertising thread for this be worthwhile? Is there anything you’d like to share about embroidery thread?

I use my leftover hand-embroidery thread. Whatever’s left over when I sew teddy bears and such for babies—I use it to embroider the faces—so there’s no risk of them pulling off buttons or other small parts and swallowing them. I gave the large skeins to my daughter, since she likes to embroider by hand.

I only embroider by hand, not with a machine: tablecloths, placemats, napkins, etc., using cross-stitch. I don’t know anything about machine embroidery, but I always see some really great embroidery files here.

My last embroidery project was a large wall hanging. I have quite a bit of thread left over from that, which I’m now using for Christmas cards. I used to embroider cloth handkerchiefs, too, but nobody uses those anymore these days.
For embroidery, I mainly use embroidery floss (cotton). It has a nice sheen and washes well, too.

Oh, and I really enjoy embroidering the faces of my amigurumis. That way, they always end up with a unique facial expression. With sewn-on eyes, they often all look the same.

I happened to come across a pillow panel and a small tablecloth. Both have only been started. I have the thread. The only thing missing is the pattern for the tablecloth.

Maybe I’ll feel like working on it. I haven’t done any embroidery in ages.

I embroider every now and then. Cross-stitch or designs that I like. I transfer these onto my fabric using a special pen.

I have plenty of thread and fabric. I’ve accumulated them over the years and received a lot as gifts.

I also use my leftover embroidery floss and pearl cotton for eyes and noses.
When I was given a large amount of yarn as a gift, I got the idea to crochet little figures like this little owl from it.

How cute! How big (or small) is the owl?

This little one is about 5–6 cm tall—or rather, small. You can also vary the size by changing the hook size. This one was crocheted with a size 1.5 hook.
I always used to keep little things like this in my “you-always-have-something-in-there” box, which desperately needs to be restocked. :-)
