dear little helpers,
how are you kicking off June?

I’m kicking off June with a nest for wildlife and a sweater that I’m giving to my friend.

Hi. I’ve just started working on my mom’s Christmas present. It’s going to be a table runner. I have some free time right now. Luckily, my husband is still home and taking care of Anton, so I can take it easy.

Hi there,
my June project actually dates back to May:
a filet crochet wall hanging (a large sailing ship).
129 rows of 285 stitches each. That’s going to take a while.

I actually made it for myself, but people have already expressed interest...

I’m starting to sew clothes and toys again for our children’s charity; I already embroidered the first ITH Teddxs yesterday—I digitized the file myself.

Marlies: Why don’t you show us how far along you are with your mural? I’d be interested to see.

After starting two attempts at crocheting sweaters in May—both of which I ended up unraveling—I’m now on my third try.

I’ve decided to knit this time, and I’ve already started. It’s going to be a summer sweater made from leftover yarn
in shades of blue with a lace pattern.

I started June by finishing up a children’s jacket. I’m working on the button placket and then I just have a few loose ends to weave in.

@ Arni:
Unfortunately, I haven’t had time to crochet in the last few days, so I’m still at 31 rows.

The waves are already visible.
I’m curious to see how it turns out. I’m already looking forward to more photos.

In June, I’d like to keep working on my cardigan and, on the side, crochet little bags for charity (a children’s hospice). But I don’t have much time for that. We bought an old house and are currently renovating it, and I’m back at work too :)

Mel, you’ve got quite a few things planned.

Congratulations on buying the house! 🏠

Yes, Mel, congratulations from me, too. I’m sure you’ll pull it off beautifully.

I’ve been sewing again these past few days for our local children’s food bank—a teddy bear (I have a really nice teddy bear sewing-pattern book with great patterns), then two long-sleeve shirts, and a little pair of pull-on jeans

Akela: What do you mean by “Kindertafel”? In any case, it looks like something really good, and you sew such great things!

I just started my first pair of toe-up socks (it’s a KAL) after I mostly finished crocheting the granny squares for the bag yesterday.

The children’s food bank here supports children whose parents are on Hartz IV and therefore socially disadvantaged, as well as the children’s homes here; and since we also have an anchor center here, these families are supported too. Every day the KT packs and distributes several hundred lunch bags, as well as to the large local daycare center. Donations are always welcome, and since my grandchildren were already older back then and I still enjoy sewing teddy bears and so on, my husband said that now that we have this KT, if I enjoy it so much I should sew for the children, which I have been doing ever since. Friends support me with donations in kind, just as I always make them myself. Unfortunately, there is more and more poverty in our actually very rich country, and I help with my modest means to alleviate it a little. My father always said a child’s little hand fills up so quickly, and he is right. The boss always wants to get me in front of the press, but every time I say no thank you, because the thought of children’s eyes lighting up when they receive our gifts is reward and joy enough for me.

@ Arni

here are the first 580 meters of yarn...

By now, half of it is done.

Best regards, Marlies

Akela, thanks for the explanation—I think that’s wonderful, so much more personal than just a monetary donation (which is certainly necessary, too!)
