Hello everyone,

summer 2026 is finally here! 🍦☀️ To really kick off the warm season, this month we’re combining three wonderful summer trends: airy lace patterns, casual outdoor boho style, and maritime flair! Show us your most beautiful projects that capture exactly this summer mood – whether they’re freshly finished or your trusty companions from past years.

✂️ How to take part:
Simply post a reply in this thread with the following info:

  • Motif / title: [e.g. “My Airy Beach Top” or “Kalle the Octopus”]
  • Technique: [Knitting / Crochet / Sewing / Embroidery / Mix]
  • Brief info: [Yarn, fabric, cut, pattern – whatever you’d like to share]
  • Short story (2–4 sentences): [What summer occasion is it for? What makes it special? Is there a story behind it?]
  • Photos: [At least 1 photo 📸]

📋 The rules:

  • All handcraft techniques are welcome (knitting, crochet, sewing, embroidery…)
  • It has to fit the summer theme (Airy, Boho/Garden, Maritime) – everything counts, from clothing and decor to amigurumi!
  • Already finished AND new projects are allowed
  • Original designs AND projects made from a pattern count
  • Please like the posts you enjoy the most
  • Prize: €100 Crazypatterns store credit 🎉
  • Duration: until June 21, 2026
  • Feel free to share the event on your social media channels!

💡 Need inspiration? Here are a few ideas:

  • Airy & Light: summer tops with lace patterns, beach dresses, mesh shoppers, or delicate throw-on cardigans for mild evenings
  • Boho & Garden Party: colorful bunting, summery table runners, crocheted bandanas, or little festival bags
  • Maritime Flair: striped summer slipovers and shirts, maritime decorative pendants
  • From the Sea: amigurumi turtles, cute whales, octopuses, or starfish 🐙

📸 Photo tip for a wow effect:
Show your summer creations in action! Whether the top is being worn while eating ice cream, the bunting is fluttering on a sunny balcony, or the amigurumi is sitting in real sand – your handmade projects simply look best outdoors in natural light. 🥰

🥇🥈🥉 The winners will be chosen as usual:

  • Community Choice: 3 × €20 = €60 (The 3 posts with the most likes win)
  • Jury Picks: 2 × €10 = €20 (Jury = Operator and Moderator)
  • Random Selection: 2 × €10 = €20 (2 participating posts will be chosen at random)

We can’t wait to see what you have on your needles and sewing machines, and how you’re celebrating summer through handcrafts. Show us your sunniest ideas! 🏖️

Don’t forget to like your favorites and share the event with your craft-loving friends!

Have fun and good luck!
Your Crazypatterns Team 🎀

  • Motif / Title: Coast Path Tee
  • Technique: Knitting
  • Quick Facts: Summer yarn: Tynn Line (cotton-linen-viscose) by Sandnes, worked double-stranded with 4mm needles
  • Short story (2–4 sentences): The name alone evokes summer and vacation... the Coast Path Tee is the first original pattern created by a beloved YouTuber (KnittingMary)—she got the idea while on vacation along the “Coast Path,” gazing out at the sea. The irregular white stripes are meant to mimic the white caps of the waves. You create them by holding 1 strand of white and 1 strand of blue together; the rest is knitted with 2 strands of blue, and the i-cord edge with 2 strands of white.

It was a lot of fun and went really quickly (my third striped shirt 😅—I love it!), perfect for throwing on during balmy summer evenings or whatever; now that it’s just under 20 degrees, I even wear it during the day (I’m wearing it right now because it’s really become one of my favorites!).

  • Motif / Title: Palme Tee
  • Technique: Knitting
  • Quick Facts: Drops Belle yarn (cotton-linen-viscose) in Cherry, knitted with 4 mm needles
  • Short story (2–4 sentences): My first lace/openwork project, the Palme Tee by Lene Holme Sansoe. I’m sooo excited to see how it looks when it’s finished and whether it fits well—I’ve never knitted a circular-yoke shirt before (since I’ve spent the last zillion years knitting nothing but socks 😆)...it’s a ton of fun, and I’m already so excited about this shirt that I’m knitting on it every spare minute I have!
  • Keep your fingers crossed that it’ll be finished soon 🍀

  • Motif / Title: A Sea Pig with a Twist
  • Technique: Crochet
  • Quick Facts: My own design, crocheted with cotton yarn; the pattern will be available soon
  • Short story (2–4 sentences): My kids constantly inspire me with funny ideas; I can barely keep up with bringing them all to life. The guinea pig—or rather, the mermaid sow—was a labor of love. My oldest loves pigs, and my youngest loves fairy tales.

