Weekend Plans // Happy Weekend

I’m loving the 18 degrees we’re having. Perfect weather for snuggling and knitting! It’s fun to knit with merino wool again.

Nature desperately needs the rain—I can practically feel it breathing a sigh of relief. Even if I end up harvesting wet raspberries again today. They’ll still taste good, though.

And the plums still need to be made into cake… phew. Somehow, it never ends. ;-)

I wish everyone here a cozy and lovely woolly weekend!

Warm regards, Monika

Weekend Projects: Fun on Your Days Off

A cute little raglan sweater for bears and dolls—you can easily finish knitting it over the weekend. With the pattern, it’s very easy, even if you’re a beginner with a little knitting experience.

The sweater was originally designed for Teddy Fynn, whom it fits perfectly (size 25–30 cm).

Best to start right away, because teddies and dolls are starting to get cold now too.

Weekend Projects: Fun on Your Days Off

A very pretty and extremely useful weekend project is this ladybug potholder. Its bright colors make it the highlight of your kitchen.

Best of all: You can easily crochet it yourself, even as a beginner. Basic crochet skills are required.

It’s best to start right away and crochet several ladybugs, because they make a brilliant gift for many occasions.

Josefa, I’m doing fine timewise until Monday. I could even manage it by tomorrow—I just need to post a photo of the finished UFO—and of the unfinished ones.

The Girls’ Thread in August: Pink, Rose, Red, Purple, Crimson, Lilac.

Your baby girl is sure to look adorable in this pretty baby set. It consists of a knitted little dress with a lace pattern, a matching headband, and crocheted little shoes.

I recommend it for skilled and experienced knitters. However, it is explained so well in the pattern that even as an advanced(!) beginner, you can take on this little challenge.

The little dress fits from 3 months and can be knitted in any desired length, so it will still fit at 1 to 1.5 years old.

The Girls’ Thread in August: Pink, Rose, Red, Purple, Crimson, Lilac.

This cute baby set—consisting of a jacket with a hat and matching harem pants—is knitted in a pretty pattern using sock yarn. It’s comfortable all around, warm, and cozy. Baby will feel safe and snug in it.

What makes it special: it grows with your baby from 3 to at least 12 months.

For beginners with a little experience, it should be easy to make with the pattern.

The Girls’ Thread in August: Pink, Rose, Red, Purple, Crimson, Lilac.

This pinafore dress for toddlers is something special, because it grows with them for several years. During that time, it gradually transforms, so their favorite piece can be worn for a long time. Much to the delight of knitting grandmas and moms.

The pattern explains all the steps, so even advanced beginners can manage it.

Busy Tuesday: What are the little helpers working on?

Tuesday was fruit-processing day, and yesterday too. Phew… I can’t stand the sight of plums anymore!

In between, I actually kept knitting on a new hat and a headband. After all, winter is coming soon. ;-)

And today I’m baking plum cake and… continuing to knit. Plus, there are lots of other things waiting to be done, including bookkeeping (frown…).

Happy with August?

August was great for me, too, despite the heat. I’m working on new ideas and have even almost finished a winter project—a new hat design is (almost) ready. :-)

I also finally finished a UFO bag that I can give to my granddaughter in September.

Our garden gives us almost a pound of raspberries every day, and this year, honeydew melons are even growing all on their own in the raised compost bed. Well, if that isn’t a reason to be happy!

Now I’m looking forward to September and some moderate temperatures. Then it’s off on the road again in the RV.

I just need to take a photo, then I’ll show you the just-landed UFO — the kindergarten bag.

I’ll take the baby sweater and the matching hat with me into September as UFOs. I’ll still need a while for those. And the new hat I started over a week ago isn’t finished yet either (but almost). There’s also a headband on the needles that will also go into September as a UFO.

So I’ll be bringing 4 UFOs in for landing in September.

Photos of the pieces I’ve started will follow.

Raglan: Learning, Info, and Tips

For those who find it easier to double the stitches:
Insert the needle in the front first—then in the back.

Raglan: Learning, Info, and Tips

I usually work two knit stitches into one stitch. That way, there are no holes.
First insert the needle from the back, then from the front—and only then remove the stitch from the left needle.
This works without leaving holes.

