Of course, there’s also a (white) vest for the ladies. This one has a slimming effect because it features vertical stripes that are simply crocheted on. It’s also fitted at the waist.

This vest was knitted using bouclé cotton, but can also be made with any other yarn of similar yardage.

The pattern is for size 40/42.

How about a warm wool vest with a cable pattern for the men in your life!? It’s perfect for almost any occasion. You’re sure to make “him” happy with this—even for Christmas, for example.

Who has (or hasn’t) bought any yarn? How’s the yarn doing?

I haven’t bought any yarn for over half a year now and have successfully resisted every temptation. And I’m going to keep it up at least until the end of the year. :)

Beginner Projects: Using Leftover Yarn, Fabric Scraps, and Cardstock / Craft Supplies

The “Scrap Eaters” gang is perfect for all kinds of leftovers. Although they’re mainly crocheted from yarn, there’s plenty of room for creative ideas here. You can incorporate buttons and lots of other things. The inner structure consists of a toilet paper roll. Very easy to make if you have basic crochet skills.

The “Scrap Eaters” are also a great extra for a school cone. They can be filled with lots of little surprises and then serve as a fun pencil holder on the desk. They also make delightful party favors for children’s birthday parties. If you’re really diligent, you can even crochet and assemble them as an Advent calendar.

Final Sprint and Awards Ceremony // July Edition 2020

No UFOs in July - thanks to the monthly thread :)
My shawl was finished in the same month after all.

I'm bravely sticking to my yarn diet, despite many temptations!
I haven't bought any yarn since December 2019 - I'm going to keep it up for at least 1 year.
The goal is Inner Slacker Tamer - at least.
By now I'm already a Half-Year Tamer.

I was also a busy little elf in July.
  • The outfit for the baby doll was finished.
  • I stuck with the shawl until it was done. That was sooo many stitches.
  • The sweater for my granddaughter for Christmas was also finished in the same month.
  • I'm giving myself points for discipline for that.
  • I made lots of fruit into jam and froze some,
  • tried out and created various new recipes
  • and baked various breads from old recipes.
Here are the photos:

The sweater for my granddaughter

Sandra, Sam is totally cute with the 3. Anton will definitely be happy. Once again, you’ve done everything perfectly.

The sweater for Linja—I’ll have to get back to that tonight. I didn’t like the collar, so I unraveled it twice. It’ll probably work out on the third try, I hope. Then I’ll take a photo tomorrow.

Today I also knitted the first swatch for my new shawl and am testing how it looks when it’s a bit bigger. I’ll show it to you sometime in August, once I’ve made a bit more progress.

Weekend Projects + Attractive Bestsellers

December will be here sooner than you think. This very special Advent calendar is a great garden project. Here, you can crochet gnomes of various sizes from leftover yarn and fill them with little surprises. A delight for young and old alike.

The gnomes can also be used as egg cozies or as fun toys. The gnome house is the highlight on December 24 and can later be used as a bread basket or to store yarn or supplies. And when playing, the gnomes love it when they’re allowed to sleep in the house every now and then.

Easy to crochet, even for beginners with basic skills.

Note: The gnomes and the house (basket) are also available individually as patterns in my shop.

A bag like this is an absolute must for every balance bike, Puky, or tricycle. It fits perfectly on them. You’ll make any toddler very happy with it, because they can collect treasures or take their favorite stuffed animal along for the ride.

With good crochet experience, you can easily finish it in a weekend. The bag has a double bottom and can withstand quite a bit.

Fall 2020

For walks in the fall, toddlers need a warm jacket. This colorful jacket has a hood and pockets, which little ones really love. The jacket is knit top-down with raglan shaping. Good knitting experience is recommended here.

To the knitting pattern

For babies, there is a lovely warm outfit made from sock yarn, consisting of harem pants, a jacket, and a hat. A pretty knit-and-purl stitch pattern is worked into it. Knitting experience is recommended here as well. The jacket and pants are also available separately—the link leads to the savings set. The outfit fits from 3 to at least 12 months.

To the knitting pattern for the savings set

Of course, a baby blanket is also a must in the fall. This one clearly has a lot of heart knit into it. A pretty project for experienced knitters, also great as a gift.

To the knitting pattern

A sweater made from sock yarn is the ideal clothing for toddlers in the fall. This one fits sizes 86–98 and is easy to knit. The solid-colored collar adds a pretty color accent.

To the knitting pattern

This baby's first jacket is knit in traditional Trachten style with a pretty heart lace pattern. It has a hood, so the newborn stays nice and warm up to 4 months. Later, a doll can wear it.