Motif: Flower garlands for indoors and outdoors

Technique: Crochet

Quick info: My idea using leftover yarn, shown here as a window hanging

I’ve simply accumulated too much leftover yarn, and I think this decoration enhances the “view” through the window

Motif / Title
Octopus PaulTechnique
Crochet Brief info
Without a pattern

Short story
May I introduce him? Paul was my very first XXL amigurumi and has an impressive wingspan of over one meter! Since I just couldn’t find a pattern that I really liked, I crocheted him completely without a plan, freehand, using acrylic yarn. He may not be perfect, but I’m super proud of him and love him exactly the way he is.🥰❤️

Quick info: The basic shape is based on Mtinitoon’s soccer gnomes; the pattern is wonderfully adaptable.

Motif / Title: Shawls for cool summer evenings
Technique: Knitting
Quick Facts:  They keep you warm thanks to the merino wool, yet you still don’t overheat. The airy lace stitches offer subtle glimpses of bare skin. Perfect for cool summer evenings
Short story: This lace shawl, which consists of just two pattern rows that alternate continuously, was created to complement a solid-colored long summer dress. It needed an eye-catching accent and something warm for the evening. I thought a jacket was old-fashioned, so I made the shawl from my own pattern

Technique: Crochet

Info: It consists of two parts connected with hand-crocheted buttons. There’s a pillow inside. I crocheted it following my own pattern .

Technique: Crocheted from yarn scraps

Info: I crocheted all the doll clothes using my pattern (6 pieces are part of the set).

Quick facts:
light blue and white mottled cotton—my own design
Short story:
I wanted something so I could wear my spaghetti-strap dresses to work in the summer to cover my shoulders. It was the first time I’d ever knitted a lace pattern. Of course, I carefully knitted the holes closed again in the second row of the lace pattern 😅

  • Motif / Title: Bohomania... is that even a word? My current pride and joy—I almost broke my fingers at the beginning until I got the hang of the crab stitch technique...
  • Technique: Crochet
  • Quick Facts: Cotton yarn, following a pattern by Petra Perle
  • Short story (2–4 sentences): We’ve been living on a construction site for a while now—we’re remodeling. It can be pretty exhausting. And this wall hanging is going on a door that isn’t there yet. But—since the hanging is already done, it surely won’t be long now… that’s comforting. And until its spot is ready, it brightens up the garden and, when it rains, the window. :-)

  • Motif / Title: Glass cover “SUMMER HAT”
  • Technique: Crochet
  • Quick Facts: Suitable for cotton yarn and a 2.5 mm crochet hook. This is a great way to use up leftover yarn.
  • Short story: Over the past few years, we’ve repeatedly had two wasp nests in the legs of our garden table (hollow rattan). They were always field wasps with those long, dangling legs. They’re completely harmless and don’t do anything. We’ve gotten used to each other. They fly around and look about, and we leave them alone. Still, of course, you don’t want them to end up in your drinking glass. So we needed some stylish glass covers. 😊🐝The pattern has just been added to my shop. 😉

    Best regards, Michaela

Motif / Title: Turn 1 into 2 – my colorful granny square reversible bagTechnique: CrochetBrief info:The Granny Boho bag consists of four large granny squares and can be carried with either side facing out. It was crocheted using cotton yarn in cheerful summer colors. Thanks to the special construction, one model offers two different looks. I made it following my own pattern.Short story:
I loved the idea behind this bag right from the start: one bag becomes two. Depending on my mood, outfit, or the season, I can simply reverse it and show a different side each time. The colorful granny squares in boho style remind me of summer, sunshine, and carefree days by the sea. That’s why I especially love taking this bag with me on outings, market visits, and little summer adventures.

Motif / Title: Turn 1 into 2 – my colorful granny square reversible bag

Technique: Crochet

Quick Facts: This granny boho bag consists of four large granny squares and can be carried either way. It was crocheted using cotton yarn in cheerful summer colors. Thanks to its special construction, this single design creates two different looks. I made it following my own pattern.

