Since we’ve just started the process of buying a house, I’m staying home with my yarn this year. That way, no ball of yarn feels left out because it had to stay home. After all, I couldn’t possibly take them all with me...
I always take a current project with me on vacation—but only one that I can actually finish. All the other skeins have to stay at home and wait for better times. ;-)
I always take a little something to crochet with me on vacation. But it has to be a simple project that doesn’t require a lot of fiddling and uses just a few different skeins. This year, I made a shirt by Wollholic Claudia. It was perfect: I just had to pack one yarn cake and the pattern.
I always take a whole lot of crafting supplies with me on vacation. Actually, my yarn, stuffing, needles, and the like always have their own travel bag... crazy, I know! But I’m always worried that I won’t have enough with me in case I get hit with another crochet idea while on vacation. And then there are the projects I’ve planned... However, even that bulging bag of yarn doesn’t stop me from visiting the next yarn shop at my vacation destination. I always end up buying something—even if it’s just a skein of sock yarn. Once a yarn addict, always a yarn addict!
I always have to bring my crafting supplies with me—and plenty of them, too—but almost every craft store is my kind of place. When I try to stay strong, my husband says, “There’s a store over there—go on in, I’ll wait outside.”
There are even stores that are already on my vacation itinerary because they always have such great things I can’t find anywhere else.
I haven’t taken any yarn with me on vacation for the past two years. Ever since I started my online business in 2008, yarn has pretty much always been the center of my world. But that also meant I’d been neglecting my “old” “favorite” hobby: reading!!
I’m making up for that now, especially on vacation. My husband already shakes his head when I pack 3–4 books for a vacation (I’m a fan of books; e-readers and audiobooks aren’t “my thing” yet).
But who knows—that could change very quickly.
I only have one project with me, but I’ve brought crochet hooks in different sizes...
A few years ago, I traveled without any yarn at all because I deliberately wanted to take a break from it - and I missed it sooo much that I ended up buying some yarn and a hook.
Now I’m better prepared...
On vacation, I only buy yarn if I see something really special - like in a little shop with hand-spun yarn in Scotland; I just had to get some. Or if I actually run out of yarn...
Reading is also my hobby, and I prefer to do it with “real” books. So I always bring one of my books along on vacation.
I always pack a separate backpack for my knitting and crocheting supplies. Last time I only had two projects, and I want to keep it that way in the future—so that at least everything still fits in the backpack.
The trailer for yarn is funny… My many, many balls of yarn at home are just sitting there for now, waiting for better times when I feel like using them up. I could easily open my own yarn shop at the campground with my stash. Somehow I have the feeling they’re not getting any smaller. It’s just like trying to lose weight… ;-)
I’ve stayed strong so far, even though my favorite yarn is on sale right now. I haven’t even looked at all those beautiful colors yet… and I’d rather distract myself by continuing to work on my projects.
Going on vacation without yarn? Oh no! I’d really be missing something then. I just love it too much.