Personally, I generally prefer raglan worked from the bottom up.
It’s easier (for me) to calculate, and it looks nicer because I can then make increases on both the right and left sides.

Of course, it’s a matter of personal taste.

Raglan: Learning, Info, and Tips

Thanks for getting this started, CreatOwl.

The increase points are at the 4 markers. Since I prefer knitting, I’ll explain it that way:

I always knit the stitches before and after the marker on the right side. The increases are then always made before and after those stitches. There are several ways to do this.

For example, you can make an increase from the strand between the stitches or double the stitch (knit it twice). There are good videos online showing how to do this.

I always make the increases every other row.

How’s it going? Are you feeling good? Weather Update / Weekly Plans / Lunch

Ah, now that the temperatures are getting milder again, I’ve already got my first projects with merino wool on my needles. :-)

A hat for my granddaughter and a headband for me. It feels really good, and it’s coming along nicely.

Starting Thursday, we’ll keep an eye on the weather, and then we’ll be hitting the road again for two days in the RV. This time, we’re heading to Lake Chiemsee. I’ll also be visiting Waltraud at her Wollkörberl. (Good thing I’m not on a diet right now.)

I had to order some yarn yesterday because I was missing one skein for the hat. Oh well, I went ahead and ordered the yarn I need for my husband’s vest while I was at it.

What are your plans for the weekend?

Petra, your cuddly Junior is really cute and looks like he’s always up for an adventure. Well, the name Junior still fits. Will he be renamed Senior later on? ;-)

For me, using up fruit is on the agenda almost every day right now. We get so much as gifts, and we harvest 1 pound of raspberries ourselves every day. It’s just fantastic.

Does anyone have a tip on how to use pears? I’ve never made pear sauce before and don’t know if it’s possible.

Yesterday, for the first time in a long while, I had merino wool on my needles again. It feels so nice. Now the new hat for my granddaughter is taking shape... so exciting. A new creation—it's still in the testing phase. But I can already tell it’s going to be great.

Today is all about tidying up. I finally need to sort through the yarn chaos in the living room so I can get a clear overview again. I’m glad I don’t have any cats. I couldn’t leave everything lying around like this.

Wishing you all a creative Sunday!

Love,
Monika

Marion, you’ve got some yarn there that goes a long way.
Maybe—combined with other colors—you could whip up some dishcloths or even a blanket?

Sandra, that blanket looks great. You’ll manage to sew it together—you’ll see.

Oh Marion, just be happy about it instead. Maybe the color would also look great combined with another one. Apparently, you must have liked the color at some point. ;-)

I could definitely imagine it combined with a lighter blue (striped?).

How about a cushion cover?

Who has (the most) leftover yarn? Please include a photo.

OMG, Marion! That’s amazing—look at all the leftover yarn you have!
I only have enough to fit in a small basket now—at least the small leftover bits.
I also have some leftover thicker yarn, but I’m saving that for possible mending or for adding to knitting projects, so they’re not really leftovers.

Mel, you can make so much with sock yarn—for example, sweaters, jackets, vests, scarves, and much more. I really enjoy working with it. For example, I knitted the baby romper and my poncho cape entirely from sock yarn. I’m going to knit my granddaughter a pair of leggings from sock yarn for winter.

Have a wonderful day, everyone, and a great knitting/crocheting weekend! The temperatures have finally gone down!

Best regards from Monika

Wow, that’s a really cute little gathering of hedgehogs here. They look so adorable, Mel—you could just fall in love with them.

Yeah, my UFOs would be piling up too if it weren’t for this thread. This makes it really fun and motivates me to keep going.

My preschool bag is also nearing completion. Today I sewed on the buttons, and it’s basically done. I even wrote the crochet pattern at the same time. Now I just need to take some good photos so I can show it to you all.

Let’s see if I can manage to embroider the name on it next week. I’m planning to do that, too.

I’ll probably carry the baby sweater over into September as a UFO. It’s not exactly urgent. The matching hat is still on the needles, too. As you can see, I’m working on multiple projects at once again.

Best regards
Monika