Short story:

  • Motif / Title: Beach Tunic and Boho Bag Mareia
  • Technique: Mareia is crocheted
  • Quick Facts: 8/4 cotton, white, turquoise, and light gray with a waist drawstring
  • Short story (2–4 sentences): I crocheted the Mareia tunic and the matching boho bag for our September vacation on the island of Elba. Every morning I take a walk on the beach and buy bread and rolls, so I crocheted this tunic, the matching bag for the rolls, and a small towel. If the weather’s nice, I’ll take a quick dip in the water and throw the tunic on after drying off. A beautiful piece like this, crocheted by hand, really builds up the anticipation for this vacation.

Motif / Title: My New Favorite Summer Shirt
Technique: Crochet
Quick Facts: The basic pattern is from the magazine *Wooly Hugs Maschenwelt* 04/2022, but I modified the bottom section of the shirt and the stitch count. The yarn is Wooly Hugs Sky.
Short story (2–4 sentences): I found the magazine at a flea market last year and have finally gotten around to making one of the designs from it. I was fascinated by the construction—instead of working from top to bottom or vice versa, as is usually the case, you start with two skeins of gradient yarn, one on the outside and one on the inside, and work the shirt from the center outward.
Photos: In the photo, I’ve only blurred my face. This is the first time I’ve posted anything here ☺️

Motif / Title: Decorative lamp, lighthouse
Technique: Crafting
Quick info: Cardstock and tracing paper, made using my own templates.
Short story: I designed this lighthouse as part of one of our challenges on CP. Since I grew up far away from any bodies of water, the nautical theme was rather foreign to me. But working on this lighthouse was so much fun that I ended up using the motif in two other projects as well.

Boho lanterns.
These beautiful crocheted vintage jars sit on my patio in the summer.
Since I love macramé lanterns so much and they fit my style, but I didn’t know how to do macramé, I experimented with crochet to achieve this look.

Bikinis for 60 cm BJDs

They’re crocheted from fine cotton yarn; I came up with the pattern and design myself. I wanted the pieces to look realistic.

I love knitting and crocheting for this doll. Even with the finest yarn, you can quickly achieve a beautiful result.

Motif / Title: Summer Bag for Kids

Technique: Sewing

Quick Facts: I fell in love with the fabric right away and sewed a summer bag for my granddaughter. Just looking at the bag puts you in a good mood—but my granddaughter doesn’t just look at it; she also uses it when she goes to the ice cream shop with her mom. Inside the bag are her treasures, like little dolls to play with, hair clips, or a picture book.

Short Story (2–4 sentences): My granddaughter loves bags. Last summer, I sewed this bag for her. There’s so much to discover just on the fabric itself that she never gets bored. It’s a real summer bag for kids—just the right size and with great structure. Feel free to make your own—you can find the free sewing instructions on my blog.

Motif: My octopus “Jaques”

Technique: crocheted

Info: Cotton yarn in nautical colors—of course, it has to match the theme

Short story: I saw the octopus in a crochet magazine and fell head over heels in love with it right away! I ordered the magazine immediately and was overjoyed when it arrived. I glanced at the pattern and thought, “Oh dear, this is going to be a real challenge,” but I took it on and worked my way through it row by row. As I went along, it got easier and easier. The six arms really tested my patience, but I stuck with it. And the result is amazing🥰 My friend fell in love with Jaques right away, too. So I crocheted her a slightly smaller octopus and surprised her with it. The surprise was a total success—she was absolutely thrilled. She named it “Lucill,” and it’s her pride and joy, which made me very happy💕 And I crocheted a mini octopus for my boyfriend, too, which he was super excited about. The two of them are now sitting in our bathroom as great decorations.

Motif: A little water / Lots of water

Technique: crochet, knitting

Quick info: Leftover yarn, assorted cotton yarn, freestyle based on various basic patterns

Short story: Hi everyone, I’m Bettina. I’ve only just really noticed the forum and thought I’d give showing something a try too. The little cactus extravaganza was a window decoration in our flower shop, south-facing, for the summer season. It was crazy—people loved it. The jellyfish were supposed to become an underwater window display with other creatures the following year. Unfortunately, that never happened. But the idea is still in my head.

Happy sweating!

Hi, I used a small ball of modeling clay (you can find it very cheaply, e.g., at Action), then a thin layer of Styrofoam (from packaging), and finally a terry cloth washcloth (for the potting soil).

Best wishes and have a wonderful weekend ☀️ 🌡️ 🫠