To the knitting pattern

This cardigan will then fit a toddler from about 1 to 1.5 years. It grows with the child up to at least 2.5 years. Easy to knit with no seams. Knitting experience is required.

To the knitting pattern

One thing that definitely shouldn't be missing in the fall is leggings. These baby leggings are knit from sock yarn and fit from 4 months to about 1.5 years. They are easy to knit, provided you have knitting experience. And by the way, even the thickest diaper fits comfortably inside.

To the knitting pattern

For little ones from 1.5 to 3 years, these leggings can be knit. The yarn is the weight of sock yarn, which can also be used as a substitute. An elastic waistband is inserted at the top. And most importantly, they are super comfortable and move with every motion.

To the knitting pattern

And of course there are also leggings for 3-year-olds, which will then fit up to about age 5. Like the baby leggings, they are knit from sock yarn and keep children cozy and warm on walks or at the playground. Naturally, comfortable freedom of movement is guaranteed here too.

To the knitting pattern

Something that absolutely belongs on every Puky balance bike or tricycle in the fall is a bag like this. That way, collected treasures can be taken along right away. Experienced crocheters can crochet the bag quickly. It has a double bottom so nothing can get lost.

To the crochet pattern

In the fall, it can quickly get chilly around the neck. That's when a buttoned collar scarf like this is just the thing. Especially for anyone who doesn't really like wearing a scarf, it's a truly great alternative. And it has another advantage too: it's very easy to knit, even for beginners with basic skills.

The collar scarf comes in two versions. One is made from cotton with 120–125 meters of yardage per 50 g.

To the knitting pattern

And the lower one here is knit from sock yarn or leftover yarn, meaning with a thinner yarn.

To the knitting pattern

If you prefer a loop scarf or scarf with a lace pattern and gradient yarn, this model would be just right. The pattern can even be expanded so that the scarf/loop can be adjusted in length or width to your own wishes. A lovely project for experienced knitters.

How are you wrapping up the month? Are you happy with July?

I’m also happy with July. I celebrated my 28th wedding anniversary and spent a lot of time enjoying the garden in beautiful weather.

August Projects and July Projects, Part 2: the Crazypatterns Crafting Group

Wow, there’s really a lot going on here at the end of the month! I’m impressed!

Sandra, you’re making some really elaborate party favors. They’re going to be a hit!

Ruth, you’re definitely going to be crowned the queen of perseverance and diligence. That was an incredible amount of embroidery work. You’ve shown a lot of patience. And the result is truly impressive. Your kittens turned out very cute, too.

Dear Gabriele, thank you so much! :) Your two-piece set looks absolutely fantastic. I’d love to have something like that for myself, too.

Tomorrow I finally want to finish Linja’s new sweater. I started knitting the neckline today, but I unraveled it again. I didn’t like how it looked. Tonight I’ll crochet around the edge. Let’s see how that turns out. Then I’ll weave in the ends and it’ll be done. I want to get that finished by tomorrow. In August, I’ll start a new shawl for myself and a sweater for little Juna.

Why are triangular shawls so popular?

I have to admit that I only recently discovered my love for triangular shawls. I’ve already knitted my third one, and I mostly wear them in the morning or evening on the patio or in the garden. Or when I’m feeling a bit chilly, but a sweater would be too warm. It’s really a great alternative. And that’s why I already have yarn ready for a fourth shawl. Then I’ll have all the colors I love.

Quick Summer Treats—Vegan

My recipe for a vegan Parmesan alternative—quick and easy

Ingredients:
1 cup cashews (DO NOT soak beforehand!)
1/2 cup nutritional yeast
1 tsp salt (I use Himalayan salt)

Grind everything finely in a blender for a few seconds. It should still be a bit crumbly.
It tastes delicious on pasta, for example, but also on other dishes.
I only use it raw. Since it doesn’t melt, I don’t bake it into dishes—instead, I sprinkle it on a pizza only after it’s already baked.

This vegan alternative stays fresh for a while when stored in a cool, dry place. In our house, though, it gets eaten up quickly.

Here’s a photo

Quick Summer Treats—Vegan

Of course, everyone is welcome to share their own delicious recipes here too, as long as they fit the topic. I have another quick one that I just made.

If you have bananas left over, they can be very ripe too.

Banana Popsicles

Cut the bananas in half and insert a wooden stick into the thicker end. Then place them in a container and freeze.

Before thawing, melt some couverture chocolate (I use dark couverture). Then dip the cold banana in it and roll it in shredded coconut, ground nuts, or muesli. Everyone can choose whatever they like.

Your kids will love these too. They’re inexpensive, healthier than store-bought ice cream, and taste absolutely delicious. I’ll add photos as soon as I freeze some again.
