My Mom and I

My mom (who had already celebrated her 80th birthday in August). This was for both of us, so to speak.

Meanwhile, my dad and my brother spent their time going for a walk and having coffee, and in the evening we all went out for Indian food together. It was delicious.

Thank you all so much for the lovely birthday wishes. I was really happy to receive them.

Today was just a coffee get-together; the little “big” celebration isn’t until Saturday with some dear friends and family, including the kids. It’s going to be lovely. I’m really looking forward to it.

On Saturday, my mom and I went to the Grand Show at the Friedrichstadtpalast in Berlin. It was our birthday present, so to speak.
It was really nice. Afterward, we went to the light show. Famous buildings were illuminated.
There were crowds and crowds of people. It was quite a sight.




It’s impossible to really capture all those impressions the way they actually were.

I’m not really the hat type, but I’d even wear this one.
What kind of material or fabric did you use? Is it some kind of fleece?

I came up with these little boots myself and crocheted a sample. I tried several times until the shape was right.

Here are the mini pumpkins

You’re quick! You’ve made some great decorations. The pumpkins look really pretty with that yarn. Why knit or crochet just socks out of it? No—they turned into pumpkins. Awesome.

I really like the little baskets, too. My favorites would be the light blue ones. They always remind me of summer, sun, and the beach. Wonderful.

My fall decorations are pretty minimal. I crocheted two little pumpkins (one with a light green stem and one with a dark green stem). I’ll give them to my mom when I go over for coffee later.

I’m still on vacation, so I can crochet and do crafts.
I still have to finish my table decorations for my 60th birthday next week. Each guest will get a handmade box with a beaded angel on it, and inside, a piece of chocolate or something similar.
I’ll upload a picture later.

Wow, that’s sensational news. It really warms the heart of a nature lover.
It’s actually still been mild and pleasant here, but every now and then it rains really hard, and now it’s supposed to get colder. Just typical dreary weather.
Until today, I could still get by with just a cardigan or blazer.

I like using these colorful plastic stitch markers (similar to safety pins). Yarn would just slip right off for me.
It actually works fine when I’m crocheting. It doesn’t bother me that much. I don’t like those little rings.

Steffi, yes, this hobby fair in Leipzig takes place every year around September/October.

Monika , what? Selling a model train set. I’d never do that to my husband—make him sell his beloved model train set. We both love our hobby too much for that, and I also enjoy watching all the things there are to discover on the layout—things that move or flash.
My crocheted figures are all mini-sized, which saves space. So everything’s okay.

Health-wise, I’m feeling a bit better already. Thanks for the get-well wishes

Monika, we really enjoyed it. I hadn’t been there in at least 10 years. But there were fewer vendors because of COVID. Still, I got everything I was looking for, and my husband found what he needed for his model railway, too.

But there were only three yarn booths there.

Ina, the colorful yarn "Mama Mia" is 100% cotton, yardage 120 m/50 g. Your pretty yarn cake might become a shawl or a narrow scarf.
With me, that happens spontaneously. Maybe a c2c blanket from the colorful yarn. No idea.
Then there’s also mosaic technique. So it won’t get boring.

Well, for me, it’s definitely way too early. By the time Advent rolls around, I won’t be in the mood for it anymore. We don’t buy gingerbread until right before Christmas, either.
Although I did buy a bag of Butterspekulatius to try. But that’s it.
The rest won’t make it onto our plates until Christmas or Advent.

Hi there, dear yarn lovers,

I had no idea where the package was right now.
The mailman just rang my doorbell, and lo and behold, the swap package is here. Hooray!

But you’ll have to be patient for a few more days. I have to head to my late shift right away, and I won’t be able to browse through it in peace until later.
This is how it arrived at my place.

I don’t own a single dirndl, even though now that I’m older I’d actually be willing to buy one—but they’re so expensive. I don’t have that many opportunities to wear one. And when it’s time for the Oktoberfest dance (with my parents), I just put on a pair of long black lederhosen, a plaid shirt, spiced up a bit with jewelry or a scarf—and I’m all set.
The older, sprightly ladies who dance there all wear dirndl dresses, and they look so great.
I’d never dare to sew one myself, like Inge does.

As a child, I used to have a dirndl dress like that. It was black with red roses on it, paired with a little white apron—I loved wearing it. I think there was also white trim along the hem of the skirt. I thought it was chic.

And I’ve changed my diet. The muesli is now to my left. :-)))

Marita, that was really quick. You picked out some great types of yarn and colors. The pink-purple-white yarn would have been my favorite too, along with that colorful skein there.

Steffi, those gears look really interesting. How big are the smallest ones? You could make some fun earrings out of them. The big ones (with the three bars inside) look like steering wheels. Some of the small gears could be used as little belt buckles.

Petra, what’s that great pattern on your washcloth? It looks really pretty.

Wow, Ina, that blanket looks interesting. I could tell right away that it’s knitted.
How do you create that pattern (those thick edge lines)—or what should I call them?
I have a bit of a hard time with knitting. But I like it. I can’t figure out how to use double-pointed needles at all.

Well, I hope you manage to deal with this “hoarding” situation. It’s often emotional too, because you get a little glimpse into how that person lived.

Well, I like to go for a stroll at the Christmas market every now and then—as long as it’s not absolutely packed, of course.
It’s just a small one here anyway, so there are more food stalls than Christmas decorations, plus a carousel for the kids and a small artificial ice rink for skating.
The highlight is always a mug of mulled wine and a mushroom dish, or those waffles with powdered sugar. That’s all I need.
