Dear users, dear authors,
The trend toward patchwork knitting started in the English-speaking world, and now it’s here too?

Yes, anyone who regularly follows our crafting group will have noticed that a real “Karl fever” has broken out: All sorts of different tops using the patchwork technique have been created.
If you’re interested, feel free to take a look:https://www.crazypatterns.net/de/forum/topic/180948/maerz-projekte-2023-teil-2
It’s so easy, yet it always stays exciting.
I also tried my hand at designing wrist warmers using the patchwork technique, and Monika (mowi 19) designed a skirt and a doll’s dress to go with it.
So we’ve caught the bug, and there’s definitely more to come.

I can’t say whether patchwork knitting is a trend. For me, it’s a virus, an addiction I fell prey to in the last millennium when I stumbled upon a book by Horst Schulz by chance 😅
Back then, I knitted a little baby cardigan using the patchwork technique. That baby is now 31 years old, and I’m still passionately knitting patchwork.
Oh, and for the past six months or so, I’ve also been writing patterns for the things I patch together. So if you have any questions, fire them off—I think I know my way around this 😁
By the way, I also work full-time, so it might take me a little longer to reply sometimes 😅, but I’ll check in here regularly.
Have fun patchwork knitting! 🤗

I have a book on this patchwork knitting, BUT it might as well be written backwards in Swahili—I really don’t get it. I’ve tried it before, too, but it’ll never be my thing.

Best, Inge

I think patchwork knitting is really cool in itself, but I’m put off by the small needle size required for the Karl patterns. I once started a jacket using sock yarn and gave up after a year—I knit too slowly for that, and by then the jacket wouldn’t have fit me anyway. But patchwork doesn’t look as nice with thicker yarn…

I love knitted patchwork blankets. Usually with size 4 needles and DK-weight yarn. Right now I’m working on one in the Karl style; when it’s finished, I’ll show it to you.
Best regards from Anja

This blanket is absolutely amazing!

I’ll admit it—I’m totally hooked on patchwork knitting. It’s so much fun because it’s exciting and leaves so much room for your own creativity. I’ve knitted three Karls so far, and yes—I’ve even designed a little skirt for the dolls and my granddaughter. Once you get the hang of the technique, it’s actually very easy.

Now I’m actually thinking about starting another Karl on a long car ride soon. This time, I’ll knit it with sock yarn and long sleeves, for the cooler season. It’s great to work on while doing other things, and the amount of yarn to bring along is manageable.

@ Inge, if I can help you get started with patchwork knitting in any way, just let me know. I’m happy to pass on the bug 😊

@ Anja, your blanket is wonderful, and I’m already excited to see the Karl blanket 😃

@Monika, I warned you: once you’ve started, you won’t stop 😅

@ Ruth, I saw your wrist warmers. They turned out great! I especially like the finger loop 🤩

By the way, Karlos No. 3 went live last night, in case anyone wants to take a look 😊

Hi, everyone,
the Karl blanket is finished. I started somewhere in the middle, then went “freestyle.” I did make a little sketch, but I juggled the colors along the way.

I’m not sure if this counts as patchwork knitting, but it’s definitely patchwork :-) I knitted this blanket years ago for one of my grandsons and then crocheted the pieces together with black yarn. He loves this blanket, and it’s always in use :-)

Best regards, Inge

Of course your blanket belongs in this category🎉. It looks great and is very much appreciated. I usually crochet the individual pieces together (using slip stitches) as well. It’s just easier to handle. But this time, with the Karl blanket, I started knitting right away.

Great idea with the blanket

@ Inge—yours is great too, and yes, something like that always remains special.

I have one more—I still had to weave in the ends here too 😉

Anja, your blankets are absolutely amazing. I especially love this blue one. I think once all my Karls and Karlos are finished, I’ll move on to making a blanket. But that’ll take a while yet.

Thanks🎉. I’m still working on another one in shades of pink and berry, but I’m still thinking about a suitable color for the spaces in between. I still need to rummage through my stash. The blankets are all made from leftover and scrap yarn. That’s the challenge—making sure it doesn’t look like it’s made from scraps😉

Wow! I think blankets are really, really great, too. But I just don’t have the patience for a blanket. I’ve tried it a few times, but it always ended up turning into something else 😅

Hi there🐑, the Karl blanket is knitted in a 32-stitch grid; the size is determined by the yarn. It took less stamina than knitting a Karl with sock-weight yarn🤣. It probably doesn’t have more patches. Feel free to give it a try.
Have a wonderful day, everyone 🍀
Best regards from Anja
