How old would you have to get to use up all your yarn/fabric stash?

Dear community,

Let’s assume you stopped buying yarn and fabric. How long would your stash last, or how old would you have to get before it’s all gone?

Mod tip: You can find beautiful patterns for using up your stash here.

Wow, if nothing new were added, I wouldn’t have much time left—maybe two years at most—because I don’t actually have that much in stock. That’s why I’m already looking forward to the Advent calendar again, so the supply never runs out.

If I wanted to make everything I’d ever planned to make and had all the materials on hand, I’d have to live to be 679 years old—because I never actually run out of materials. If I didn’t have any new fabrics lying around, I’d just help myself to my closet and only leave hanging the bare essentials that I could actually wear ;-) :-)))

As far as wool goes, I could definitely make it last about 2–3 years. With fabrics, it’s a different story—they could last me about 4 more years

Love, Inge

I can only guess.

During the first year of the pandemic, I knitted and crocheted over 9 kg.

Over two years, I used up over 6 kg.

In the last three years, I haven’t managed to use up even one kg.

Take away my garden and my books, and I might still have two years’ worth of supplies in the house.

As for fabric, I’d do what Inge does. You can sew wonderful things from old clothes, table linens, and bedding.

Unfortunately, I can’t upload any pictures right now—are you having trouble with that too?

I’m eagerly awaiting the day I can retire (in 6.5 years) and work through my stash of yarn and fabric. Then I’ll have plenty to keep me busy for another 5–6 years. But that will only work if I don’t buy any more yarn. I inherited the fabric from my mother—she was a seamstress.

Good morning,

I, too, am eagerly awaiting retirement (in 2032). I think my yarn stash will last until my 120th birthday—but only if I don’t buy any more. I’ve planned well. I’ll even weather crises like striking sheep, closed yarn shops, and no more online retailers just fine.

Best regards, Anette
