The weather is lousy… and I’m actually kind of glad about it—I can stay inside without feeling guilty.
Although… Tonight I’d like to do some more weeding, since the weeds are still running wild… So I’ll be heading outside after all.
But after that, for real: I’m heading into my warm little place and just staying in there.
It’s finally raining properly… So the weather would actually be ideal for needlework, but given the apple trees heavy with fruit, I have to get the fruit cellar ready first—which means clearing out and cleaning the racks. Also, in a fit of tidying-up frenzy this morning, I started trying to bring some order to the chaos of my club documents—before I knew it, it was noon and the piles of unsorted papers were still there! And I’d really love to knit!
It’s cloudy today with a high of just 20 degrees. I hope the clouds don’t bring rain—I cleaned all the windows and doors this morning! I’m freezing and wondering what I’ll do when winter comes... so I’m going to keep knitting on my blanket, and when it gets really cold, I’ll snuggle up in it...
I’m loving the 18 degrees we’re having. Perfect weather for snuggling and knitting! It’s fun to knit with merino wool again.
Nature desperately needs the rain—I can practically feel it breathing a sigh of relief. Even if I end up harvesting wet raspberries again today. They’ll still taste good, though.
And the plums still need to be made into cake… phew. Somehow, it never ends. ;-)
I wish everyone here a cozy and lovely woolly weekend!
I just got back from performing with the dance group at our fellow dancer’s diamond wedding anniversary. We were the surprise act and got lots of applause. Afterward, we went for coffee and cake (my beloved mocha cake…grin).
Now I’m completely satisfied and can get back to my crocheting.
I might head to the last baking festival of the year tomorrow. They’ll have “Hohn ut de Tünn smieten,” a super-delicious butter cake, homemade bread, a few vendor booths, and music provided by the music and spinning wheel group.
Now I’ll see if I can round up my PiAs and do a photo shoot.
Have a wonderful rest of the weekend, everyone.
Best wishes, Marlies
I just tried out a new recipe. I baked some bread for Anton using emmer flour. It’s an ancient grain and is rich in calcium, magnesium, etc. It was a bit of a hassle—grated apple, pureed raisins, and so on. I hope he likes it. We’re about to head to the “Romantic Nights” event at Hagenbeck Zoo. It’s open later today, and there’s some live music and such. It’ll probably be pretty nice.
After that, I’m going to the Schützenfest with a friend. There’s a Schlager party there today.
Tomorrow at noon, I want to go back to the Schützenfest. There’s a concert featuring several marching bands, and Anton likes marching bands. :-) The things we do for our child.
Sandra, I’m really interested in your bread. I bake our bread with emmer flour, too. Your recipe sounds absolutely great. Could you post it here sometime?
You’re really coming up with some great ideas for Anton… things that you enjoy and that are good for you at the same time. ;-) Way to go!
Monika, I baked with emmer flour for the first time. I didn't know it before. Anton thinks it's tasty (thankfully)
Here is the recipe:
500 g whole-grain spelt flour
250 g emmer flour
1 tsp salt
1 tsp bread spice (e.g., coriander, anise, fennel, caraway)
50 g raisins
1 apple
1 packet dry yeast
1 packet sourdough starter (dry, 30 g)
20 g chia seeds
20 g flaxseed
Mix the flour with the salt and bread spice
Soak the raisins in 100 ml hot water for 5 minutes, then puree them
Grate the apple
Knead all the ingredients and 500 ml water with the dough hooks of a hand mixer into a smooth dough.
Let rise in a warm place for 1 hour
Put the dough into a loaf pan and place it in the cold oven. Heat the oven to 180 degrees and bake the bread for 50 min.
Well, I hope I haven't forgotten anything.
In a moment we're off to the marching band concert :-)
The Schlager party yesterday was great.
Yes, it was/is a great weekend. I’m home now. Anton is sleeping, my husband is watching Formula 1, and I’m crocheting. It doesn’t get any better than this :-)))
