Blazers + Oversized Blazers

Do you like blazers and oversized blazers?

Blazers are versatile and very popular garments. I’ve sewn quite a few myself, and one or two almost disappeared right after I finished them because one of my daughters liked them so much—I can rarely say, “No, it’s mine!” :-)

Oh, Inge, that checkered one is so chic! I really like the black-and-white three-piece set, too.

I used to have more blazers because I wore more skirts and dresses back then. Of course, I also had the classic black funeral outfit.
These days, there aren’t as many occasions where I could wear a blazer.
Blazers are actually timeless, popular, and easy to mix and match. Just say “Angela Merkel”...

I would have loved to have red blazers for my former dance group to go with our white blouses, red or blue scarves, and black pants. What did we get? Horrible red fleece jackets, some of them used (from the nursing service) and in men’s sizes (which don’t really fit women). That’s not exactly chic.

My “blazer days” are over. Yes, you do look dressed up in a blazer. But since I’m no longer actively working in an office, I don’t have to follow that dress code anymore. I don’t wear blazers in my personal life. I only have one black one for funerals and a light blue linen one for the summer. These days, I prefer a sporty, comfortable look.

Inge, your blazer gallery is impressive! You really can sew properly, so you can tailor the pieces to fit you perfectly. Everyone else has to go to the store and see if anything fits.

Marlies, oh dear, you all had to perform in those red fleece blazers, which were probably a bit misshapen. What a shame, what a shame. Especially with dance groups or choirs, a uniform appearance is part of the success and a joy to behold. Well—now they’re memories.

If only they had been fleece blazers, Ina. They were those simple fleece jackets with elastic at the bottom that bulge out everywhere and always remind me of bomber jackets. And then there are men’s sizes for women—nothing fits right anymore.
