Hi, bell-bottom fan — I’m one too. Back then, the motto was “the wider, the better,” but that doesn’t have to be the case anymore.
Fashion trends sometimes do look good, but not on me. I wear what I like and what suits my figure. Walking around looking like a sausage in its casing — that’s not for me. I once said to a friend, “Didn’t they have that sweater in your size?” Boy, was she angry, but it looked awful with her “love handles” in that tight thing.
When it came to trendy colors, I thought I needed a pair of purple pants too, because I liked the color. I wore them once for Carnival, all in purple, as “the last attempt.”
For a while, I had everything in black and white. Now I’ve added a few more colors, but bright, flashy colors aren’t really my thing either.
"Büttenwarder" just isn’t the same without "Brakelmann." I usually don’t even watch the episodes without him. The ones with Jan Fedder are cult classics!
I also enjoy watching game shows. Who watches "Meister des Alltag"? You often get really good tips for everyday life there. I think
"Die Chefin" is great. A woman who knows what she wants, and “Paul” with his special connections…
“Lena Lorenz” is on again right now, and I always watch that, too.
Are there any “Immenhof” fans here? I’ve seen the old episodes at least 50 times, and there are still some parts that bring a tear to my eye.
I still watch “Unter uns,” but I haven’t watched “GZSZ” in quite a few years. “Puppemkiste” was always great. I love “Kalle Wirsch.” Sometimes I catch myself still humming the “meerkat tune” to myself…
I love “Verrückt nach Meer” whenever Captain Morton is on. He’s just so cute.
I’ve been watching the German version of “Farmer Wants a Wife” since the very first episode. When it comes to “Tatort,” I only tune in to Münster, Kiel, Hamburg (with Falke), Berlin, and Dresden—but even then, I’m sometimes disappointed.
Imelda: In the movie, Otto Waalkes plays “Catweazle.” The trailer was really good.
Sure, Petra, I’ve been busily working away, and of course I’ll post photos. At my husband’s, you go straight from the kitchen into the cold room. He’ll get that for the door for Christmas.
That looks very inviting, Monika. If I just imagine all the almonds gone, that would be something for me, too. Using coconut yogurt instead of cream is also a very good idea.
After my doctor’s appointment, I still had some time before my train left. I was missing a color for my cheese wreath. So off to the yarn shop I went. Fittingly, the shop is called “Ellas Wollhimmel” (Ella’s Yarn Heaven).
I could have bought heavenly amounts of yarn there, but I stayed strong. So one skein turned into four, but I’m definitely not done shopping there yet.
Oh, Inge, that checkered one is so chic! I really like the black-and-white three-piece set, too.
I used to have more blazers because I wore more skirts and dresses back then. Of course, I also had the classic black funeral outfit.
These days, there aren’t as many occasions where I could wear a blazer.
Blazers are actually timeless, popular, and easy to mix and match. Just say “Angela Merkel”...
I would have loved to have red blazers for my former dance group to go with our white blouses, red or blue scarves, and black pants. What did we get? Horrible red fleece jackets, some of them used (from the nursing service) and in men’s sizes (which don’t really fit women). That’s not exactly chic.
If you’re on a budget, it’s a great option—I like to buy secondhand and B-grade items. I also shop at the DRK store and Diakonie. I’ve even found new items there.
You don’t always have to buy everything brand-new when there are good used items available. More people should take advantage of this.
Back when I sought refuge at a women’s shelter, I didn’t have many belongings with me. I was glad when I was able to get free clothes at the DRK clothing bank. I also got a pair of winter boots there. I wore them for almost ten years, and I haven’t found shoes that good since.
What I really don’t understand, though, are the people who try to haggle at the DRK store. I volunteered there for a while. We had a customer who pulled up in his big SUV (pretty new) and complained because he was supposed to pay €3 for a dress shirt (new!). He complained about me to a coworker (whom he knew). I promptly got a slap on the wrist, and he ended up with three shirts for €3. That’s when I quit. Slipping things to acquaintances who don’t even need them—no, that’s not for me.
I’ve just been watching the reruns of "Little House on the Prairie" — there were still a few episodes I didn’t know yet. *Bonanza*, *High Chaparral*, *Shiloh Ranch*, *Gunsmoke*, *Fury* — I always used to watch those. Does anyone else remember "Neighbours" and "General Hospital"?
*NCIS* and *NCIS: New Orleans*, *Blue Bloods*, *Chicago Fire*, *Chicago Med* and *Chicago PD* are my current favorites. I also enjoyed watching "JAG". Well, you could say: from cowboys to people in uniform ... haha.
I like watching "Soko Hamburg", "Großstadtrevier" and "Notruf Hafenkante" because they are set in Hamburg.
I used to love "Catweazle". Has anyone seen the film yet?
I also like shows like "Klinik am Südring" and the zoo programmes, with "Leopard, Seebär Co." being my favourite, of course.
Best regards, Marlies
Right now I’m having trouble with my circular knitting needles. Some of them were stored in a box for a long time and are now “twisted” and “curled up,” so I can’t really knit with them.
Does anyone have a tip on how to get them “straight” again? They’re metal needles with a plastic cable.
Dear Ina,
that was a great idea, starting this new thread!
The sequel to my first story about the “peephole” wasn’t so funny for my sleazy coworker in the end. He was such a groper and practically had his nose buried in his female coworkers’ necklines. I’d just given him a talking-to about “peeking through the peephole” when he offered to let me borrow something from his porn collection. That backfired, to say the least, because the boss was standing right behind him and had heard the whole thing. From then on, my colleague could go back to spending the whole day with his porn collection, and we were left in peace.
During a school trip (7th grade), besides my homeroom teacher, my hated gym teacher—of all people—was there as a chaperone. She couldn’t stand me either. We were sitting together in a group and talking about where we bought our milk. My grandma had a farm where I used to help out a lot. Of course, that’s where we got our milk. So I said, “We get our milk straight from my grandma”… Everyone burst out laughing. The teacher, of course, hadn’t been listening and asked her colleague why everyone was laughing. He told her. Her comment: “So your grandma gives milk? How stupid is that?”
I wish the ground had opened up so I could crawl inside.
I don’t knit very often, but I have to say that I usually get along better with a knitting chart than when I have to read a written pattern. That’s usually too confusing for me.
It’s the same with crocheting.
Unfortunately, I missed this event, but it’s so much fun to read about it here. Somehow, you really get caught up in the excitement and look forward to new photos.
I hope you all continue to have lots of fun with your swap packages.
Hi Josefa,
thanks to your question, I took the time to “clean out” my watchlist today. There were quite a few patterns I’d already bought, some things aren’t as interesting anymore, but I’ve also added some new items.
I’ve really cut back on gift-giving. Now that I’ve unfortunately been forced to leave my beloved dance group, there are also a few gifts I no longer need to buy.
A few things are sitting in the box as PiAs, and I’ll probably still finish some of them for Christmas after all. That’s the plan, anyway, but with all these lovely new patterns here....
I still have a sweater with a “peekaboo cutout.” I actually like wearing it.
I had a funny experience while working at a tourist information center. Back then, I was wearing a shirt with a fairly noticeable cutout. I was on the phone, and an older gentleman was standing at the counter in front of me, smiling at me—well past that sort of thing, or so I thought. After the call, I naturally stood up and asked what I could do for him. Then he said to me, “Oh, young lady, why don’t you sit back down? Those were such lovely glimpses.”
I took that as a compliment.
Right now I’m working on a door wreath for the kitchen, I’ve started a washcloth to keep me busy while waiting at the doctor’s on Thursday, and I’ve finished a bottle bikini.
