Weekend Plans: Have a relaxing weekend, everyone.

You can see a stork’s nest from where you are, Mel? That’s really special! You live in such a beautiful area.

Petra, that looks fantastic—what you’ve created there with decoupage. :)

Marlene, your jacket looks great, too.

Sandra, you’re going to look absolutely amazing at the Schlagermove. Those are totally my colors. You’ve really pulled it off brilliantly.

My top to go with the skirt is coming along. Tomorrow I’ll take a photo of the progress so far.

Sandra, I think your prince is very cute, too. However, I wouldn’t recognize him as a prince like that—he’d need a crown on his head.

As for the bees, they suffer especially during periods of extreme heat and drought. They need small, shallow water sources to drink from. Even a small plate on the windowsill will do. Bees are very important to our ecosystem, so it’s good that we can help them in such simple ways.

Everything for the Start of School / First Graders / Kindergarten Children

These “leftover eaters” are a fun and original addition to a school cone. They’re super easy to crochet and decorate using all kinds of leftover yarn. You can close them at the top and fill them with lots of interesting gifts beforehand.

They look great as pencil holders or for storing odds and ends and other small gifts.

For beginners with some crochet experience, this is an interesting and enjoyable project.

Weekend Projects: Leftover Yarn Weekend :-)

A leftover yarn project that doll moms will especially love: these two pairs of pants. They fit dolls measuring 40–50 cm, so Baby Born and similar dolls too.

Both pairs of pants are very easy to knit, even for beginners with knitting experience.

Note: My shop also has matching tops to go with them.

Here’s the knitting pattern for the doll pants

The “Scrap Eater Gang” loves anything left over—even toilet paper rolls. There’s plenty of room for creativity.

They’re very useful, for example, as pencil or needle holders, for odds and ends, small gifts, or candy. They’re a special and fun hit at kids’ birthday parties and in school cones. They’re very easy to close at the top.

This cute little sleeping bag for dolls or favorite stuffed animals (approx. 20+ cm tall) can be knitted quickly and easily from leftover yarn. There are many possible color combinations. Any little doll or teddy owner is sure to love it and will be much more eager to go to sleep.

The pattern includes two different versions. Both are well suited for beginners with some knitting experience.

Mel, that’s a great idea with the bumblebee pool. It looks fantastic!
I just read yesterday that it’s really important for bees to have water sources to drink from when it’s hot. We’re already thinking about what to set up for them. Since we have large rocks in the middle of the birdbath, bees can be found there from time to time.

Sofi, your grandma looks absolutely adorable. That’s a very nice gift idea and is sure to be a hit.

I’ve now started on my top to match the skirt. It has a pretty lace pattern that I remember from when I first started knitting. I’ll decide exactly how it turns out as I go along.

I wish you all a wonderful weekend!

Wooly Wednesday: Vacation Yarn?

Reading is also my hobby, and I prefer to do it with “real” books. So I always bring one of my books along on vacation.

I always pack a separate backpack for my knitting and crocheting supplies. Last time I only had two projects, and I want to keep it that way in the future—so that at least everything still fits in the backpack.

The trailer for yarn is funny… My many, many balls of yarn at home are just sitting there for now, waiting for better times when I feel like using them up. I could easily open my own yarn shop at the campground with my stash. Somehow I have the feeling they’re not getting any smaller. It’s just like trying to lose weight… ;-)

I’ve stayed strong so far, even though my favorite yarn is on sale right now. I haven’t even looked at all those beautiful colors yet… and I’d rather distract myself by continuing to work on my projects.

Going on vacation without yarn? Oh no! I’d really be missing something then. I just love it too much.

Hello to the newcomers

Hi Hansi,
a warm welcome to our creative group, and thank you for your kind words about us authors. That kind of appreciation always feels good, because everyone puts a lot of love, creativity, and hard work into this—and, of course, joy too.

We’re so glad to get to know you here. Maybe you’d like to join our monthly challenges as well. You can find the current one here:
https://www.crazypatterns.net/de/forum/topic/108460/juli-projekte-motivierende-titel-gewinnen-eine-gute-zeit-mit-netten-leuten-verbringen

It’s really exciting to show each other our work, and it’s incredibly motivating.
Your string art would be something completely new, and I’m sure many people would be interested—including me. If you have a photo of it, feel free to share it here.

