Fun-Design, that doesn’t sound good at all. Your poor sister. I hope she gets well soon, and I hope everything goes well for her.

Things are slowly looking up for me at work—I’ve already been able to work at the hotel for a few days. Hygiene is a top priority, but we don’t have to wear face masks while working. On trains and buses and while shopping, face masks aren’t required here, but we do have to maintain social distancing.
Otherwise, everyone seems to be in good health.

So my question is, are Entrelac and Tunisian crochet the same thing,
or are there differences?

We had a cozy evening watching TV today.
Things are slowly picking up again at the hotel too, which means going to bed early—I have to work tomorrow.

I used to do a lot of paint-by-numbers projects, too. The finished paintings are still lying around somewhere—I don’t really have a place for them.

No more weekend for me. After being on short-time work, I got to go back to work again today, and of course tomorrow too. I’m so exhausted and tiiiired today.
Of course, it’s check-outs at the hotel. Only 40 rooms are occupied.
Let’s see how all this develops.

Hi Monika,
sure, I can explain it to you. The picture is printed on a kind of thick plastic sheet, with an adhesive layer on top, like on a piece of tape. There’s also an extra layer of regular film on top for protection, which you can remove or peel off when you start your picture.
It’s basically “paint by numbers,” but with tiny stones (they come in square or round shapes). They’re as tiny as computer confetti. It comes with a little stylus and a kind of wax—you can press the stylus into it every now and then if the stones don’t stick to it; the stylus is there to help you place the stones more easily.
I usually stick them on from top to bottom, row by row (after sorting the stones into little boxes first). It comes with a small, grooved dish where you can place the stones and pick them up more easily because they’re lined up in rows.
It’s kind of hard to explain. You can also Google it—it’s explained there too.
But it’s a lot of fun; you could even do it with your grandkids, but be careful with the stones—choking hazard, so only under supervision.

ruthk, oh, so that’s what this hook looks like. I once saw one at my ex-mother-in-law’s. Wasn’t that thing also used for knotting?
My grandpa always knotted wall hangings; does anyone still do that?

Does anyone else remember these tissue holders?
A school friend of mine from back then crocheted this one for me. It’s been around for 40 years now. I keep my treasures in it, like those Chinese handkerchiefs that used to be available—the ones with such delicate embroidery.

When I was a child, I had this embroidery box, an embroidery hoop, and various little doilies. Some of the embroidered pieces or works in progress still exist.

I still remember exactly how to crochet around handkerchiefs. My great-grandmother used to do that. One example still exists—see the picture of the open handkerchief.
Later on, I tried it myself—see
the picture of the handkerchiefs at the top. These days, it’s hard to do that with such thin needles. These handkerchiefs were far too pretty to actually use.
Does anyone else remember this, or have you ever tried it?

Thank you, Ina. Yes, there’s a No. 3 and a No. 4 as well. I already have a frameless picture frame that both pictures fit into, but in landscape format my frame doesn’t fit in the spot where I first thought it would. I’m still thinking about it. Maybe I’ll just hang one up first; that would fit there. We’ll see.

Right now, I’m also on a “yarn diet.” Since I usually plan smaller projects and can crochet, my yarn stash will last for a while longer. It’s also enough for a few large projects where I don’t need stuffing. My stash is only slowly dwindling. I’ve decided to stick to crocheting things from my existing yarn stash for now.

Picture No. 2 is finally finished. This time, I took my time.

I’m in the same boat as ruthk. I have the bottom 6 fabric boxes on our wall unit shelf filled with sorted wool and yarn.
I don’t have shelves as nice as those, though.

That all sounds pretty funny with your four-legged friends. Yeah, you definitely experience quite a bit with them.
Unfortunately, we don’t have any pets—they’re not allowed in this apartment. I used to have a few animals (a hamster, a budgie, fish, a turtle). My budgie was always pecking holes in the pages of my books.
You can watch cats for hours on end.

I’m still sticking to my yarn diet. I’m using up leftover yarn to make a colorful blanket or something like that—granny squares…
but I get the impression it’s not actually getting any smaller. So my current yarn stash will last for a while yet.

I’ve never even heard of a darning egg. I still have one of those darning mushrooms from my mom. I’ve had it for over 40 years, but I hardly ever use it anymore. It’s more of a keepsake. Here’s the trusty old thing.

Health-wise, I’m okay; work-wise, not so much. 2020 has been a real challenge.
I’ve been on short-time work since March and am expected to remain on it until the end of August. No guests at the hotel. The hotel is open again, but there’s still nothing for us to do.
I had to wait a long time for my money from NAV (Norwegian Social Security Administration)—they had so many recalculations to do. I applied for an advance, which arrived within three days, but I had to pay it back because I’d received my benefits.
We also had to cancel our vacation to Germany (flight, ferry, lodging). We did get some of the costs reimbursed. We wanted to go to Hamburg in August to see the Tina Turner musical, but everything’s up in the air. We’re a non-EU country, and Norway still has its borders closed, so we’re still not allowed to fly or travel there. We’d have to pass through three countries anyway.
But shopping here is no problem—no mask required. There are bottles of hand sanitizer at the entrance, and people keep their distance. It’s not as crazy here as it is in Germany. That’s the only good thing. Sports and outdoor exercise are all allowed. Travel within the country is allowed, too. But I really miss traveling to my beloved homeland.
I can only keep in touch with my parents or see them via Skype or WhatsApp. Hugs will have to wait. It’s really not easy.

The flamingo made from sponge yarn looks great. I haven’t tried working with that yarn yet either.
Fun-Design, the colors of your yarn cake are gorgeous. I especially like this kind of color combination; unfortunately, we don’t have such nice ones here.
I’m still working on using up my leftover yarn (a colorful striped blanket, trying out Petra-Perle’s granny squares...). I don’t have any pictures right now.
