What’s exciting you right now?

Tina, I can well imagine your joy. It really is a little miracle when such a tiny being is growing inside your own belly and you can even watch it now and then.

The little one is named Juna Merlia; I also think the name is very beautiful. The older one (3 years old) is named Linja. I am just as delighted by her, a little ray of sunshine with lots of energy.

@Schnuckelina
9 months is such a lovely age, even if it can be exhausting sometimes. There is so much to discover, and being with the little ones is simply fun. Time goes by much too quickly.

By the way, something else delights me too: the many fruits in our garden. Every morning I can pick fresh berries for my muesli, which is simply wonderful. In general, I love our garden and the many spots where we can sit and watch the birds. And I am also delighted with our apartment. It offers everything we need to feel at home, for which I am very grateful.

Yes, my granddaughters are what excite me—especially Juna, who was born just under 5 weeks ago. She’s absolutely adorable, and I could watch her sleep for hours. :)

What techniques or skills are you currently learning?

I bought a crochet pattern for a dress/skirt/tunic. I’m currently learning a very pretty lace pattern. That alone wouldn’t be much of a feat, but… I’m crocheting the skirt with a very stiff bouclé cotton. After the first 10 rows—I have to say—I’ve already gotten the hang of it.

I’m also learning a lot right now in the field of health. The book *Water and Salt* has given me some valuable insights that I’m now going to put into practice in my life.

June Projects: Win Great Titles + Meet Nice People Online

So, everyone, I’ve finally sorted through the photos and can show you something.

First up is sweet little Juna—now 4 weeks old. She was lying peacefully in the grass in front of our RV, sleeping soundly. She sleeps a lot in general—at night, she’s already sleeping for 6 hours straight. Here’s a photo of her:

And this is what my crochet project looks like now—I crocheted it on Monday and yesterday while traveling. It’ll probably end up being a skirt after all, because there isn’t enough yarn for a dress. Plus, the yarn is a bit too heavy and too thick for a dress.

And here’s the Puky bag for Linja. It fits on all of her ride-on vehicles. Now she uses it to take her little stuffed animals or her doll for a ride. There’ll be a pattern for it soon, too.

You can do so much with these cute gnomes. They can be filled with little treasures, prepared as an Advent calendar, and even used as egg cozies on the breakfast table.

There is even a gnome house for the gnome family, where lots of things can be hidden too. It can also be used as a utensil or roll basket.

Everything is easy to crochet, even for beginners with basic knowledge. A lovely project for lots of colorful leftover yarn.

Kids love playing all by themselves in their rooms sometimes. Since they’re usually not allowed to lock their doors, a door guard like this comes in handy. It clearly shows whether the coast is clear or not. A very popular gift for kids of all ages! :)

The door guard comes in two versions: an owl and a little bear. It’s best to crochet both right away and give the parents a door guard as well.

June Projects: Win Great Titles + Meet Nice People Online

Ruth, that works great during the ride. :) Today I got a good bit done during those 4 hours in the hot car. That kept me a bit distracted, because we ran into roadworks with slight traffic jams several times. Driving is always much easier on Sundays.

Marlene, I don’t find writing things down all that easy either, especially not crochet lace patterns. Now I’m working from a pattern by Claudia, and it’s going great. I’ve relearned quite a bit in the process.

Since the cotton is pretty heavy and probably won’t be enough for a dress, it’ll more likely become a skirt now. Once I get to the last two skeins, I’ll see what it ends up being. In any case, the yarn will have found a use.

Summer Monday at the end of June: How are you all doing?

Oh dear, Sandra, you’ve still got a hot drive ahead of you. It’s good that you’re taking it in stages. In any case, I wish you a safe trip.

We’re home now, and I’m really glad—especially since the heat is really kicking in now.

I wish your friend all the best and hope she gets through this well. You’ll be back with her soon, after all. In situations like this, friends are truly something very precious.

Hardworking little helpers: Is the heat keeping you from your projects?

I had a “hot” drive home today—we don’t have air conditioning in our almost-vintage RV. I actually crocheted during the drive and got quite a bit done.

June Projects: Win Great Titles + Meet Nice People Online

Wow, you’ve all finished some lovely things again. Real works of art!

Mel, I’ve already admired your sloths. They’re absolutely adorable—just so sweet. :)
Sandra, your king turned out amazing. You’re getting better and better.
And Marlene, your shawl has a very pretty pattern—I’ve noticed you’re getting better too.

My granddaughter got a special bag yesterday that she’d been hoping for. I’d started it on vacation and actually managed to finish it. I’ll show it to you when I’m back home. I just have to get the photos off my card first.

And then I started crocheting a summer dress using some unloved yarn. That’s quite a challenge for me, because the yarn is pretty stiff (bouclé—cotton with viscose). It’s not all that easy to work in a lace pattern. But I’ve gotten the hang of it by now. I’m already curious to see how it’ll look when it’s finished. I’ve used up 3 skeins since yesterday evening. I still have 7 skeins to go.

I’ll post a photo of that in the next few days, too. I’m sure I’ll be able to get a bit more done on the drive home tomorrow.

Summer Monday at the end of June: How are you all doing?

Oh Sandra, that’s such a cute picture. Yeah, I’d say Anton’s a bit wary, too. He’s getting curious on his own. You just have to “sell” the water to him as something really great. ;-)

We’re in the Allgäu with the RV, and it was 30 degrees there today, too. I actually ended up getting my first sunburn of the year. I finally had plenty of time to crochet and made pretty good progress. I’ve been enjoying spending time with my two granddaughters these past few days. Tomorrow we’re heading back home, and I’m looking forward to the garden. With the heat coming, I’d rather be in the much cooler apartment.

Our Favorite Summer Recipes

Delicious Hazelnut Ice Cream from the Thermomix for 3–4 people (or in a powerful blender)

Preparation:
  • Freeze 2–3 bananas, pre-cut into pieces about 2–3 cm in size. That way they can be taken out in portions.
Ingredients for 3–4 people:
  • 30 g (2 tbsp) birch sugar
  • 70–75 g cashews
  • 75 g roasted hazelnuts
  • 20 g cocoa (unsweetened)
  • approx. 260–300 g frozen banana (roughly equals 3 bananas)
Instructions:
  • Finely grind the birch sugar with the cashews, hazelnuts, and cocoa
for 10 sec. on speed 10
(even if the hazelnuts were already ground beforehand)
  • Then add the frozen banana pieces and mix for 1 min. (or a little longer) on speed 10 with the help of the spatula.
This makes a super delicious, healthy hazelnut ice cream—without milk and without sugar. The birch sugar can also be omitted if you use a little more banana (e.g., an amount of 300–350 g). You can also add some vanilla.

The ice cream can certainly also be made with other nuts, for example walnuts. Just give it a try. With the roasted hazelnuts, it has a slight nougat flavor.

Note: The ice cream is very filling. :)

Enjoy! Here’s a photo.
