First Communion 2020 / Confirmation 2020 / Youth Consecration 2020

Dear users, dear authors,
as far as I know, the First Communion celebrations for 2020 have been postponed until the end of August? What about Confirmation? What’s the situation with the Protestant Youth Consecration? Are you up to date on this?

I haven’t read anything about First Communion in our village newsletter. But I can definitely see it happening in August.
Last week’s issue mentioned that Confirmation has been postponed to September. If the situation doesn’t improve, it will be rescheduled again.

We were invited to a confirmation in May. It was postponed to late September/early October. A date hasn’t been set yet.

Are there any updates?

Here in the Diocese of Limburg, all church services are prohibited until the end of May. First Communion will be rescheduled at some point, but there are no plans yet because no one knows how long the social distancing measures will last. As far as I’ve heard, the confirmations scheduled for May have also been canceled here in the area. I assume the Protestants are also waiting to see how things develop. There’s no “Jugendweihe” here; it has nothing to do with the church anyway.

This past weekend, the first church services were allowed in Hesse. In our congregation, they required advance registration and were held under strict hygiene guidelines. There was no mention of First Communion yet. Normally, First Communion is supposed to take place before Corpus Christi, but nothing is normal right now. With the current social distancing rules, it would also be difficult to accommodate all family members in the church. So there’s still nothing concrete regarding a new date.

We’ve now received word that Confirmation won’t be taking place this year. There aren’t any plans for next year yet.

I think it’s a real shame for the confirmands. The retreat, the celebration, the party—everything’s been canceled. It’s just a shame, because looking back at the photos really stays with you for the rest of your life. 

An acquaintance of mine has the confirmation scheduled for the end of October.
She’s hoping the confirmand’s next growth spurt won’t require a new suit...
