Sense of Community

I only joined this year and didn’t discover the forum until much later. By now, it’s almost become an addiction. :-)

I think the support when I have questions is great, and so is the camaraderie—at least 90% of the time.

Somehow, many of you already feel like old friends, just like in a craft circle where we share our experiences.

I really like it here with you all. :-)

Fall and Winter Fashion 2017/2018

This colorful "Rainbow" set, consisting of a hat and a loop scarf, is knitted from cozy 75% baby alpaca wool. By experimenting with knit and purl stitches, an "air-cushion pattern" emerged that creates more volume and therefore keeps you nice and warm.

Even beginners can easily recreate the pattern. Everything is explained in detail in the pattern.

Gifts and Gift Wrapping

A special and very decorative gift wrapping for potted flowers is this flower pot cover—for example, for an amaryllis or a poinsettia.

The pattern includes both the pot cover and the stars. Everything is very easy to crochet, even for beginners. Before you know it, you’ll have crocheted a lovely surprise for Christmas.

Here’s the crochet pattern for the “Poinsettia” flower pot cover.

Download Weekend Projects

This baby and children’s hat with an open shawl collar that fastens with buttons is a great weekend project. It can even be knitted in just a few hours, as one customer wrote.

What makes it special: Many children don’t like having anything pulled over their heads. This hat offers the advantages of a pull-on hat: nothing can slip out of place, and it keeps both the head and neck warm at the same time. It’s also very easy to put on and take off.

The checked pattern also provides extra warmth. It was created almost by “accident.”

The pattern is written so that even beginners with basic skills can easily follow along.

Animals and Amigurumi are looking for a new home / adopt now and make your own

This guardian owl has a very important job. It clearly shows on the door whether the room may be entered. This is not only very useful for the bathroom or restroom, but for any room door. After all, children sometimes want to be completely on their own, too—without a key.

With this, you have a nice and totally useful Christmas gift for everyone in the family.

The crochet pattern with lots of photos is written so that even beginners can manage it well.

In my shop, there is also another version for everyone who prefers little bears. And both are even available as a value set.

Here’s the crochet pattern for the guardian owl.

Advanced Patterns ++ with Exciting Challenges

This cozy, warm winter jacket with pockets is very easy to knit for advanced knitters. However, you should already have a bit of experience.

It’s knitted from the bottom up with multiple skeins as a bottom-up raglan, resulting in almost no seams—only at the pockets.

The stitch pattern is nicely stretchy yet still figure-hugging. That makes the measurements a very good fit for sizes 38–42.

Click here for the knitting pattern for the warm cardigan with pockets – bottom-up raglan.

How was your weekend?

Hi Heike,
my weekend was great. Our foster daughter’s children — my grandchildren — were here, and the place was really bustling. :-)

On the side, I used up some leftover yarn and crocheted a protective sleeping bag for my granddaughter’s favorite stuffed animal. You can find it in the “Reste-Beste” thread.

We all went for a walk together in perfect weather around the Burghausen castle grounds and then spent some time in the woods.

A truly wonderful and exceptionally beautiful weekend!

Crafting on the Weekend: Your New Project

A great tip for a Christmas gift the whole family will love is this guard duo, Owl and Teddy Bear. They can be reliably put to use on any room door. Yes, kids want to be alone in their rooms sometimes too. :-)

These bodyguards are easy for beginners to crochet. The pattern describes everything in detail, with photos and explanations included.

The owl and the teddy bear are also available individually as patterns in my shop.

Christmas Gifts for Christmas Grinches

That describes me well, because I’m a Christmas grouch myself. However, I do like a bit of cozy atmosphere indoors.

A poinsettia always looks good as a plant, even after the holidays. How about presenting this poinsettia in a matching cover, whether in your own home or as a gift?

Here is the plant pot cover for the poinsettia

To go with it, there are little Christmas stars that can be used for many purposes.

Unicorn, Owl, Mermaid, Flamingo + Panda + Bunny + Pegasus

How about this little lookout for every door? The guardian owl does her job very conscientiously and shows exactly whether the way is clear—or not. On the one hand, that's very practical on the restroom or bathroom door; on the other hand, children also want to be alone sometimes. My grandchildren asked me for an owl like this for Christmas.

The owl is easy for beginners to crochet, too, because every step is documented in detail with pictures and explanations.

Note: The useful door guardian is also available as a little bear in my shop.

Do you have a favorite stitch?

When crocheting, I like half double crochet and double crochet, as well as post double crochet. I enjoy experimenting with them.

When knitting, I like to experiment with knit and purl stitches. I don’t really like knitting garter stitch, but by chance I’ve now discovered a beautiful pattern that results from using knit stitches and different colors.

Hi knorze83,

Could it be that it’s still zipped?

