July Projects and June Projects 2020: The Crazypatterns Crafting Group

Working hard! Claudia, you make amazing things. The colors of your sweater are awesome!

Sandra, without the description, I would’ve thought your flamingo was a ballet dancer. ;-)
I haven’t worked with sponge yarn yet, but maybe I’ll give it a try someday—who knows.

I do prefer soft, cozy yarn. I’ve almost finished the summer sweater for my little star. Next up are the matching pants. Here’s what the sweater looks like now:

And here’s the shawl I’ve started. It’s nice and soft and fluffy, too.

How's the yarn?

My yarn supply is slowly dwindling because I’m still on a diet. I’ve used up a lot of leftover yarn crocheting nests for wild animals.

Weekend Projects: Start Thinking About Summer Now

This cute, colorful summer skirt for little girls (ages 3–4) is a great weekend project. Experienced knitters can make it very easily.

It’s best to knit the doll clothes to go with it right away, too; then the doll mom will be delighted with the matching look. The doll (approx. 40–50 cm tall) also gets a matching sweater and a headband. I used up the leftovers from the skirt above here.

This baby pinafore dress, which fits from 6–18 months, is also a lovely weekend project. Very easy to knit with a great result.

Sandra, that bat is so cute! :) That’s something completely different.

I’ve now finished the summer sweater for my girlfriend using bouclé yarn and will send it off tomorrow. It’s basically the counterpart to my red one. Here’s what it looks like:

And since I don’t like working on just one project at a time, I’ve started a shawl for myself using very soft sock yarn. As for the doll’s sweater, I’m still waiting for the right needle, which I hope will arrive in the mail tomorrow.

Quick Summer Treats—Vegan

Vegan and gluten-free cookies made with no sugar at all

I used the Thermomix for this recipe. But it will surely also work in another blender or with an immersion blender. A great recipe, also suitable as a sweet snack for children. We always keep them on hand.

Ingredients:
  • 60-70 g dates
  • approx. 200 g bananas (2 pieces)
  • 100 g finely ground oats - alternatively rolled oats
  • 200 g “flour substitute” of your choice and personal preference - e.g. ground millet, amaranth, nuts, almonds, or coconut flour, etc.
  • 80-90 g liquid coconut oil
Preparation:
  • Cut the dates into small pieces or, in the Thermomix, 10 sec/speed 5
  • Then add the bananas in pieces and, in the Thermomix, another 10 sec/speed 5
  • Add the ground oats and the “flour substitute” as well as the coconut oil and mix again for
    10 sec/speed 5
Proceed similarly in a blender, but choose a low setting here.

Baking:
Use 2 teaspoons to place small mounds on the baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Bake at 180 degrees for approx. 20-25 min. No preheating is needed. The cookies should be lightly browned.

Enjoy!

A Tour of the Garden

Yeah, that’s really too bad. But you can also set up a little garden right on your balcony. For example, our strawberries and lettuce are growing on the balcony, too. That way, I can get to them faster, and the snails can’t get to them. ;-)

Quick Summer Treats—Vegan

A quick note: For once, the cake batter here is NOT vegan! I still use organic eggs for this.

Today, I made a strawberry dessert in little bowls using the recipe above. I’ll also share a very quick and easy sponge cake recipe here that I’ve been using for a long time.

First, I made the batter and divided it into small bowls. The advantage of this is that you can make small batches of tartlets; the rest goes in the fridge or gets frozen. The two glass bowls, for example, are sealed and placed in the freezer. Here, I’ve prepared 3 small bowls. After baking and cooling, top with strawberries (or other fruit) and then spread the cream (see recipe above) on top. Then place the bowls in the fridge. After about 2–3 hours, they’re ready to serve.

The recipe for the quick sponge cake fruit base (makes enough for one baking sheet or two cake layers)

  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 80–100 g birch sugar
  • a little vanilla
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 tbsp vinegar (I use raspberry vinegar)
Beat these ingredients until fluffy.

  • Then add 150 g fine whole-grain spelt flour
  • and 1 packet of baking powder
. The batter is relatively runny and should be spread thinly into the (greased) pans. It will rise to about twice its original volume.

Bake at 200 degrees (convection 180) for 15–20 minutes on the middle rack. Baking time may vary slightly depending on your oven. You don’t need to preheat the oven. It works great this way, too.

It’s really quick and tastes absolutely delicious!

Here are my photos from today’s baking session:

Just out of the oven

Petra, that’s such a unique and cute idea with the bottle. :)
Marion, I already love your sweater—the color combo too—but especially the pattern.
bergli, there are so many cute ideas for babies. You’ll come up with plenty more.

I’m already working on the armholes for my friend’s sweater, so it’ll be done soon.

Today I started designing a summer outfit for my little star (baby doll). It includes a sweater that doesn’t need any buttons at all, and a matching pair of pants. As always with me, the finer details will come together as I knit. I’m already looking forward to the result. Marion, you can look forward to it too. ;-)

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!

A Tour of the Garden

Here’s a new tour of the garden that I captured for you yesterday...

I bought this bouquet of garden flowers at the weekly market.

You can already see little apples on the tree.

The late-season raspberries already have blossoms, which are being busily visited by bees and bumblebees.

Our roses are simply gorgeous this year.

The currants are already turning red.

The peonies are also absolutely gorgeous this year next to our patio—they started blooming right on time for Pentecost.

And we also have a small patch of wildflowers. There, everything is allowed to grow wild as it pleases.

The fig tree is putting out leaves, and lots of birds are flitting about on it, even though it’s still pretty small.

And then there are a few pansies standing in the entryway. These ones have been spared by the snails so far. Now we’ve planted snapdragons, but they aren’t blooming yet.