I’m sure you have a lot of work with your animals, but they give you so much love in return. That’s a very lovely responsibility to have.

I wish you and everyone here a wonderful day and lots of joy in whatever you’re doing right now.

Monika

Sandra, your mice are so cute. What a great gift idea!

Mel, your tip about the herbs and salt is fantastic. I always freeze things like that in small jars (without salt) and then take them out when I need them. I mix the herbs with a little salt and olive oil. Once thawed, it keeps for a very long time in the fridge.

Now my skirt is finished, and I’m starting a swatch for a matching top in the yellow yarn. The skirt was actually supposed to be solid-colored, but I didn’t have enough blue yarn.

Here’s what it looks like when it’s finished:

Sandra, I gave these ice pop molds to my son a year ago. They’re great for the kids. He uses them to make juice pops.

We also have josta berries in the garden; we add them to our cereal every day. They’re a cross between black currants and gooseberries. Very tasty! They taste more like black currants.

So… now I’m facing a huge challenge. I really feel like a yarn junkie. ;-)

My favorite Drops cotton is on sale this month, and there are sooo many beautiful colors. Now I’m really curious to see if I can stick to my plan. Because I’m missing a few colors in my stash. You never know… :)  The next color sale will come around eventually, and I’ll need plenty of options then.

I’ll let you know if I stay strong enough.... If I manage that, I’ll be able to hold out even longer, because I (actually) want to stick with this for at least a year.

Hardworking little helpers: Do you have the day off because of the heat?

Sandra, you’re lucky that Grandma and Grandpa live nearby. That’s a huge advantage for everyone. When my son was little, I unfortunately didn’t have that pleasure. Back then, I even had another child in daycare to look after. And now, unfortunately, we live too far away.

We had cherry cake today—it was delicious! My husband took care of pitting the cherries by hand. I just ordered a cherry pitter—it makes the job much easier.

Sandra, that sounds delicious… rosemary-garlic oil… I’m going to try making that sometime, too. I love ideas like that. Today, I still have gooseberry jam on my to-do list. I absolutely have to use them up.

Today was cherry day—my husband pitted them all by hand, and we used some for a cake… delicious! Tomorrow, I’ll add some to my granola, and I’ll freeze the rest for the next cake.

Akela, that’s a great idea—making shopping nets from a laundry net. I always go shopping with nets like that, too, but I bought mine ready-made.

Here, the temperatures are a bit more bearable now, at 25–26 degrees. I’m crocheting every spare minute because I want to finish my skirt. I don’t care how hot it is—it always works with cotton.

Wow, this place is bursting with pure creativity! So many beautiful new projects—just great! :)
And it’s really wonderful that you’re all participating again!

Marlene, that already looks really great—I’m also excited to see the final result.
Sandra, I think your dreamcatcher turned out especially well. It’s a lovely way to encourage your friend to get well. And on top of that, you were creative and hard at work making new treats.
Claudia, your hamburger with fries—such a creative, awesome idea! I bet no one would guess what’s hidden underneath. I also think your hats are fantastic. I imagine it’s tricky to crochet with that kind of material.

I’ll be finishing my skirt soon—definitely within the next few days. Here’s what it looks like now:

I’ll probably knit or crochet a shirt or top out of the yellow cotton to go with it. I actually prefer knitting, but I’m not quite sure yet how I want it to look.

And then this month I’ll tackle my second UFO… the leggings for Linja. All that’s left is the rest of the second leg.

Hi Luise, welcome to the forum! :)

Have you tried asking the author herself yet? Since she wrote the pattern and knows exactly what it’s about, she’s surely the best person to help you.

Either her contact information is listed in the pattern, or you can send her a private message via Crazypatterns .

Maybe someone here is familiar with the yarn you mentioned, too.

Final Sprint and Awards Ceremony / June 2019 Edition

Heat King/Queen in June
[x] I bravely made it through the June heat.
Details: I even crocheted in the car on the trip to our vacation, and at the campground too. Otherwise, also very often in the garden, yes, even at 30 degrees. ;-)

UFO King/Queen in June
[ x] In June I finished a UFO (unfinished object = a handmade project that had been waiting to be completed) and therefore earned the title UFO King/Queen in June.
Details about the UFO / UFOs in June:
My summer top with a lace pattern was finished in June, and even the pattern for it too.