Choosing Colors for Projects

It varies for me. Since I (fortunately) don’t have a yarn shop nearby, I usually start with an idea for something that I or my granddaughter might need right now. Then I think about the right colors and the right type of yarn. And then… I go online shopping. Most of the time, I end up getting lots of other ideas for different colors, and that’s how my yarn stash grows.

I’ve now decided to dive into my yarn stash and see if I can come up with ideas for what to make with it.

But when I did happen to visit a yarn shop—Traudelina—it went the other way around. I saw the yarn, and right away an idea popped into my head about what it could become. Well, I just had to take that yarn home with me. And here it is, waiting to be used. ;-)

I think I’d need several lifetimes to work through everything I’ve accumulated by now. In any case, it’s a totally great feeling to have a big enough yarn stash. :-)

Buying a Pattern Twice

I agree 100% with everyone who’s spoken here so far, and thank you all for your posts.

Klaus, you did everything perfectly. Honesty is becoming increasingly rare these days, especially on the internet. That makes it all the more wonderful to see it here.

All the authors have put a lot of time and effort into developing the product, producing it, and writing the patterns. Before I started writing patterns myself, I could only begin to understand that.

The reward for it is very small in comparison.

I’m also grateful to every honest customer who buys a pattern multiple times to give it as a gift. And every author will be very happy to see this appreciation for their work.

Anyone else feel this way?

Yeah, Heike, I know exactly what you mean. There have been so many patterns here that have inspired me so much that I fell in love with them and just had to buy them.

But once I started writing my own patterns, that feeling faded. Because I just don’t get around to working through them myself.

I don’t buy magazines anymore either, ever since I discovered this platform. I love the detailed patterns here with step-by-step instructions and photos. They make it so much easier for me to work.

UFO Week: join in now + become UFO King / UFO Queen

Thanks, Josefa! We had that today, too.

Well, the yarn craving has struck again in full force. :-) I actually went back to that great store.

The worst part was that Traudelina was constantly busy with customers, and I… had soooo much time to look at yarn.

Oh dear… and I just liked way too much of it. And I got sooo many ideas for what I could make with it. So much for my good intentions. I’d even made a point of bringing only a little cash and leaving my debit card at home.

And what do creative yarn addicts do in that situation? Of course—buy on account and pay later.

Oh well, now winter is saved and I’ll keep adding to my shop here. :-)

Have a lovely evening, everyone, and thanks again to Traudelina!

Join in: Topic structure for the forum

Yes, like many others, I only found the forum by chance after quite some time, when I took a closer look at the “More” button.

If we want more activity here, it needs to be much more prominent on the main page. Otherwise, simply too few people will find it.

A newsletter dedicated solely to forum topics would actually be a good idea. And a note saying that everyone is invited to participate.

Notes on Projects

For me, the ideation phase is the longest. During that time, I make lots of sketches and try out different color combinations on paper.

Once I have the yarn and get started, I keep a notebook where I write down everything from the very first step. Later, I transfer that information to my computer.

For some patterns, I’ve already reached the point where I type them into the computer as I’m creating them. That saves me time later on, and it also helps me remember what I did.

new + exclusive knitting patterns

With these fingerless mitts that also double as wrist warmers, you’ll never have cold hands again. The advantage is that your hands always stay free. This can be very useful if you want to keep your hands free outside despite the cold. But these fingerless mitts are also great to use indoors, for example when working at the computer. After all, your hands can get cold quickly there.

The red-and-white check pattern is very easy to make, even for beginners with the following basic skills:

  • Knit stitches, purl stitches, and knitting in the round
  • Knitting with a set of double-pointed needles
  • Binding off stitches
  • Changing colors in the round
  • Slip stitches
The pattern shows you every step — including photos. The slip stitches are also shown, so you can easily knit them yourself.

White and Black + Gray + Red + Purple // start crafting now

These red leggings with white stripes are perfect for children in the cooler months. They’re quick and easy to knit.

What makes them special: They’re knitted in one piece from top to bottom - entirely with a circular needle! If you like, you can of course also use a set of double-pointed needles for the legs.

I used a yarn with 65% virgin wool and 35% alpaca here. But any sock yarn can also be used for this.

The special knitting pattern gives these leggings a great fit in every size - and they grow with the child for a while! The pattern describes size 86 - 98 for children aged 1.5 to 3 years.

Yarn // Buying Yarn // Yarn Stash

Well, I’ll join right in. I have a plastic container like that too. And it’s just sitting there unused. I could easily store my summer cotton in it.
Great idea! Thanks for that, Wollness_Desings! :-)

And this is what my joy package looks like, which arrived this morning ... that really saves the day. And it all fits into my almost empty large yarn basket. (Yes, I’ve been diligently working through my stash...)

I can only say it again and again: I’m totally in love with ... yarn! And it’s nice that I’m not alone here in feeling that way. :-)

Wishing you a lovely woolly day
