Tips for Staying Cool in the Summer Heat + Your Favorite Ice Cream

With the current temperatures, tips on how to stay cool are a great idea. Do you have any tips you’d like to share? And I’d love to know which ice cream you like best. 

Taking a lukewarm shower—not a cold one—is more effective. And when it gets really bad, you can also put ice packs in your bed, around calf height—that helps a lot, too.

For me, chocolate ice cream is number one!

We go for a swim in the morning—it does us good and refreshes us. Lots of fruit and light meals. During the day, I hop under the outdoor shower every now and then. 

My favorite ice cream right now is vanilla ice cream with mango purée and chocolate sprinkles on top. 

I also own an ice cream maker—my husband gave it to me for my birthday the year before last. I don’t really have a single favorite ice cream flavor, though. But what I love most is my homemade ice cream, such as banana, strawberry, or apricot, or sometimes a mixed ice cream that can include up to four different kinds of fruit. The fruits have to go well together, though. 

Today we’re having banana ice cream—with this heat, the bananas were turning brown so quickly that I froze them in chunks and blended them in the food processor until creamy.

My favorite is good vanilla ice cream; in Italy, we discovered the tradition of pouring an espresso over a scoop of vanilla ice cream. That’s our summer hit this year.

Vanilla or nut ice cream is delicious, whether it’s peanut or walnut. Right now we have lots of different kinds of mini ice cream pops in the freezer—some with a chocolate coating, some without, some with nuts in the chocolate coating, and some with white chocolate, as well as ones with fruit on the outside (mixed fruit in red and mango in yellow)—and they’re all vanilla on the inside. Those are delicious, too. Unfortunately, I don’t have room for an ice cream maker, and the small ones where you have to pre-freeze the container aren’t an option for me because, sadly, there’s absolutely no room in the freezer either. Plus, there’s still vanilla ice cream (2.5 kg) in the freezer—delicious. 😉😇
