Now there’s also a Door Guard Bear. It clearly shows whether the way is clear or not. Very useful for all family members. And the little bear spreads good cheer everywhere.

With the crochet pattern, even beginners with basic skills can easily recreate the bear. Everything is explained step by step with photos.

Since it uses very little yarn, it’s also a great way to use up leftover yarn.

Baskets (exclusive recommendations)

A very special kind of basket is this little gnome house. It’s quick and easy to crochet with the pattern if you have basic crochet skills.

It’s great for storing yarn. The door is open at the top, so you can hide all kinds of little things there, such as needles or buttons.

For children, the house is a wonderful toy—together with the gnomes, which are also available in my shop. And at breakfast, everyone in the family will be in a good mood when the rolls are hidden in this gnome house.

You can also leave off the face if you like. Even as a house without decoration, it looks very decorative. And without the roof, it is simply a decorative basket.

Here’s the crochet pattern for the gnome house.

This baby pinafore dress made of cotton can be worn in any season. It has a few special features:

The pinafore dress grows with your child for about 1 year, possibly even longer - from about 6 to 18 months. It gradually transforms in a very simple way into a little pinafore skirt. The raised straps in the back area ensure a good fit in every size.

Additional advantages:
  • There are no seams! The dress is knitted from the bottom up in one piece.
  • It is also very easy for beginners to make. However, basic knowledge should be present.

Triangular Shawl

How about a combination of a triangular shawl and a poncho? It’s a real eye-catcher on cool summer evenings or for festive occasions!

In the 18-page knitting pattern with lots of photos plus 2 additional pages with detailed pattern charts, the entire shawl is explained clearly step by step. However, you should have basic knitting knowledge and a little practice. I would describe the difficulty level as intermediate.

The following basic knitting and crochet skills are required:
  • knitting knit and purl stitches
  • knitting yarn overs
  • right-leaning and left-leaning decreases (also briefly explained here)
  • two-row seed stitch
  • knitting from a pattern chart
  • crocheting chain stitches and single crochet
  • It would be helpful if you know how to pick up stitches to the right (there are notes on this in the pattern)
Materials:
  • 300 g cotton in white (here: yardage
  • 170 m/50 g)
  • 50–100 g cotton in pink
  • One 80 cm circular knitting needle, size 3.5
  • One crochet hook, size 3.5
  • One yarn needle for weaving in ends
  • A few stitch markers

What are your best crafting moments?

Wow, that’s really touching, what you’ve experienced. I’m so happy for you!

I only started crafting again last winter after many years away from it. My favorite moments since then are always when my son (41) remembers the Norwegian sweaters he loved so much as a child and that I knitted for him. And he’s happy every time I knit for his daughter now. Yes, and the very best moment is when she puts the things on. That’s the absolute highlight for me.

I’ll get to experience that moment this weekend at our 25th wedding anniversary. :-)

Best regards - Monika

How are things going with you all?

I’m sending you get-well wishes too, Schnuckelina! Give your body a break and enjoy it.

This is funny—I had no idea that yarn projects could be UFOs. How cool!

I just stopped by here now, after the weekend. ;-)
I’m also slowly getting started with ideas and projects for the fall and Christmas season. I’ve still got a few UFOs lying around that I just don’t feel like working on right now. The yarn is just too warm and too thick.

So I’ve started crocheting something new again. If it turns out the way I imagine it, it’ll be totally cute. In any case, it’s going to have a face… and I’m already curious to see how I’ll pull that off.

As I mentioned last week, I ordered some yarn. I really only needed one color, but… well. I guess I ended up needing several after all. And some of it is actually already on the hook.

Since we’re celebrating a silver wedding anniversary this weekend and I can finally give my granddaughter the two strappy dresses, I won’t be able to work on my UFOs and PIAs for now. That just makes me look forward to next week even more.

Have fun with your PIAs, UFOs, and SABLE (yes, that could be me, too)!

And how can you recognize the partners of yarn addicts?

That’s great, Caro! It’s pretty much the same for us too. :-)

New exclusive patterns (for exclusive authors only)

This lightweight cotton baby pinafore dress is ideal for all seasons. It can be worn without a shirt underneath or with a blouse or camisole underneath. In winter, it looks great with a sweater underneath.

What makes it special: It grows with your baby for at least 1 year—from 6 to at least 18 months.

This little pinafore dress is very easy and quick to knit, making it suitable even for beginners with basic skills. It’s knitted from the bottom up without any seams. The knitting pattern is 11 pages long and includes many photos.

You’ll need the following materials:
  • Size 3 circular knitting needle, 60 cm long
  • 100 g of cotton yarn (150 m/50 g) in the main color
  • 50 g or leftover yarn for the stripes
  • 13 heart-shaped buttons, 1 cm in diameter
  • 1 yarn needle for weaving in ends
  • A few stitch markers

How are the designs created?

Thanks, Birgit! That’s an interesting post.

I wish everyone here happy sweaty knitting and crocheting. ;-)

Door wreath / Door decorations / Doorstops

One very special door decoration is the guardian owl “Ruhu.” Not only does she look funny and spread good cheer, but she also clearly indicates whether the way is clear.

Ruhu is a particularly nice bodyguard—she’s sure to be loved by the whole family, and everyone will want their own owl on the door. That’s certainly how it is in our house.

This is a great way to use up leftover red and green yarn, and it’s very quick and easy to crochet. The 16-page pattern, with step-by-step instructions and plenty of photos, is therefore suitable even for beginners with basic skills.

Question of the Week: What have you been crafting today? (no advertising)

You busy bees here,

I'm still knitting the first shoulder shawl of my life. It's a real labor of love, but it already looks really good.

I'm currently designing another crochet project; it has something remotely to do with a bag, a special one ... I'll tell you more when it's finished.

And then I'm crocheting another door guardian right now. This time it won't be an owl ... I'm not quite sure yet what it will turn into, and I'm letting myself be surprised.

For labor-intensive tasks, it's definitely great to have some smaller projects going as well. ;-)

Have a lovely knitting-and-crochet evening, everyone, and let your needles sing ... grin. I will too.

Best wishes
Monika

Help! What does “3 stitches = 1 double crochet” mean?

Dear friends,
I’m always so impressed by the amazing help I get here from the authors.
That’s another reason why I love being here at CP.

I’d like to take this opportunity to briefly mention that it’s only here at CP that I’ve found what I couldn’t find in all the free patterns on other sites.

I think the reason is that the wonderful patterns here are written by individuals who’ve developed them themselves and even documented them with photos. From a customer’s perspective, that’s really worth paying for.

And then, after a while, I had the idea to become an author here myself—which I really enjoy. I never would have thought before that I’d ever do something like this. It’s so much fun!

Just wanted to mention that… because it seemed fitting here.

Thank you all for being here—including the mods, of course! :-)

Best regards from Monika

These two airy, lightweight shirts made from light cotton are very loose and stretchy thanks to their pattern arrangement. They are perfect for warm days in spring and summer—either worn on their own or with a shirt underneath.

The advantage: Both pieces are easy for beginners to make. Each pattern includes a detailed step-by-step description with lots of photos.
