Tablecloth Weights

Dear users, dear authors,
Do you like or use tablecloth weights?

Yes, we’ve been using them since this summer. We only have a small awning over the patio. And now that we’ve rotated the table, I placed a small piece of plastic sheeting there to protect the wood from getting wet when it rains. To keep it all in place, there are now two small fruit-shaped weights dangling from the bottom. Not pretty, but it does the job in rainy weather.

I once saw a great pattern, and the idea was very original. I can only describe it. So, here’s what you’ll need: clothespins, some slightly larger pebbles, and leftover yarn.  Then you crochet around the pebble and attach it to the clothespin with a row of chain stitches. Done! And no more tablecloths blowing away. Maybe I’ll even manage to crochet some myself someday.

We always use tablecloth weights in the garden. The large patio table also has a tablecloth on it all summer long because I think it looks nicer that way. And to keep it from blowing away, I’ve placed my homemade flower-shaped pendants all around it. To give them the necessary weight, they have a thick nut from the hardware store inside. Everyone who sits at this table admires them and, sooner or later, starts playing with them.

I’ve also made some as a gift for my friend. I put them in a matching little basket, which I spruced up with pretty fabric and crocheted trim. She still has them today and loves them. Luckily, I took a picture of the gift, so I can show you a photo...