Best with Leftovers in June
[ x] In June I used up a lot of my leftover yarn / emptied my leftovers basket, and by doing so I truly earned the title Best with Leftovers.
Details about the leftover-yarn projects in June:
I knitted little outfits for my twin teddy bears from leftover yarn.

Yarn Diet / Yarn Emperor/Empress / Inner-Pig-Dog Tamer in June
[x ] I haven’t bought any yarn for quite some time. So the title Yarn Empress definitely and deservedly belongs to me.
[x ] I would like the honorary title Inner-Pig-Dog Tamer, because the final round for world domination / domination over this galaxy / Milky Way / / Half-Year Empress / Three-Quarter-Year Empress was and is not enough for me. = The goal is 1 whole year without buying yarn.
I last bought yarn in November 2018 and now want to keep it up for as long as possible—maybe until November 2019.

Busy Little Helper in June
[ x] In June I was able to work on or even finish many handmade projects.
  • Finished the summer top with a lace pattern (photo below)
  • Knitted two outfits for teddy bears
  • Finished knitting the leggings for my granddaughter—except for one leg (it will be a gift)
  • Started a crocheted skirt—this is what it looks like right now:
  • Crocheted a bag for my granddaughter’s Puky and tricycle (gift)
[ x] I was also very busy in everyday life in June.
I harvested lots of berries and made jam.
I have finished most of my husband’s bookkeeping for 2018.

Pattern Optimization Champion + Authors’ Hero = Author Title
[ x] In June I uploaded at least one new pattern here on Crazypatterns.
The summer top with a lace pattern—airy, elegant, timeless, and fun to knit.
[ x] In June I worked on the current seasonal themes (summer, vacation, etc.) and uploaded one pattern or even several for them.

Rescuer of Stubborn Yarn / Stubborn Material, formerly called Stepchild-Yarn Rescuer //
Stepchild-Material Rescuer in June
[x ] In June I used old or unloved yarn and am therefore a rescuer of stubborn yarn / yarn rescuer, or I gave this yarn a new purpose in life. :- )
I’m currently using the yarn to make a crocheted skirt that is almost finished.

Learned Something New in June
[x ] I learned something new in June (e.g., a new technique / type of stitch, etc.) and am therefore a winner. :- )
I’m currently learning to crochet new lace patterns, a completely new area for me.

More:

[ x] I made use of the sunny + hot days and had fun in the garden and on the balcony.
Details: I even crocheted in the car during the trip to our vacation and at the campground.

Hello to the newcomers

Hi Renate,
it’s great to have you here! And thanks for your kind words about the authors. :) I love this platform and its diversity, too.

Hi everyone,

I joined here in late 2016 because I was looking for a pattern myself. And I was pleasantly surprised by how lovingly and thoroughly the patterns here are written.

My granddaughter inspired me to create my own designs. So I immediately wrote the pattern for them as well—actually, at first just for myself, so I could make the design again later.

And that’s how I started posting my first patterns here in March 2017. I have to say, I’m amazed myself at how many there are now. At 65 years old, it’s the most wonderful hobby in the world for me, and (after more than 20 years away from it) I can’t even imagine life without crocheting and knitting anymore. A day without needles is a day wasted for me. ;-)

What I really love here is the sense of community and how helpful everyone is. That’s why I enjoy participating in the monthly project threads. It’s just fun and incredibly inspiring to talk shop together and show what we’ve just finished. It almost feels like we’ve known each other in person for a long time.

A warm welcome to all the newcomers, and best regards
Monika

What’s exciting you right now?

It’s great, Josefa, that we’re getting to know one of your hobbies. :-)

I’ve also been baking our own bread and rolls for years—always whole-grain and preferably with organic spelt. We don’t even like store-bought bread anymore.

The 3-minute bread, for example, is a great option when you’re in a hurry. It always turns out well and tastes great. I also bake low-gluten oat and seed bread from time to time. That’s pretty quick and easy, too, and it’s very easy to digest.
